Can you get a tent with 3 bedrooms ?

If so can anyone link some decent ones ?
We've got 4 kids now and finding going abroad so much more money so I was thinking maybe we could get a good tent and try camping. All the tents I'm seeing though only have two bedrooms, there is a big age gap between the older kids and the little ones so ideally we'd need 3 bedrooms

Yes of course you can. We have a 8 man for the 5 of us, that has three bedrooms. You need to buy one that says it sleeps a couple more people than will actually be in it if you're using it we found.

We have this one. Very easy to put up but weighs a metric ton so it's a two man job to lug it into a boot. The back can be divided into two rooms and the front in theory takes two but we've only ever used it for storage or for one. It is a chillier room for some reason.

I'd give it to you but DH still harbours romantic camping notions. We've used it three times in 8 years. I am not a fan of camping.

With small kids. Bring crocs, a portaloo and your patience. They do like to play with the zips and take endless trips to the loo.

I’d checkout the cost of pitches on a few sites OP just to make sure it’s a cheaper option for you.

we caravan and I can’t get over how much camping costs now. It’s no longer a cheap holiday imo. Our favourite site in Cornwall for early July was £49 a night this year, we didn’t go. that was just two adults and a hound.

I'd go for a face to face tent, something like the Kampa Watergate (there are other brands that do something similar). Probably the eight person version for storage, but you might be fine with the six, especially if you also get the porch. They are a compact shape and easy to put up. Don't get anything too big as they are heavy.

AnathemaPulsifer · 06/08/2024 17:57

A six berth tent is only really big enough for a family of four. Each ‘berth’ is about 60cm wide - that’s enough for a sleeping mat but not for a comfy airbed per person.

Meanwhile33 · 06/08/2024 18:37

If you can find another family to go with for your first trip that can be really helpful, then you won’t need to buy absolutely everything. Something for each person to sleep on and something to sit on, and something to cook on is enough to get you started.

Take a paddling pool for little one. Use as a play pen and also in the shower as a bath.

You could pitch two smaller tents near to eat other and put a porch or tarp or gazebo in between them (just mind the edges don’t act as a streaming gutter over the tent roof in the event of rain!) as another option

That's what we did. Worked really well. Made sure the tarp was well overlapping, which made it feel safer so nobody could easily sneak in.

We have an Outwell Vermont. It’s massive and I love it.

I've got a tent with 3 bedrooms. I can't remember what it is though

Is it a tent?

OpizpuHeuvHiyo · 06/08/2024 19:49

We have a 3 bedroom tent. I don't believe the exact model is still sold but there are many similar models - usually you have a big central dome and rooms on 3 sides with a porch on the 4th. I would go for a 9-berth tent rather than a 6 berth - a room that's officially big enough for 2 is really big enough for only 1.5 people. A three berth lobe is properly big enough for 2.

mymumwouldntapprove · 06/08/2024 19:53

I would recommend going to your local Go Outdoors and looking at tents - both the ready-erected ones and the bagged up ones, to check out size and layout of the tent but also the size and weight of the bag.

mymumwouldntapprove · 06/08/2024 19:55

Also the type of tent with a central living room and little bedrooms radiating off it are much harder to find than they used to be. Large tents for 6 or more people tend to be huge tunnels now.

cakeorwine · 06/08/2024 20:06

We got ours in France. It has 3 bedrooms and a central area. A bit much for 2 people though!!

Highly recommend vango, I have a different model but it's excellent

Shatteredandconfused · 06/08/2024 20:23

My daughter was six months old on her first trip and that was the easiest tbh as she hadn’t learnt to crawl! The following year was fun but tiring as I was spending lots of time following her toddling around and sleep was interesting!
We went with friends generally which meant we got some much needed socializing once they’d gone to sleep but just be aware that it’s not relaxing but then what affordable holiday with small people is!
The big octopus like pod tents take more space than a big rectangular shaped one in my opinion and don’t go too cheap as if the tent leaks and falls down you’ll put yourself off for life.

ShamefulShona · 06/08/2024 20:26

I have a vango 600xl tunnel tent. It has 2 bedrooms. Then I have a separate vango bedroom that goes into the huge living area. It's completely freestanding. I like this arrangement because it gives more flexibility. Tunnel tents are very easy to pitch.

MincemeatMaestro · 06/08/2024 20:35

Another Vango recommendation here! We have an older version of this one: https://www.winfieldsoutdoors.co.uk/vango-anantara-iv-650xl-air-tent/?source=aw&awc=6953_1722972468_d47ae2b08bb57d8916d6b9eacc5280c0&utm_source=awin&utm_medium=affiliates&utm_campaign=SHOPIA+%5BINVOKE+AB%5D
It's an air tent, so super quick to put up, has a really big living area, and the porch is great for drying things or shade depending on the weather! We've 3 kids so the 3 bedroom set up works well and there's an optional bedroom add-on that goes in the living area. We've found a few campsites where the width was really tight for the pitch but we've always managed to get it up. It weighs over 50kg and takes up a good chunk of our boot but we're a lot more likely to go camping if we're comfortable when we get there!

Talipesmum · 06/08/2024 20:48

Would really echo the suggestion to go and look in a few tents. Have a search - there are often places with a few up to look in - garden centre type places? It really helps to imagine the space and often at this time of year there are good deals from the camping showrooms - or if nothing there is right, at least you get a better idea of what size you might need. We have a large 6 man tunnel tent with two “3 man” rooms at the end and really I would not want to fit 6 people in it. I’d be looking at 8 man if you’ve got 6 people including two little ones. Especially if you have a van!

We took a travel cot when we went with babies. Keeps them penned when you’re putting the tent up too!

We have camped when my DD was a toddler and when youngest DD was a baby, we opened up the divide between the bedrooms so that we could have the travel cot alongside our camp beds. Most larger tents now have ample head room, my DH is 6ft and doesn't have an problems. We have an air beam which makes set up much easier, but they are huge and take up boot space. We also get vacuum pack bags for bedding to save space. If you have a Go Outdoors near you they usually have tents up that you can look at.

locket2009 · 06/08/2024 21:01

We have this tent and absolutely love it

www.gooutdoors.co.uk/15980941/hi-gear-zenobia-8-nightfall-tent-15980941

The partitions in between each two man bedroom can be taken out if you'd rather have bigger bedrooms with up to four people in

EwwSprouts · 06/08/2024 21:03

We have a 3 bedroom tent bought from Asda a couple of years ago. DH & DS are both over 6 ft tall so need space to stretch. It's very easy to put up. DS recently took it away with friends for a sports event and they managed fine.
