Can you get a tent with 3 bedrooms ?

If so can anyone link some decent ones ?
We've got 4 kids now and finding going abroad so much more money so I was thinking maybe we could get a good tent and try camping. All the tents I'm seeing though only have two bedrooms, there is a big age gap between the older kids and the little ones so ideally we'd need 3 bedrooms

This looks good, does it have a separate porch to living area ? I really think a porch would be handy for shoes etc
How is it standing up in the living area ? I'm only 5.4 but dh is over 6ft

We've got a Vango Stargrove, highly recommend, great value for money. Dividers between bedrooms don't totally shut them off though

Yes it does. It's really spacious inside with a big living area and separate porch area (the separate sleeping pod is in the living area but there's still loads of space). My husband is 6 ft and can stand up straight with plenty of room still.

Many sites specify. But some don't. I'd try those that don't. We have a small 2 man tent that we put up behind our caravan, we call it the garage. We put bits in there. But ds's are now older and could go in there. Our site, we have seen others do this, ie put 2 x teens in a small two man tent, to the back of or behind or by the side of their main tent, and the owner doesn't mind.

All great everyone thank you. Any experience of camping with a toddler and a 1 year old ???

When mine were that young we had an inflatable bed that looked a bit like a flat dingy. That stopped them rolling off a sleeping mat and they were further away from the ground too. Take big toys that don’t have lots of bits/parts and also a small dustpan and brush to sweep up the sand and dirt they inevitably bring in even with a no shoes approach!

Our Royal 8 man tent has lasted for over a decade and withstood all manner of weather, here and abroad. We camped with our two sons from when they were little to strapping teenagers.

This tent has 4 bedrooms, but you can open it up into 2 large bedrooms if you prefer. Plus a large middle living area which you can stand in. A bargain at £400. We also bought the footpr8nt ground sheet, the carpet, and the extension porch to put all the wellies and cooking equipment in.

Have a look at trailer tents...

We have a inflatable pole tent (soooo much easier than poles) with 4 blackout sleep pods one of which is optional, we have 5 kids with 12 year gap from oldest to youngest. We've never struggled to pitch it anywhere. Ours is a Coleman Weathermaster 8XL which is great but MASSIVE when packed up, we always end up taking 2 cars when we go camping so we can fit it all in https://www.outdoorworlddirect.co.uk/coleman-weathermaster-8xl-tent.html

I would absolutely get an 8 person tent, our friends with 2 kids have 6 person ones and they would be VERY cosy with lots of kids especially if it rains and you all need to be indoors.

I'd be worried about the baby rolling into the side though. Was this an issue?

The sites I've stayed on wouldn't let you have 2 tents on the same pitch, so I'd look at one big tent. Bell tents can also have bedroom inserts added inside if that's of use. For me, I'd go for as a few bedrooms as possible because everyone will be warmer if sleeping alongside someone else. Somoene in a tent bedroom by themselves is going to be colder than with another person unless it's high temperature outside.

I really like the Vango and the Hi gear tents linked. They look pretty similar so I think it'll be a choice out of those two

We upgraded to one like this a few years back. Its a tunnel tent with 3 bedrooms one end. I love it, you can stand up straight in the living area, cook in the porch and we got the air beam one so it goes up quickly.

everything seems to be getting big tents now, it doesn't look out of place. The main concern may be that it is huge when packed down and would fill a small car boot. We have a van to fit all the camping stuff! You could get a roof box, or the ones with poles are smaller than the airbeams when packed.

So when you're looking on campsites it says about pitch size, does that mean just the tent ? I'm confused what you're meant to include is it also space around the tent ?

Usually they will give the maximum tent size. Our tent is 8mx3m but I’ve never found a campsite where its too big

Here are 3 of my favourite campsites where we have taken our huge tent and seen even bigger ones! www.jennyburrows.co.uk/3-best-campsites-for-kids-in-the-uk/

Rainbowshine · 06/08/2024 15:01

Hi - replying to your question about baby and inflatable bed, no issues with them rolling to the side, and ours were wrigglers! The flat area is huge and the sides were round so it would be hard for them to have their face flat against them if you’re worried about that.

Roguebludger · 06/08/2024 15:06

We have a 3 bed tent but I wouldn't recommend it, outdoor revolution. If I were buying again I would go for a proper blackout one because my kids are up stupidly early! Most 3 bedroom tents you will need a pitch 90m2 campsites should have this detail on their website. Have been camping with mine since the youngest was 2 and it's been brilliant. Couldn't have afforded the holidays if it hadn't been for the tent! I would definitely check out second hand sites though as there are so many who buy all the kit then decide they don't like it and sell it off nearly new! Also decathlon do ex displays as well.

We had a lovely Outwell tent with three sleeping pods. The kids had one each, the third was used for storage and then OH and I slept in the main section because we just felt a bit claustrophobic in a pod- it’s nice to have lots of space above you. Then during the day we just shoved our mattress and bedding in the storage pod. We also had quite a big porch on the tent so that’s where the kitchen stuff was stored.
