What household chores do you actually enjoy doing?

I love doing laundry. I really love it.
It lifts my spirit when washing comes out of the machine smelling lovely and looking clean.
I love bimbling around the garden pegging up the clean clothes.
I could sit and watch washing flap around on the line for hours.
I love bringing clean washing in, folding it and putting it away neatly.
I love trying out new laundry products.
I love reading about laundry hacks.
I love putting a whole outfit of fresh and clean clothes on.
There is nothing better in the world than getting into freshly laundered bed linen.

DP thinks I'm completely insane.

What about you, what household chores do you love to do?

I don't really enjoy any household chores. I think I had to do so many as a child and it just gave me a hatred of housework. I do the bare minimum to stop us living in squalor! DH pulls his weight so between us we manage to keep things ticking over.

But...I absolutely LOVE hanging laundry outside on the line! I get disproportionately happy about it and get quite excited if I've managed to get through several loads of laundry a day by drying it on the line 😊

And occasionally I get into a bit of cleaning mindset and absolutely blitz things and enjoy the outcome of that, because things are super clean. But on the whole, I'd happily never spend a moment of my life doing household chores.

SprinkleOfSunak · 06/08/2024 16:34

I absolutely detest all of it, especially because the jobs are never done. Washing up for example is constant, and there seem to be hairs and crumbs on my floor straight after cleaning them. I find it all repetitive and mind numbing, and pray every single day that I’ll win the lottery and be able to afford a cleaner and a housekeeper.

RightOnTheEdge · 06/08/2024 16:41

Honestly, none of them.

Arraminta · 06/08/2024 16:44

We have a cleaner so I do very little in the way of household chores but I do love getting the house ready for a cosy evening in. I love closing the curtains against the darkness outside, switching on lamps, plumping cushions, folding throws and lighting a candle on the coffee table.

Bringitonnowibeg · 06/08/2024 16:45

I love watching the washing go round and round in the machine. I love watching it blow in the wind, it's like therapy for me. I detest ironing but don't mind any cleaning as long as nobody under my feet, I have to control my mood when that changes 🤣

I hate all general chores like washing/cooking/cleaning.
What I do love is fixing things, DIY, painting/decorating, gardening. It's hard work, but for me brings an enormous amount of satisfaction. I wouldn't pay anyone to do those things (unless I absolutely had to) as it takes my "fun" away!

Ooh I agree with you. I've always done our decorating and love it. I also enjoy gardening too and the sense of satisfaction when I see a lovely tidy garden bursting with flowers.

IBegYourBiggestPardon · 06/08/2024 17:18

Err non!

OlympicsFanGirl · 06/08/2024 17:18

I quite enjoy ironing and cooking.

The rest I loathe and leave to DH to do.

MammaTo · 06/08/2024 18:18

I enjoy cleaning the bathroom. I love the smell of the bleach, I like cleaning the shower glass so it’s all shiny.

Starseeking · 06/08/2024 20:44

When I have time, I love ironing. Not the washing or drying of clothes, just the ironing.

I find ironing very calming and almost therapeutic, and you have lovely smart looking clothes at the end of it!

XenoBitch · 06/08/2024 20:51

Hoovering, because by the time I get round to doing it, it really looks different after. And I like the sound of all the bit being sucked up.

Greengagesummer65 · 06/08/2024 21:00

Definitely laundry. It’s my thing. Sorting it, listening to it trundling round in the drum, pegging it out, the smell of it is heavenly. I have friends like it too, we always send each other woohoo messages on the first pegging day of the year. Nuts but it works for us 😂

hby9628 · 06/08/2024 21:18

Cleaning the bathroom. Sounds odd but I love it when it's all shiny. Doesn't last long though.

Theoldwoman · 07/08/2024 02:15

Laundry, definitely. It’s therapeutic putting in dirty stuff and pulling it out clean. Hanging it all out on the clothes line all year round is wonderful. I especially love washing sheets and towels.

Tumbleweed101 · 07/08/2024 06:47

I like house work being finished and the way the house looks then. I’m not someone who enjoys the process but then I’ve been a single mum to four so things have never stayed nice for long and it feels an endless cycle.

I do enjoy a big sort out and decluttered though.

mellongoose · 07/08/2024 07:11

I don't mind laundry 🧺 I suppose, but there just seems to be so much of it.

I cannot abide sorting socks. We have mountains of clean odd socks.

Thegreatgiginthesky · 07/08/2024 07:17

Not sure it this counts as housework but I love pressure washing the patio. It is very satisfying seeing all the dirt disappear. The best jobs are where you get a big transformation for limited effort.

IMustDoMoreExercise · 07/08/2024 07:20

I don't like any chores as I would much rather be doing something else.

upinaballoon · 07/08/2024 07:27

I like the smell of the clean things as I take them off the line. I like a small amount of ironing. I like putting the towels and sheets tidily in the airing cupboard.
I like washing pots - not too many. I like the hot water and properly washing around the tops of cups and mugs. I like the dried, shiny pots.

I like most housework. I don't get around to it all very often, but that's a different issue.

Willmafrockfit · 07/08/2024 07:28

hanging the washing on the line
mowing the lawn
cooking

Kittensat36 · 07/08/2024 07:41

I'm a hooverer as well. As someone mentioned, seeing the floor crumb and fluff free is quite satisfying. And you çan see the results immediately, most other chores seem to create more mess (where am I putting all this scunge? Or "oh goody, yet MORE effing washing up.")

Does anyone else feel an overwhelming desire to go to sleep when doing house work? I can fight it off temporarily by watching a Remix Clog video, but getting a whole room done is nigh on unachievable. In fact, I do sometimes do housework at omigod o'clock because I couldn't stay awake long enough earlier in the day and now can't sleep.

marthasmum · 07/08/2024 07:52

I’m another laundry fan. It feels like a bargain as the machine does the work for you! I often think of our grandmothers washing nappies etc by hand.

I also love doing the food shop. I always spend too much and it would be better for DP to do it as he’s more frugal, but I resist him taking the job! I feel like I’m providing for the family and I literally get excited every week at the thought of going. I do wonder if this is a bit odd but I also feel glad that I enjoy it as it’s such a never ending job!
