What household chores do you actually enjoy doing?

I love doing laundry. I really love it.
It lifts my spirit when washing comes out of the machine smelling lovely and looking clean.
I love bimbling around the garden pegging up the clean clothes.
I could sit and watch washing flap around on the line for hours.
I love bringing clean washing in, folding it and putting it away neatly.
I love trying out new laundry products.
I love reading about laundry hacks.
I love putting a whole outfit of fresh and clean clothes on.
There is nothing better in the world than getting into freshly laundered bed linen.

DP thinks I'm completely insane.

What about you, what household chores do you love to do?

I like proper cooking, rather than just chucking something in the air fryer.

I like doing laundry too. I even enjoy hearing the sound of the washing machine being on Blush

I don’t like mopping the floors, but love when they are mopped and still wet

I love the sound of the washing machine being on. Its hard to articulate but it makes me feel like I'm doing well at being an adult.

I find it very satisfying to sit down and do the ironing, with the TV on or watching a DVD. I agree with the OP about how lovely it is to get into a bed with freshly washed and ironed bed linen

I find hoovering quite satisfying too, and looking at my kitchen cupboards when they've been tidied up.

Deliberationdivinationdesperation · 06/08/2024 14:31

Genuinely none. I'm terrible at even remembering to do half the housework and my husband has to remind me/he does a lot of it

Baital · 06/08/2024 14:35

De-icing the freezer.

So satisfying when it comes off in chunks!

HAF1119 · 06/08/2024 14:41

I like cupboards. Have to have some time but emptying, wiping, and putting things away neatly I find strangely satisfying.. and I quite like making sure all the labels are facing the front. It doesn't last long but it feels nice for a moment 😂

mitogoshi · 06/08/2024 14:43

Weird people... honestly none! I do jobs because I have to, don't enjoy any. I do like cooking for specific occasions but the daily chore of it isn't enjoyable

TonyeKnausgaard · 06/08/2024 14:46

Laundry for me too. If all household chores were laundry, I'd have the most spotlessly clean house ever.

Second would be cleaning the bathroom, but that's way below laundry. Bathroom is satisfying, laundry is actively enjoyable.

Meadowwild · 06/08/2024 14:48

I only like the folding clothes part of laundry, though pegging stuff outside on a sunny day is quite enjoyable too. But I love turning dry laundry into neat little rectangles.

I like mopping floors. The sweet, fresh scent of the detergent and the way the wood seems to glow slightly afterwards.

I LOVE oiling garden furniture. Best job of the year is going out on a warm spring day with a brush and teak oil and doing all the chairs, table and garden swing.

I enjoy chopping veg, especially with great music playing in the background or if someone is perched with a glass of wine, chatting to me but not offering to help. I hate delegating.

Meadowwild · 06/08/2024 14:49

The once a season deep clean of the bathroom is fun too. I like scrubbing between the tiles with a toothbrush and bleach, watching the grouting turn white again. Or de-limescaling the shower and taps so they shine like new.

Cuppateatea · 06/08/2024 14:55

Oh Lord no. I hate housework, never brings me any joy at all. I like coming home to find DH has done all the laundry and cleaned the floors. That makes me happy! 😀

SwordToFlamethrower · 06/08/2024 14:56

Zero. Absolutely loathe cleaning and tidying. House is messy. I will clean the bathrooms and floors because it is important.

SwordToFlamethrower · 06/08/2024 14:58

spikeandbuffy · 06/08/2024 11:50

Finishing them all and lighting a candle Grin

Chores finishing? Is that a thing?

spikeandbuffy · 06/08/2024 14:59

@SwordToFlamethrower no DC so it's only my mess! Still seems never ending but once it's done for the day I love that feeling

invisiblecat · 06/08/2024 14:59

I like watering the houseplants, and I like putting up the Christmas tree.

I don't like the rest of it.

I was proud of my flat when I lived alone. I kept it just how I liked it.

Living with other people is hell on earth and I begrudge cleaning up after other people.

Circlesinthesand · 06/08/2024 15:00

None. Absolutely loathe household chores. Also loathe a messy house so just spend my time being resentful at how much time chores take up! I am actually a really good cleaner but I'd just rather not. Laundry is the worst! Well a close second to the dishes.

DancingLions · 06/08/2024 15:05

I hate all general chores like washing/cooking/cleaning.
What I do love is fixing things, DIY, painting/decorating, gardening. It's hard work, but for me brings an enormous amount of satisfaction. I wouldn't pay anyone to do those things (unless I absolutely had to) as it takes my "fun" away!

Timeturnerplease · 06/08/2024 15:08

I love pegging washing out in the sunshine with the birds tweeting in the trees and a breeze gently blowing. However, I hate putting washing away with a fiery passion. Also love vacuuming.

The absolute worst household job has to be cleaning skirting boards. It’s really noticeable when they’re dirty, yet they blend into the background when clean. Feels pointless.

yetanotherusername9183837 · 06/08/2024 15:10

I do like pegging stuff on the line as air-drying washing is free and feels healthier and better in every way.

The rest is a complete pain in the arse.

TroysMammy · 06/08/2024 15:11

I hate anything that involves cleaning, dusting, squirting stuff onto something and rubbing it in, hoovering, buffing, shining, bleaching, ironing, mopping, scrubbing. I love the idea of cleaning, I have many gadgets and cloths for this and that but would rather do something else like crafting or gardening. I do like cooking because there is an enjoyable end product. I see nothing enjoyable in a hoovered floor.

PruneInTheNest · 06/08/2024 15:49

I enjoy batch cooking healthy family meals with lots of (usually hidden) veg in. The feeling of satisfaction having meals in the freezer for another time. It’s like a gift to future stressed me 😂 and makes me feel like an organised mum lol

hate washing dishes with a passion, like all of doing laundry apart from putting it all away

Oh yes, I love batch cooking too.

One Saturday every 4-6 weeks or so, me and DP will spend the afternoon in the kitchen cooking a recipe each. It's really nice quality time together and the satisfaction of batching up and then freezing boxes and boxes ready-prepared meals is just wonderful. The washing up is less pleasant but we always play "Who Am I?" while we do it which makes it go quicker.

I always hated ironing it was a pain setting up the board etc.
Then we had work men in for a few weeks.
I set up the board in the spare room by the window.
There is a radio in that room and now I get on with it listening to music.
Down stairs something or someone was in the way.

circular1985 · 06/08/2024 16:02

None apart from cooking a nice meal at a slow pace with a glass of wine at the weekend.
