Has anyone had a whirlwind wedding?

I'm reading a book about a couple who get married after a few days of knowing each other (though they were teenage sweethearts 15 years before). I was wondering has anyone done anything similar? How did it turn out? Are you still together?

Met and married within 8 months. Still together almost 15 years later. Was more sure about DH than pervious partners after living with them for years.

My parents met after my mother was hauled up by my father after missing a ferry in Fiji. They had a week together and decided that they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together. To make this possible my mother had to resign her job and potentially change nationalities.
My father disappeared for 6 weeks on a pension trek in Nepal, limited written correspondence only, and they had a further 5 days together in Hong Kong before getting married.

They celebrate their Golden Wedding next year.

I got married 8 months from meeting him. Our son just turned 18. Still happy. When you know, you know.

Name changed incase someone recognises me.
DH and I dated for a year before I went to uni 300 miles away, we split up in my first term.
About 10 years later we bumped into each other. We dated for 6 months and got engaged, we married 6 months after that.
This was 22 years ago and we are still married. But that was positively glacial in pace compared to my godmother's parents who met in the war he was in the navy. They had 5 dates and then got engaged and were married on his next shore leave. They were married for 75 years before he passed away in his mid 90s.

First met now DH when i was 24 but only went out for 9 months - didnt seem to be going anywhere so i went off abroad for 2 years to work. Got together when i returned but only lasted 3 months. Lost touch - i went abroad again for a year - came back and he contacted me again - asked me out - got married a year later and now been married 34 years.

BIL met his future wife in November (lived in different countries), moved his fiancée out in Feb, installed her replacement in March, and married her in December. Baby born April.

Married within 6 months. Still together 20 years later.

MrsSpencerCharnas · 05/08/2024 21:31

Got engaged after 3 weeks. Didn't really do anything about it, but when we finally did decide to get married (after about 18 months) went to the registry office to get it booked. Got married just over 2 weeks later. So while we were together just a little over 18 months at our wedding day, we had nothing planned (no dates, no venue, nothing) less than 3 weeks before. Its our 20th anniversary this year.

My parents met in October, got engaged 6 weeks later then married in the August after only knowing each other 10 months. Its their 49th wedding anniversary this year

CharlotteStreetW1 · 05/08/2024 21:38

Engaged within a month, married six months later. Silver wedding next month 🥂

PerkyMintDeer · 05/08/2024 21:38

Not sure if this counts...

My cousin and their spouse met at an event, went on a date later that week and within a week knew that they were meant to be. They really wanted to marry after 6 weeks but both were in a sort of caring role for their mums (on father was dead and the other an addict) and knew they'd take them moving out of the family home hard and felt they would need time to adjust. They "officially" announced their engagement at the 6 month mark and married within the year.

They've been together 40 years now and are the happiest and most in love couple I've ever known. Still like newlyweds at 60.

Met DH in August, dating by October, engaged December. Bought a house together the following April. Married the next year.
Together 34 years.

HoppityBun · 05/08/2024 21:39

My parents got engaged within 3 days of meeting. I don’t know how long before they got married

GoogleWhacking · 05/08/2024 21:42

Met and married my ex within 9 months. Should never have done it!

Cornishmumofone · 05/08/2024 21:51

I moved into a shared house with DH and started going out with him a day later. We discussed getting married that week, but I was only 20, so we thought we should wait. We got married 4 years later and have now been a couple for 26 years. We're still very happy.

TheDogsMother · 05/08/2024 21:56

First time round and we met and married within six months. It lasted 15 years but fizzled in the end. Me and now DH were together for 13 years before we married four years ago. One end of the scale to the other 🤣

Berlinlover · 05/08/2024 21:57

Correct me if I’m wrong but I live in Ireland and these stories would be unheard of here.
