Why are majority of the riots in northern towns?

DH & I were watching the riots on the news this morning like most people absolutely horrified.

He's from one of the northern towns affected although we live in the south and started discussing why these riots now (and historically) tend to be more focused on northern towns but didn't really come up with any one thing. Any thoughts on this?

At the protest I saw, black and brown people were part of the protest.

Of course he will. Because anyone who has genuine concerns about illegal immigration are already branded racist.

People lump illegal and legal immigration into the one pot so it makes sense to lump everyone who disagrees with illegal immigration into the same pot as racists.

I don’t know whose arse you’ve plucked that out of. Bitter towards who? I was merely pointing out that when we were EU members, we had agreements with France to police attempts to cross the channel. Now they have no duty to us to do that. If I had my way, they’d be allowed to come here safely by train/ferry/plane.

But to be fair, there was also protests in London yesterday too.

There is no protest in Rotherham? This has been streamed live on you tube and is scores of white men, setting fire to grass verges, raiding the immigrant hotel, breaking fences and throwing them at the riot police.

All big brave white men, with their faces covered up.

Also a couple of really brave big white men kicking female police officer to the floor.

There are however groups of Asian man now retaliating in other areas.

I got laughed at on here under my old user name last year when I said that before the of the year there will be racial based riots and everyone said the UK was better than that.

And here we go. Asian men now turning up, and the riots are going to turn into mass brawls and potentially get totally out of hand, as police are now going to be trying to deal with two opposing factions.

They are still funded by us to prevent the crossings. That hasn’t changed.

Whenever a lot of people are doing something that a lot of other people find abhorrent, the causes are likely to be environmental and not down to individual characteristics. There's no point labelling them all as ignorant right wing thugs. They are just normal people like everyone else. As seen in nazi Germany, if conditions are right, the majority will go with the prevailing political mood. Hopefully labour will tackle the root causes of the behaviour before it becomes more socially acceptable. If they don't, there's a real risk of far right parties getting in at the next election and obviously that won't benefit anyone, least of all the people that are rioting.

Has there been any interviews with the Community Leaders giving the reasons behind the riots , like there was after the Leeds Harehills riots?

There are now large groups of (white men) started to get in and attempting the immigrant hotel near the Snowdome in Tamworth.

All chanting "get them out get them out"

There's an immigrant hotel at the back of my road, I expect they will work there way there too, we've already had two police vans park up on our road.

Of course I don’t agree with it. Both governments should absolutely have a duty of care! Unfortunately I don’t believe that either government give a shiny shite about people fleeing war-torn countries. That doesn’t mean I fucking agree with them.

There was a community meeting in my town as they shut down a hotel and turned it into an immigrant hotel. They had council leaders meeting with residents which was open to all. They laid out the plans, the reassurances, attempted to alleviate concerns and the hotel residents keep themselves to their selves and there's been no trouble or increased crime.

However In the last half hour, there's been fires started, windows put through and a group of 50 men and boys getting into the immigrant hotel in Tamworth and we've now got Police vans on our road as we have an immigrant hotel at the back of us so I'm expecting it to spread here tonight.

Well how can you know? You aren't a disenfranchised white man. You're a politically aware, probably reasonably educated, woman. Your upbringing and experience and social.circumstance is entirely different so you simply don't know how you would feel or behave.

We have to stop seeing these people are somehow different to everyone else and start seeing them as products of their environment.

Not sure where you are but there are plenty of all trades, im yet to here a site stopped due to a plummer shortage!. Infact due to the rise in material costs we still aren't out of the massive pause on construction.

Stay safe. Must be an awful scarey situation to be in. I live in a predominantly Asian area, and hope there is no fallout in my area on the back of all this kicking off. Frightening times.

The main cause of the large numbers of immigrants held in hotels is the lack of staff available to process the claims and either deport or settle people here depending on the legitimacy of their claim. People are waiting years in limbo which is totally unnecessary, terrible for them and costing tax payers a fortune. Can only assume it benefitted the Tory government in some way to have this situation - stoking up fears of immigrants is what the right of the party wants. This should be an urgent priority of this government - to make a decision about all these asylum seekers so that they either leave the country or are free to find jobs and housing and disperse .

Actually I was thinking more about has there been any interviews with Community Leaders from the actual protests rather than from council leaders.
