Bigly Thanks to BruceAndNosh for the thread title.

Hopefully people can open this link OK.

I think he is doing this deliberately to fire up his violent supporters if he should lose.
Yep.

Indeed. I know I'm holding on to things, but I still haven't recovered from Trump's behaviour over the Charlottesville rally in 2017. It set the tone for his disgusting lack of ethics or a moral compass, which continues still.

TheABC · 05/09/2024 10:46

Interesting piece here from Heather Cox Richardson on the latest state of affairs in the Presidential campaign. Harris has come up with economic proposals aimed at small business owners that even Fox News has begrudgingly said are good(!).

Trump is focused on tax cuts and he continues to dig into the doom-laden language that characterises his campaign. Coincidentally, they also align with the talking points of Russian operatives who are being indicted for election interference. His latest interview shows he still has a fixation on Biden, which indicates (at best) rigid thinking.

So the debate is looming. Next Tuesday 9pm ET (2am UK time 😴) Rules have now all been agreed.

Details here:
Trump and Harris’s first presidential debate is Tuesday. Here’s what to know.

I can't decide if I agree with Harris's campaign that muted mics are a disadvantage to her or not. Trump is so rigid in his thinking, as PP said, that even in this 'controlled' situation he may be unable to give it up and will start going off on one about Hannibal Lecter, stolen elections and Biden again.

It could end up being uneventful and an anti climax after all the hype. Trump may be medicated enough to 'behave' and stay on his script but if Kamala is able to attract new voters from this it will be a good result.

The Walz/Vance debate on October 1st may end up being the one to create headlines!

Walz /Vance will be interesting. Vance is actually a very intelligent man who unfortunately a) has used his intellect in some weird directions and b)is a charisma free zone. He is painfully awkward talking to groups but I wonder whether he might be better one on one if he can mentally block out everyone but Walz

Depending on the social and cultural setting, clever children learn very quickly how not to appear clever. It's one of the perennial challenges of teaching (so I am told).

I do wonder if - like having to feign madness - it sometimes ends a little too well.

Certainly in the UK there are large chunks of society where if you dare to spell correctly - or even write - you'll be spending your years in secondary school getting a free hairwash every so often. as was in my day

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 05/09/2024 21:07

A free hairwash? @SerendipityJane (As a child of the Sixties and Seventies, myself, I have no idea what you're talking about.)

BestIsWest · 05/09/2024 22:04

Bullying in the school toilets I’m guessing.

Igotjelly · 06/09/2024 09:04

The Rest is Politics US seem quite pessimistic about Harris' chances in the latest episode. Pointing out that her lack of willingness to do on the spot interviews is starting to hurt her and that they haven't seen the changes in the polls that they had hoped for after her initial introduction to the campaign and the DNC. They also suggest that Trump hasn't seen the drop off in support that they might have expected given his recent ramblings.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 06/09/2024 09:04

Oh, right, @BestIsWest, I did wonder, I've read about that kind of thing but have clearly led a sheltered life.

I am incandescent about Vance's comments about yesterday's school shooting. Particularly as he has himself been speaking from behind bullet-proof glass at rallies. Tone-deaf dolt.

I do hope they're wrong. I hope people are kind of playing down the potential success of the Kamala/Walz ticket in order to get waverers to think again and go out and vote for them to get rid of the possibility of a Trump/MAGA dictatorship once and for all. To my mind, that is the only way of saving democracy in the USA. Sounds dramatic, I know, but I dread to think of what would happen should Trump and Vance win in November.

Agree 100% you aren't being overdramatic.

Spandauer · 06/09/2024 09:40

Oh that's interesting as the Washington Post today has her pulling ahead - especially in PA and WIS and basically tied in all but GA.
I do often feel that the pundits have to keep talking to keep themselves relevant and in work!

Harris is in as good a position as anyone could have hoped for at this point and she and Walz are working well together. MSM etc are giving them a much harder time than The Orange Idiot. Only yesterday it was pointed out that his recent utter word salad was being cleaned up by the likes of the NYTimes and reported as if he'd said something that made sense! They were basically interpreting his senile ramblings as if they were fluent in cat!

Re Trump's incoherent word salad, Twitter is suggesting that he had an ear piece and his advisors were desperately instructing him to stay on childcare via the earpiece, hence his multiple repetition of the phrase yet still doesn't answer the question Confused

TheABC · 06/09/2024 09:57

I would love to see The Man In The Other Room do a sketch on one of Trump's speeches.

I think the thing is that’s the view of lots of Americans because they can’t see it ever changing. The rest of the western world has shown that it doesn’t need to be the case.

Its unbelievably sad and Vance is an absolute cretin but he isn’t necessarily wrong unless gun reform is undertaken and I can’t see that ever happening.

BustingBaoBun · 06/09/2024 12:32

Vance thinks school shootings are "a fact of life."

That is unbelievable. And complacent. And defeatist.

In the words of Maya Angelou...

"If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude".

You see, I think that is so wrong of the media, his ramblings should be printed and broadcast uncensored, so that people can realise that if anyone is on the way to being demented, it is him. They accused Biden and now Harris of not making sense but pretend Trump makes sense? That's just ridiculous, how can that be stopped?

Interestingly this was also discussed on TRIP US today. They’ve set their stalls out and essentially acknowledged that Trump isn’t a normal candidate, in essence giving him leeway to be ‘him’ (I.e. an absolute twat who can’t string a rational thought together). Whilst I agree it’s wrong it’s how the media works and they see Harris as a normal candidate and Trump as Trump so don’t hold them to the same standards.

Like UK dog attacks, he probably isn't wrong.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 06/09/2024 15:50

It is however very wrong that either thing should be perceived in that way.

@Jaichangecentfoisdenom is that unedited? It's atrocious. I mean really, really just a stream of complete nuts.
