Not only is it nice, but it's veeerry interesting. I wasn't expecting that, I really thought Trump had SCOTUS packed and punching only for him, if you see what I mean.

I'm out and about today so may miss the VP announcement. All candidates sound up to the challenge. No doubt the Repugs will have their slush reports and dirt digging primed and ready to go once the name drops.

DH just messaged me to say VP is being reported as Gov Tim Walz (Minnesota) but apparently not officially confirmed yet.

MSNBC reporting it as 'confirmed'. No official statement as far as I can tell from the Campaign.

I know nothing about Gov Walz, he wasn't really on my radar. One good thing about choosing a Gov is that it doesn't impact the number of Dems in Congress.

Morning Joe reporting him as a 'moderate' Democrat. He's also a veteran and a former Congressman. Wiki shows him as age 60, which may appeal to voters looking at that sort of thing.

Minnesota is a MidWestern state so that's hopefully good as far as appealing to that Demographic. May also help with swing states Michigan & Wisconsin as they're all considered 'upper MidWest'.

At some point, the smart money will cotton on (maybe it already has) which way the wind is blowing. Much as here in the UK the Tories had a drop in donations and now just need a phone box for their big donor conference. Why throw good money after bad ?

The past 12 hours have been an example why. Almost saturation coverage of the VP pick, which crowded out Trump news. Which he really hates.

From this side of the pond, it seems all the MAGA strategy can now be is to reinforce that MAGA brand with MAGA voters. It certainly isn't aimed at any waverers

Not at all. In fact, it may be somewhat of a good thing. He will be a 'blank slate' upon which to write his positive qualities and accomplishments. Many people won't have a preconceived notion of who he is. So far, I'm impressed and I'm sure others are, too!

And I'm sure that people more 'local' to him (MidWest & Upper MW) will probably be more familiar with him that those of us who are further away. Just as many MidWesterners may not recognize the names of politicians closer to where I live on the West Coast. And that's a demographic that is very important in this election.

Being a gun owner in and of itself doesn't really colour my views. Being a gun owner doesn't mean you aren't in favour of strict Federal (and State) laws regarding gun ownership and sales. My DH is a gun owner and strongly favours Federal gun registration, banning assault style weapons, waiting periods, increasing the age for ownership and sales by licensed gun dealers only. And very stiff penalties for illegal possession, sales, and any crime in which a gun is involved whether it's actually used or not. Personally I'd like to see them banned, but since that's never going to happen the most we can hope for is that responsible gun owners are in place to propose tight legislation.

The more I'm seeing about Tim Walz, including reactions from all parties, the more I'm beginning to think this was an inspired choice by Kamala Harris.

Trump gave her a lot of breathing space and she has used it wisely.

Augurs well for polling.

Meanwhile looks like Trump managed to lose Georgia. Way to go, buddy.

I'm hypocritical enough to admit in this instance Walz having a military background and a knowledge of guns is a very good thing.
His appeal will be stronger for it!
