In 2020 Reginald D. Hunter posted that for the first time in nearly 70 years his father had problems voting (it was solved eventually) in GA

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/latino/texas-voter-purge-warning-ballots-abbott-rcna168811

This really needs to be Trumpeted loud and clear to Texas and beyond, it's disgraceful, and part of the reason Trump is sure he will be President come November. Snollygoster.

BruceAndNosh · 02/09/2024 11:51

There's definitely a lot of behind the scenes messing with the system. And if that's not enough there's the fall back position of low level state officials refusing to count votes or pass the results up the chain

SerendipityJane · 02/09/2024 12:02

Well it's in your hands. Countries that can't hold trustworthy elections don't - ever - "get better".

We are still locked into Tytlers view. Which I notice had to be cartoonized as "it be all wordy and stuff"

(If MN allowed multimedia posts, I would have the theme to "The Magic Roundabout" playing here);

Why do GOP want to ban ivf? Apart from vindictiveness dressed up as Christian beliefs?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 03/09/2024 19:05

Because it involves embryos dying. And every sperm is sacred...

Because it gives women agency.

HeddaGarbled · 03/09/2024 20:05

Because unused embryos are thrown away.

It’s not all Republicans - it’s the religious right activists.

That's my understanding too

AcrossthePond55 · 03/09/2024 23:15

The GOP wants to ban IVF because that's how they keep those particular voters. They don't really give a shit about embryos. They just don't want to alienate the religious right.

Embryos are sacred. A living person facing execution has no value. That's why they can be 'pro life' and 'pro death penalty' in the same breath.

63 more days. Despite trying to feel optimistic, I still get 'that feeling' in the pit of my stomach. Not that I don't think Harris can win, I just dread the aftermath.

Once the umbilical cord has been cut, a baby has no value with this crowd, never mind a person facing execution.

I go back and forth on optimism. I can't believe it's even close.

heldinadream · 04/09/2024 08:18

I am convinced she's going to win. I called it for Obama winning, despite friends who told me the US wasn't going to elect a black man.
Believe me, I am not usually an optimist, the very opposite. 😂
Could be wrong of course but I really think the momentum is with Kamala and will stay with her.

Let's hope this isn't one of those 'Well this hasn't aged well, has it?' posts. 🙄

Spandauer · 04/09/2024 08:49

I feel hopeful but am also extremely concerned about the aftermath.

There are so many charts and dissections on what and where Harris or Trump need to win in order to get the magic 270 electoral college votes that it's impossible to ignore the fact that he probably still has the upper hand.
www.270towin.com/

A crucial point seems to be that his support hasn't increased over the last 8 years - it's stayed almost static so it's clear he's not adding to his voter pool in any significant way, if at all. Harris, on the others hand, still has potential voters to add. All the pundits are focused on the tiny percentage of voters in the swing states that will decide the outcome which makes the whole thing feel incredibly tenuous. Hopeful and hopeless all at the same time.

I have this feeling of dread mixed with optimism. I want to see a landslide, one that Trump can't try and call a fix.

I do find it worrying that he is rallying in the 'sundown' towns, places with racist histories. I think he is doing this deliberately to fire up his violent supporters if he should lose.

Trump accused of deliberately rallying in ‘sundown’ towns with racist histories

Critics point to a ‘troubling pattern’ of campaign stops in midwestern towns that Kamala Harris’s campaign has called a racist ‘bullhorn,’ Alex Woodward reports

Yep.

Religious bollocks. It's just misogyny stapled to a cross to shut people up. Which isn't limited to Christians. Plenty of other made up religions (that is all of them, by the way) use the "God" thang to make them better than you.

You're 1000% right. They'll spend millions on promoting legislation & ads to prevent a woman from making a personal decision, but won't spend one penny to help her if she decides to carry to term because of their propaganda or laws.

I can't believe it either. All we can do is hope that there are a lot of secret Harris voters in the mix when they do the polls. I'm sure there are people who will say 'Trump' in public due to where they live or their 'social group' but it will be Harris in the privacy of the polling booth, it just don't know if there are enough of them.

We've two months to go. In spite of the fact that I want Harris/Walz to be out there campaigning hard since they've not had a long time as candidates, I just want this over!

AcrossthePond55 · 04/09/2024 15:00

Oh, I totally believe that when Trump loses there will be calls to protest riot. But I also believe that he's learnt a valuable lesson from 6 Jan. This time he'll decry the 'rigged election' but make no overt statements that might lead to violence. Instead he'll rely on certain minions within radical right organizations to sow the seeds of violence. He'll then just sit back waving his hands and making comments that can be taken either way. He's always used the 'Will no one rid me of this troublesome priest' tactic to get his dirty work done, but he's now also got 'plausible deniability' down to a science.

SerendipityJane · 04/09/2024 15:27
