Does anyone want to hazard a guess as to which party is likely to lose more voters to Robert F Kennedy? Is he more popular with Democrats or with Republicans?

Guess it'll be 7pm here in Blighty.

I reckon The Archers is more important.

Will he talk about sharks, electrocution and Hannibal Lecter again? If not, I'm not interested 😁

SerendipityJane · 08/08/2024 16:32

Way back when, there was a poll somewhere which claimed that regardless of affiliation, the one thing that united voters was a desire not to see a rerun of Trump v. Biden.

It looks like changing that proposition has unlocked the enthusiasm that was missing.

Debate related do you think?

It'll be an homage to Timothy Leary

Turn up.
Talk crap.
Go home.

(conveniently in 2-word chunks after scientific research demonstrated that MAGA supports cannot handle 3 words at once. Explaining the initials "JD" presumably).

Is he going to bow out?

He owes Putin too much to just bail.

When you google there is an odd amount that comes up about crypto and some ‘huge’ crypto announcement whatever the fuck that means.

SerendipityJane · 08/08/2024 16:48

Oooo, someones been naughty !

Igotjelly · 08/08/2024 16:55

😂 I literally said that google seems to throw up a lot of cr*o (the alternative money stuff) when you look at what he might say. Must be an automatic buzz word.

Igotjelly · 08/08/2024 16:55

Probably thinks I’m trying to sell it (I’m not…. I have literally no idea how it works!)

I don't know but I just can't see many undecided Independents going for him.

Details from a poll just in for Georgia, Kennedy gets 4% of vote of those polled.

Vice President Kamala Harris and former president Donald Trump are tied in the battleground state of Georgia, according to a new poll.

The AARP survey found Harris and Trump each received the support of 48 percent of likely voters in a head-to-head matchup in the state. Three percent were undecided, and 1 percent said “other.”

With third-party candidates included, the race remained tight. Trump garnered support from 46 percent of likely voters, and Harris got 44 percent, followed by 4 percent for independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., 2 percent for independent candidate Cornel West and 1 percent for Green Party candidate Jill Stein. Three percent were undecided.

It is the first time that AARP has polled Georgia this election cycle. The survey was conducted July 24-31, starting three days after President Joe Biden ended his reelection campaign and endorsed Harris to replace him on the ticket.

Before Biden withdrew from the race, The Washington Post’s polling average in Georgia gave Trump a five-percentage-point advantage.

Probably will be part of it I think. Rest will be "oh poor me" stuff with a few electrocuted sharks thrown in I expect. Interesting that he's potentially 'giving in' to Harris over the debates.

From Washington Post:
Former president Donald Trump is expected to propose another debate with Vice President Kamala Harris in the coming days, as his campaign seeks momentum in a suddenly tight race.

After President Joe Biden dropped out of the race and Harris became the presumptive nominee, Trump backed away from an agreement to debate on ABC next month.
Harris declined to accept his counteroffer of a debate on Fox News.

Now, Trump is likely to return to ABC News or propose a debate on NBC News with Telemundo, according to people close to him who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe private deliberations.
These people expect his proposal in the coming days and potentially as early as Thursday afternoon.
Both networks are interested in the debate, along with others, the people familiar with the matter said. Trump has discussed both networks with advisers, they said.

“President Trump consistently talks about the issues that matter the most to voters, and he’s ready to do so on a debate stage. It’s Kamala Harris who is afraid to take tough questions and speak to voters without using a teleprompter,” said Danielle Alvarez, a Trump spokeswoman.

The former president wants to debate next month, the people familiar with the matter said, because he believes he can take on Harris. But people close to him have raised concerns about how he will handle being onstage with a Black woman, the people said. He has grown annoyed in recent weeks that she is the nominee and that Biden dropped out, The Washington Post has reported.

Well my Bitcoin is still worth a few thousand. Best £20 I ever spent.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 08/08/2024 17:16

Have you tried to cash it in to get any other currency? Serious question, because as I understand it that is where any difficulty seems to come.

I've spent around £300 over the years, and have done the dance to create an ID'd account to withdraw if I want to.

I "invested" in Bitcoin to test the concept of the blockchain. On paper I am a crypto expert. But apparently because I refuse to tell people to spaff their life savings, and keep on asking other experts about how the blockchain state machine paradigm is implemented, I can't be serious .....

Probably best off not discussing it here. Use shorthand for alternative currencies and there's a hide post mechanism that kicks in

Shame that tech can't catch the more egregious racists.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 08/08/2024 18:51

Help! I'm reading so many contradictory things all over the net that I have no idea what to believe. On the one hand, the Harris-Walz ticket has rejuvenated the Democrats who are steaming ahead in the polls; on the other, Trump has been ahead for ever and is bound to win, despite the opposition. My favourite, though, is that Trump has apparently been missing for a few days and has cancelled rallies as there are so few attendees expected and the last time he went missing for so long, he'd been holed up with advisors and they came up with the assassination attempt when he next emerged in public. So what will be in store for us all in a few minutes at 2.00pm Trump Time?

Also, what's this about Nancy Pelosi dissing President Biden because she's upset he stood down and instantly supported the VP?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 08/08/2024 19:00

I thought Pelosi had asked him to step down, so why complain that he did?

Apparently, if I understand correctly, it was because she wanted him to stand down but allow the Democratic Party to select another nominee, not the VP. Or else, for him to stand down completely immediately, but then that would mean Harris would be President, which apparently wouldn't suit her ends either. Maybe it's all just fake news?
