Evangelicals having a Damascene moment?

The "Christians for Kamala" Zoom-style rally held on Monday reached 40,000 people. Plus, an evangelical group is dropping a new ad supporting VP Harris.

Trump plans to hold his second news conference in as many weeks today, this one at his golf club in New Jersey. Wonder if he'll have his teeth in and will stick to his advisors' advice to keep his replies on policy and not on sharks or the late great Hannibal L.

Will we be able to hear the press questions? (And will he be fact checked?) Answer: probably no to both.

Hopefully it will be treated as the irrelevance it is.

I note from US sources that the cities that aren't suing him for unpaid bills over his rallies, are asking for cash upfront before he can land. Which may explain why we are seeing prezzas rather than rallies. Although knowing the moronity of his movement, I guess they will lap up a story that he's being "censored" by Barack Obama who as we all know is really working Biden behind the scenes. Or so a brief scouring of MAGA theorists purports is the reality.

E2A: Incidentally, this looks remarkably prescient. From January

Do you know what time please?

I haven't seen the time mentioned anywhere yet. It sounds like it's a last minute arrangement so they need to allow time for press to get to his pad in NJ - so I would guess late afternoon/early evening? (After 10pm UK)

BREAKING: our friends at @ ClimateReport_ have been undercover in Project 2025 - the radical plan for a Trump 2nd term. What they’ve found out is remarkable.

@SerendipityJane I laughed at "whiny little bitch" far more than I probably should, but it was a great summary of Trump's 'dish it out but can't take it' ethos.

BruceAndNosh · 15/08/2024 16:56

How lazy is Trump that he wants to do his press conferences in his own living room /function suite.
I suspect the poor sound production that prevents journo's questions from being heard also conveniently allows Trump team to muffle any clapback from them.

Igotjelly · 15/08/2024 17:02

With all the caveats that I hate both men, the AI video of Trump and Musk did tickle me.

It's probably a tax thing. Means he's working from home.

Trump owes so many venues and airfields so much money, he is running out of places to have press conferences and rallies!

The last press conference was in the ballroom of MaraLargo... when there was a shot taken from behind Trump, it looked bizarre! Massive chandelier, huge ballroom, a chosen few who won't press him with q's too much

Spandauer · 15/08/2024 17:40

Oh, Kellyanne! How we've missed you. (Not)

He ain't listening.

from Washington Post:
Republicans practically beg Trump to change it up. He’s not listening.

Calls for more policy, less crowd-size talk and fewer insults have gone unheeded. Trump has signaled he won’t change — or can’t.

Former Donald Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway offered a recipe this week for Trump’s struggling 2024 campaign: “The winning formula for President Trump is very plain to see: It’s fewer insults, more insights and [a] policy contrast.”

Fellow former Trump adviser Peter Navarro echoed that. “When Trump attacks [Vice President Kamala] Harris personally rather than on policy, Harris’s support among swing voters rises — particularly among women,” Navarro said.
Trump is not listening.

At a rally Wednesday in Asheville, N.C., Trump called Harris “crazy,” “stupid” and a “lunatic,” adding that “she’s not smart, she’s not intelligent.” He repeatedly derided her laugh, including saying that it’s “career-threatening. That’s a laugh of a person with some big problems.”

And while the event was billed as a speech on economic policy, Trump made clear that wasn’t really his preferred topic.

“They wanted to do a speech on the economy,” Trump said, suggesting this wasn’t his idea and adding: “Today we’re going to talk about one subject. And then we’ll start going back to the other, because we sort of love that.”

It's impossible not to see parallels with UK2024 in what's happening to the GOP right now. A leader who simply doesn't "get it" backed by a team that daren't act or they will bring the whole house of cards down.

I never cease to wonder at how people struggle with the idea of time and cannot accept that maybe - in the past 8 years - things have fundamentally changed, and not just "got older. Time is a chemical reaction, not a physical one. But again, that needs a little modicum of understanding and moreover a willingness to understand.

Spandauer · 15/08/2024 18:15

Kamala has some spicy people on her team! Hot dog!

In an “advisory” about Donald Trump’s scheduled news conference Thursday in New Jersey, Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign described his remarks as not “artificial intelligence, but they certainly will lack intelligence,” evoking a line of attack the former president has used against Harris in recent days. The Harris campaign titled its release, “Donald Trump To Ramble Incoherently and Spread Dangerous Lies in Public, but at Different Home.” Trump’s previous news conference was at his estate in Florida.

Trump's press conference is at 4.30 EST (9.30 UK)

This is the full advisory from Harris/Walz - even better than I thought!

They appear to have hired some top guns there. Bravo !

halava · 15/08/2024 19:41

Is that media advisory a parody? It doesn't read right to me, a bit um... I don't know really, but not very professional or something? Maybe it's fighting fire with fire!

I'm not saying the poster who quoted it is wrong at all, I'm just thinking out loud.

It was quoted in the Washington Post so I think it's legit. Also seen it referenced on Xwitter by reputable posters.
Harris/Walz team are giving zero f*cks.

Yes, maybe that's it, the H/W team have had enough pussyfooting around now.

Igotjelly · 15/08/2024 21:03

I do worry they fall into the same trap that Clinton did in making out Trump’s voters are idiots that can’t be engaged seriously.

Eyesopenwideawake · 15/08/2024 22:09

That was like a second fifth rate compere auditioning for Name That Price...

Dariendreamer · 15/08/2024 22:34

Watching live. Why aren’t the reporters identifying themselves? Isn’t that normal or does that only happen in the movies/on TV?

Spandauer · 15/08/2024 23:55

Wasn't able to see any of it live - probably a blessing! Sounds like it was another rambling nothing-burger event. Calling them press conferences is laughable.

Just seen a clip where he's complaining about Kamala's portrait on the cover of Time magazine - again!
