This is the problem with MSM both here in the U.K. and also US. No real critical assessment of what he says.

NPR did a fact check on his recent "press conference":

There was a lot going on. However a key element was she stopped listening to - let alone taking - good quality advice from her own side. Eventually they dumped her after a shed load of warnings she managed to ignore.

Now it's unlikely the GOP will dump Trump - no matter how snappy a soundbite it is. But it's clear he's now gone rogue and ignoring some very sage advice.

If this is what they are happy being reported as saying, you can only imagine what they are really saying.

Because with Trump, it's all about Trump,. he has no interest in the fact that he is basically now depressing many GOP candidates. Having just had our own election, I wonder how many are trying to campaign without mentioning what party they represent ? And if such a tactic can work in the US ?

They can warn Trump all they like... he doesn't take one bit of advice from anyone. I remember every bit of his Presidency, where slightly more sane aides and members of his team repeatedly tried to advise him on certain things... not a blind bit of notice did he take. Nowt. Zilch. Nada.

Even Mike Pence (who is seriously weird) refuses to endorse him... mind you being threatened with hanging on Jan.6th probably didn't help...

The blasted World Service had it first in their headlines, with no mention of anything about the actual content apart from him having said he'd go back in October to the place where he was shot and have another rally there.

I know. Good, isn't it ? This is not a man the grown ups in the US government want anywhere near sensitive discussions and policies. If he wins, governments around the world will become much more circumspect with what they share with the US. To the detriment of the US. You can't really be a world power if the world won't tell you what the truth is.

Exactly. He has a loose tongue. Remember when he was sharing classified information about weapons sites in the ME on his phone with anyone and everyone wandering past at dinner in MarALardo (let alone the hordes of classified documents he stole when he lost the Election.)

Apparently it is not automatic that POTUS (or the UK PM) is granted security clearance. (If you like conundrums a persons security clearance is in and of itself classified information).

It was widely accepted that even as Foreign Secretary, Boris "the traitor" Johnson wasn't allowed to see too much sensitive material. I suspect Trump is treated likewise. After all, how can you know, what you aren't allowed to know ?

Security can be a little opaque or even baroque in its workings.

I once had a friend who had worked at GCHQ, and related how he one day got a document passed to him along with a list of those to whom it was to be shown; the system was that when you had read it, you initialled by your name to show that you had. He did that and passed it to the next on the list and thought no more about it. But a few days later someone came to his desk in a panic saying that he shouldn't have been on the list and shouldn't have seen it. What he then had to do was to cross out his name and initials to show that he hadn't really read it, and initial the crossing out.
