There was a lot going on. However a key element was she stopped listening to - let alone taking - good quality advice from her own side. Eventually they dumped her after a shed load of warnings she managed to ignore.
Now it's unlikely the GOP will dump Trump - no matter how snappy a soundbite it is. But it's clear he's now gone rogue and ignoring some very sage advice.
Paranoia. It's the prize of who would be dictators whether they succeed or not.
If this is what they are happy being reported as saying, you can only imagine what they are really saying.
Because with Trump, it's all about Trump,. he has no interest in the fact that he is basically now depressing many GOP candidates. Having just had our own election, I wonder how many are trying to campaign without mentioning what party they represent ? And if such a tactic can work in the US ?
