Covid 2024

Just had a Covid test line pop up so fast and fat that if it was a Clear Blue it’d be triplets.

NOT interested in hearing: why did you test/it’s just a cold/no rules any more/sheeple/not tested since 2020 any of that. I did and it’s done now.

I’ve had to cancel plans I was looking forward to, NOT because it’s the law but because I feel junk and don’t want to spread that feeling (been out and about all week so will have spread it unwittingly regardless).

I’m juggling lots of plates and this is just one more thing to start them falling atm. Now I’ve got a sore throat, sore ears, bunged up brain, cough and snot dropping down my face hence the testing.

So. If you’ve had Covid recently, what were your symptoms and how long did it last? (And what can I order from Tesco that will make it more bearable
, not that I ate for a week last time I don’t think…)

My colleague has just had it.

He said it was similar to a particularly savage cold. He was also had a yellow tinge.

LividCovid · 03/08/2024 22:23

Thanks, savage cold I can get through.

Have less than fond memories of being unable to
get off the bathroom floor in 2020 while my then toddler tried to put his hands in the toilet bowl…

I’ve just tested positive today too. Came home early from a weekend away. DH has just had it, that’s why I tested.

I feel awful. Really nauseous as well. I feel your pain! Hope we get well soon x

Ugh, no nausea here (yet) so hope to avoid that. How long did your DH’s last, @PinkiOcelot ?

Tested positive yesterday. Started feeling off colour Wednesday.

Sore throat
Absolutely aching like I’ve run a marathon
Extremely tired
Temperature
Night Sweats (actually thought I had wet the bed at one point as the bedding was damp).

Cough is very dry and irritating.
Nose feels like it’s running but it’s not.
No energy
Headache
Eyes feel heavy
Chest feels like it’s got a concrete slap lying on it.

Am actually considering taking sick leave on Monday for the first time in over a decade.

I feel like I have earache about to start as well.

Doing an online shop was more effort than it should have been. I bought lots of oranges to up the vitamin c intake.

Airport size Toblerone's are on special offer in Tesco. The white chocolate/caramel ones are quite a thing - I have one hidden so that I get to eat it when I can face food.

I hope you feel better soon.

LividCovid · 03/08/2024 23:10

Thanks @Witchbitch20 but I find the shape of Toblerones makes them impossible to eat at the best of times! Any less effortful treats I’ll be on it!

Fuck it, brain’s addled clearly since I don’t even like them 🤣 Will report back if I’m coherent tomorrow. Hopefully a sugar rush will sort it. Or distract my four year old.

Felt like the start of a cold, then nausea and weakness - went to put the bins out (a round trip of about twenty steps) and didn't think I'd make it back

He’s still poorly now, so over a week. He can get up and do things though, so it’s not stopping him now.

LividCovid · 04/08/2024 09:56

Ughhhh over a week? My nose is a river.

In good news, my giant Toblerone has just been delivered and small child seems content with watching unlimited TV 🫣

lolaran · 04/08/2024 13:51

Just had it

Started with a very sore throat then:
temperature
ear ache
bad body aches, feeling like several elephant trampled me me all at once
mild stomach upset
headache
leg pain
back pain
heavy feeling in chest
not enough energy to get up and walk to the loo

I was positive for 10 days and DH for 15, we were both bed ridden for the entire time.
Post Covid, low energy a dry cough and can't taste much

We decided to quarantine for the entire time we were positive as we didn't want to pass it to anyone, we felt so poorly.

HowardTJMoon · 04/08/2024 14:16

I had it a month or two ago. Started feeling slightly off on Thursday evening. next day I felt bloody awful. Sore throat, exhausted, aching, monumental quantities of snot and my already meagre mental faculties deserted me completely. Tested on the Saturday and came up enthusiastically positive. I had to miss out on going to a gig I'd been looking forward to for months which I'm still very annoyed about.

By the Monday I was feeling a fair bit better but the mental fog remained. By Wednesday later I was more or less back to normal although still testing positive for a couple days more.

LividCovid · 04/08/2024 14:19

Ugh. I’m supposed to have a tradesman doing a big job on Thursday.

Reluctant to cancel but if I’m still positive I can’t in good conscience not tell him. Just need a big nap….

OP posts:
Moriartea · 04/08/2024 14:21

I had it a couple of weeks ago, didn't test as wasn't seeing anyone but pretty sure it was that as had all the same symptoms as others have said

This time it also made me feel strangely spaced out and anxious/depressed. Not had that before! Taste isn't quite back to normal yet, despite it being over 2 weeks since it started

Enjoy your Toblerone OP....think I might need to pop to Tesco 🤣

StarCourt · 05/08/2024 00:49

I'm on day 4 of having covid while abroad on holiday. Landed tuesday afternoon, woke up Thursday with a really sore throat. Felt dreadful by the afternoon and tested positive.

Very sore throat and croaky
whole body aches
my skin hurts
feels like a heavy book on my chest
constant headache
cough that's getting worse
no energy or appetite

I've had loads of stress at home and work for months and months so was really looking forward to this holiday, me and DD15
I think my body just gave up

PoopedAndScooped · 05/08/2024 00:50

So many Covid threads around at the moment and people seem to be really poorly for 3 weeks +

LividCovid · 05/08/2024 11:13

I refuse to be ill for 3+ weeks in the summer holidays. I've built up a year's worth of jobs to fit in ffs.

Small child caged in the house currently giving me Ma from Room vibes (minus the kidnap but you get the drift). Our garden isn't very big and not much play stuff in it. Yes I KNOW i could legally take him anywhere, BUT I'm not really up to walking to the playground and being enthusiastic while he runs round. And I'm not dumb enough to take him to softplay, though sweating and shivering in a different place while he burns off energy would seem fun.

Basically BOOOOOOOOOO to all of it.

I have covid. Became unwell last week and had a very high fever. I had no choice in the matter but to do a home test due to having an underlying condition. I didn't know if I was flaring or not. Home covid test was positive straight away.

There's benefits to still testing. I had a phone consultation with my GP the morning after I tested positive and I was prescribed Paxlovid 😁, happy days with that.

I wasn't doing great for a few days last week but looks like I am turning a corner now and I am back on my feet.

This is not a cold.

Wishing you all the best who have it right now.

EdgarAllanCrow · 05/08/2024 18:41

Has anyone had gastro symptoms this time round?

Not sure if I actually have it but I started to get a sore throat on Thursday and by Friday was choked up and had a chesty cough but didn’t feel overly bad. By Sunday my temp was up and I had a pounding headache. Woke up early hours of this morning drenched in sweat and had to run to the toilet with a really upset stomach. Had waves of nausea all day, zero energy and cough is worse than ever.

Jifmicroliquid · 05/08/2024 18:49

No cold symptoms for me. Nausea and loss of appetite, fever, chills and sweating. Feeling grim. Improvement day 6 and now day 9 I feel worse again.
Still no cough or cold symptoms, just very unwell feeling with a temperature.

yes I started last Thursday early hours with shivers and chills, bad tummy upset (which is unlike me as normally constipated), raise in temperature, awful nausea, aches. Felt horrible. And my heart rate was running unusually high. I tested negative, didn’t test positive until the Friday. I don’t trust negative results! Only the positive ones.
Now the tummy upset has largely subsided and it’s turned into respiratory symptoms. My nose keeps filling up. I’ve had Covid twice and on this occasion I find I have more cold symptoms, running nose, sinus pain etc.
My chest feels tight, got cough on and off, yesterday felt dizzy and short of breath, couldn’t clear my chest very well. I’m getting a type of anxiety too. Also have or have had:

Weak, tingly legs when walking.
Temperature might stay down for a bit then creep up.
Headache
Extreme tiredness/fatigue
In the beginning I felt so ill I couldn’t sleep.

Yesterday I picked up in the afternoon but this morning feel groggy - not out of the woods yet and the line on the test is darker (doesn’t necessarily mean anything apart from still very positive).
The 2 previous times I’ve had Covid it’s taken a good 2-3 weeks to get better and some symptoms lingered on and off for months.

I’m making sure to drink plenty and eat as well as I can. Hope you all start to recover soon yourself.

dreamingofsun · 06/08/2024 09:00

This is the third time i'd had covid and by far the worst. Had it in May which was just like a headcold, but clearly didnt give me any immunity to this strain.

Anyway - came on really suddenly and had cold, shivers, needed loads of sleep, lethargy, headache. Bit of a cough, but son had bad hacking one.

People i know had v&d but luckily we didnt.

It lasted a week (no way could i have worked) and then another week of having to take it really easy or i was exhausted (couldnt have done a manual job, maybe an easy non complex desk job),

took about 3 weeks to get back to normal

good luck everyone

dreamingofsun · 06/08/2024 09:01

sorry forgot....i also felt really down mentally. not because of the symptons.

Morporkia · 06/08/2024 09:07

Started with nausea and tiredness, escalated to the worst crushing feeling headache I've ever had. Sweating, shivering, vomiting. Squeezed feeling in my ribs and chest. Headache got worse (didnt actually think that was possible) All my limbs ached, extreme fatigue, did I mention that headache? Because 2 weeks later I still have it. Wake up to it every morning and first thing I do is take a painkiller DH had same symptoms along with loss of taste and smell, which he is still complaining about.

AuntieMarys · 06/08/2024 09:08

5 days for me. First time I've had it. No lingering effects.
