@Apolloneuro @RobinStrike thanks for asking, the shop was OK at 10pm despite some trouble reported in that area as another family member was collecting something and checked. There was a heavy police presence and it seems they managed to keep the two marches separate even though there was trouble.

Just hoping they are not back again tomorrow.

RafaistheKingofClay · 03/08/2024 23:58

Might be a bit late for this time, but if it looks like it’s going to go on longer could they board up the windows before?

That’s what lots of shops and houses here do for an annual event that attracts lots of people.

Evenstar · 04/08/2024 00:13

I think the cost might be an issue, but worth considering

TooBigForMyBoots · 04/08/2024 00:19

Shocking scenes in here today and tonight. Police helicopters circling south and east Belfast.

Women and children are afraid in their homes.Sad

Oh dear xx

They're being thrown out of pubs, fighting, setting fires and wrecking their own areas. Terrifying everyone.Angry

And many of them will be going back to women and children who are terrified of what they do behind closed doors. That kind of aggression doesn't disappear as soon as those men get home.SadAngrySad

The thought of that is just unbearable.

Willowkins · 04/08/2024 02:55

@Rainbowsponge I came for the politics and stayed for the cats.

Dominic Grieve on X :

It's impossible to view the postings of Farage, without utter revulsion.
He masquerades as a " reasoned commentator" on what he claims to be a national crisis linked to immigrants while claiming he deplores any lawlessness. Then he hints at more lawlessness if his warnings are not heeded.
The reality is that his entire political future is dependent on fomenting confrontation and division. It is by creating a climate of crisis that he has got where he has.

DrRiverSong · 04/08/2024 07:12

He’s not wrong and much more articulate than the words I would choose for the man.

Countrylife2002 · 04/08/2024 07:30

Hopping on board. Best thread on mn

I said that to DP last night - I’m willing to bet these ‘protectors of women & children’ are more likely than average to be aggressive at home and toward their family

@Rainbowsponge we're hardly a KS fanclub. We just like to give a new government more than 4 weeks to tidy up 14 years of mess before we start moaning about them. We have several people on here who have voted Conservative in the past. Politics is a complicated game.

And there's nothing wrong with swearing. It's a lot better than rioting and thuggery for starters.

BustingBaoBun · 04/08/2024 08:01

Thanks for the new thread Duncin.

No cat here but captured this (noisy) lot when going to buy my eggs at the local farm 😊

I didn’t say there was anything wrong with it? But I don’t think the scale goes straight from swearing to violent disorder.

Mick Lynch speaking to the crowd defending their community.
"We will not allow the Right Wing to dominate our working class communities"

Well said that man

I haven't had chance to read all the posts yet but I have admired the pet tax photos in the gallery at the top.

Here's my neighbour's rescue kitty - so young and yet already so judgy 😆

Oops 😊 I'm here too 👋

Countrylife2002 · 04/08/2024 08:27

If anyone comes across any anti-facism car stickers etc I’d be grateful if you could post here. The ones I can find are all US inspired.

Saucery · 04/08/2024 08:30

Mick Lynch is ace. Glad he has spoken out.

Blackpool seems to have had the most trouble yesterday (in Lancashire). Of course they were going to concentrate their efforts on the place where they could cause maximum disruption and fear - Bolton, Blackburn and Preston shopping centres wouldn’t have the same impact and there’s no way they would have got near any mosques to cause the sort of harm they did in Southport.
Cowardly little shitheads. The photo of a masked youth with his hands down his pants next to a burning community hub says it all Angry

I’m new here, but to me it’s a mn equivalent of a group of people sat around a cafe table, chewing the fat.

We share photos of charming things to cheer each other up. As is typical, we have similar beliefs about some things. When we disagree, we do it politely and gently.

We’re pleasant to each other, I think quite a few of us are of a similar age and a few of us are teachers. We love Nans Against Nazis and dogs who bite bums.

We don’t play with people who try to goad us; we can’t be bothered and there’s enough scrapping on other threads.

I love this.

If we were a Facebook group this would be our "about" description.

This is not just an anti fascist sticker.. This is an anti fascist CAT sticker. https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1254390604/15-pack-anti-fascist-cats-mini-sticker?ref=yr_purchases

Cheguevarahamster · 04/08/2024 09:19

BTW I am reading this at the moment. It's fascinating book about how post war fascism, became a force in British politics. It's just so depressing that this is happening again but you can also see people are fighting back.
