I suggest we sentence people based on their age settings on social media.

If you've pretended to be 18 to get onto TikTok then you can do an 18 years olds time.

If you don't have any social media .... you probably aren't in front of a judge.

I am glad the 14 year old got bail. Maybe I am soft but I don't want to see young people locked up for one moment of stupidity.

The rest of them can rot.

I’m with you on the 14 year old if he genuinely hasn’t been in trouble before. It doesn’t sound like he went out to cause trouble.

A cursory trawl of his social media will not only confirm this, but potentially be the source of lifelong embarrassment if his browsing habits are revealed.

I make zero - repeat zero - apologies for noting it's a "he". Zero surprise either.

Aaaaaargh I am so fucking annoyed!

DS is in America for 2 weeks with his partner. Today partner's car was stolen. With DS' wheelchair in it. His brand new wheelchair which cost £3.5 k and which he had only had for a week. Yes, it's insured but I will still have to order a replacement up front and then pay to have it delivered to him in Plymouth, and the whole thing takes 8 weeks.

The car has been found, damaged. The wheelchair is of course gone.

Avoiding being arrested. What a bloody cretin & coward he is.

What sort of scumbag steals a wheelchair? What a PITA, @pointythings

Willowkins · 05/08/2024 18:18

Sending an unmumsnetty hug @pointythings

DrRiverSong · 05/08/2024 18:20

Ah @pointythings that is truly shit. I hope it’s sorted more quickly than you’re expecting and whoever stole it isn’t adept at lifting it and takes their own shins out.

Notonthestairs · 05/08/2024 18:21

Oh my goodness - as PickAChew says what kind of scumbag steals a wheelchair. Bastards.

Oh I'm so sorry and so annoyed in your behalf.

When my car back window was smashed up by a local thug a few months ago ds wheelchair was in the back. We couldn't get it out. Which meant no using alternative transport either.

I was fuming - mainly because his mum was all over the local fb page (from abroad) pleading we didn't understand him.

I don't know how it works in US. But I wrote a strong victim personal statement about what his actions meant to someone else and the effect on their life.

As an aside - and you shouldn't have to - but can you hire one from Red Cross or shop mobility in the process? Or borrow one from occupational therapy?

It's a bespoke super lightweight chair, only weighes about 7 kilos... I reckon it will be sold for drugs.
DS going to file a police report today, he'll need one to be able to claim. It's insured for replacement value and at a week old they can't claim wear and tear. His OH's parents are sorting a loan chair.

We have a replacement, which is his starter chair. It is heavy, unwieldy and makes him dislocate things. He's been in it since his old chair broke (which was his fault!) in May. He wouldn't get anything better from the Red Cross.
