I don’t say she is. But let’s look at the bigger picture which is the law versus street justice. And that is something that is currently intended to protect all of us. What would it look like in the hands of someone who thinks that human rights are whites only?

I'd far rather have Patel in charge of the Tories than someone spotting this as an "opportunity" and undermining the government/rules of law.

She's gone up in my estimation.

Scotland and Wales have much lower population densities, there’s less overcrowding, it’s less diverse. It really isn’t social science to know that isn’t a recipe for what we have seen this week. Trying to make out there’s some defunct English man gene which compels them to lose their minds and race riot, while those born 60 minutes away over the border are somehow immune to it, is a nonsense (and quite a bigoted nonsense - no different to slurring anyone else based on the actions of a small minority).

Cardiff, for example, is massively diverse and people living in very high concentrations. Yet we’ve (so far) managed not to chuck bricks at each other.

And mine. I’m a bit worried about myself.

Rainbowsponge · 05/08/2024 13:49

Me?

You. You don’t seem to get it. Why when you disagree do you keep digging? No one else on here does this - do you see now? I mean this kindly btw

itsgettingweird · 05/08/2024 13:51

Pretty Flowers I'm glad your evening went well. I'm sure your dad is very proud of your ds and you for raising such a lovely young man.

bombastix · 05/08/2024 13:52

Because if we had done as you did @Rainbowsponge many of us couldn’t discuss at all. We’d get stuck and make it personal.

Rainbowsponge · 05/08/2024 13:53

bombastix · 05/08/2024 13:51

Because that’s what discussion is? You reply, then they reply? You seem to want a thread full of self congratulation and only agreement. That’s not realistic on an internet forum.

bombastix · 05/08/2024 13:53

No. We disagree. But we move on. That you want something else is all about you?

Saucery · 05/08/2024 13:54

Yes, it’s the belligerent, “gotcha” tone for me too @Rainbowsponge . I’m simply not interested in engaging with someone on that level of snark on these threads. The near constant refrain of “oh, SENSITIVITIES in policing riots!” is boring too, as is your habit of snapping at posters for unrelated matters, like Reporting.
I mean, you do you and all that, but we don’t have to take you on 🤷‍♀️

If you genuinely want an explanation then there’s mine ^^^
There won’t be any more interaction from me because from your first post on this thread sneering at “Keir Starmer fans” or whatever piffle it was I could tell your intended debating style and it doesn’t interest me in the least.

I don't think it's conincidence he won't show his face in the HoP.

Too scared to be challenged Face to face. Hides behind a screen.

I bet he has popped in for the odd subsidised lunch.

Apolloneuro · 05/08/2024 13:56

@Rainbowsponge this is the very last time I am going to respond to you.

I’ve asked Mumsnet to encourage you to step out of this thread: there are 100s of threads where you can go and snipe . We do.

On this thread we don’t goad, or poke each other. We save our disdain for the nasty people. Right at this moment, when everyone is so upset, it’s not the time or place.

The irony is that actually I think you agree with most of what we say. It’s ok not to agree, but on here we do it respectfully. I think you have got into an unfortunate habit of the way you talk to people.

PandoraSox · 05/08/2024 13:57

Saucery · 05/08/2024 13:33

Indeed @Willowkins . I should really get on Ancestry etc before the things that have been passed down from my grandparents fade from family memory. Might be tall tales embellished but who knows - “washed ashore from the Armada” is one of them!

You should, it is fascinating, but be prepared for some family secrets to come to light!

It is also quite sad at times. Seeing seven year old boys listed as "farm labourers" on the census is sobering.

I have not done much decorating...

Rainbowsponge · 05/08/2024 13:57

Of course you’re going to say ‘it’s the tone’. People always do when they can’t address what’s actually being said. I’ll bow out now as it’s clear to me (as I said) this is a thread of self congratulation, fuzzy feelings and reassuring each other that you’re excellent people while dodging anything remotely uncomfortable or unanswerable.

Well I am not sure we are all excellent people. I have quite a few shitty traits, tbh. But we are not racists or apologists for racists.

bombastix · 05/08/2024 13:59

You left as you came; with disdain. This thread is not what you think. It is actually about the people on it.

CassieMaddox · 05/08/2024 14:00

I can definitely be too argumentative for my own good 😂

Yeah, so you keep saying. I don’t feel the need to repeat this over and over while accusing everyone else.

Apolloneuro · 05/08/2024 14:00

I eat too much cake

Saucery · 05/08/2024 14:00

Breaking my own rule here but……

As an occasional Tory voter who also voted Leave, your description of the interactions on this thread is an unrecognisable pile of steaming bollocks. Hope you find the debate you want elsewhere on MN or the wider internet,

I eat too much cake

I just ate the rest of the big bag of paprika crisps I bought yesterday. I actually had some or breakfast. I also hid them from my DH so I wouldn't have to share.

bombastix · 05/08/2024 14:02

I don’t know I used to moderate a forum where this came up time and time again. And I used to say, this place is like a pub; would you pull up a stool and start driving a conversation dominantly with a group you didn’t know well? And indeed, most people go “ah no”.

The internet sets a low bar often.

Well there’s none going on here! Bye all.

I have pointed out posts that I think are racist, yes. I don't think I have directly accused anyone of being a racist as that is against the MN guidelines.
