Where's the furthest you been on holiday and bumped into someone you know?

Just wondered how common this is and could prove an interesting thread. Have you ever been away, especially abroad, and bumped into someone you know? We are away abroad at the moment, busy kids pool and it got me thinking wouldnt it be funny if someone from DCs school appeared in the pool. It's never happened to me for the record...

We always seem to be doing this. Our village has 650 people in it. In Malta bumped into someone from the village, similarly on a flight to Jerez. In a small boat (6 people) going to the island of Spinalonga met the cousin of someone in the village. DH on trip to Russia bumped into an ex pupil at Lenin’s tomb.

We bumped into someone who lived in our street whilst we were on holiday in Ibiza they were staying in our hotel.
Last year someone who we had previously met on holiday messaged me randomly and she was on holiday, staying in the very hotel we are staying in when we go next week to Turkey.

Not me but my husband bumped into a school friend on the Whitsundays, around 28 years ago!

I knew someone who said that if you put a lot of peas in a jar and shake them around, two are bound to touch one another more than once.

You had more in common than you thought you had !

San Francisco! We were on a bus and stopped near the Golden Gate Bridge; a woman who worked in my DCs’ school got on the bus with her family. My DC’s were delighted to see her- I expect she was less pleased 😂

Bumped into a work colleague in Thailand!

Not me,but my now exH when we we were on holiday in Spain many years ago. On the third day we were there, sitting by the hotel pool,a bloke came over to us and said to my exH, 'I don't bloody believe it! It's Gary,isn't it?'. Turns out it was someone exH went to school with, actually staying at the same hotel as us. I'm still incredulous all these years later.

Slight back story: I lived in Naples (Italy) for a few years in my early twenties.
Moved back to London.
Went on holiday with a friend, to Rio de Janeiro.
Was lounging by a pool and spotted someone I thought I knew from my Naples years. Obviously thought it couldn't possibly be him.
Fast forward a few years, I moved back to Naples, and bumped into this person; happened to mention that I saw someone who looked like him in Rio a few years ago, and, yep, it was him.
Bizarre!
