Pain and worrying results

I'm sorry, but I'm posting for traffic. Dh has pain and as a result had bloods done. The results have come back, and to our untrained eyes, look potentially very worrying. He is still in pain. Nobody at the GP practice will speak to him until his appointment in 3 weeks time. What would you do?? I think he'll go mad waiting. Where can we find some answers?

Would you be able to elaborate on where the pain is or what the blood tests show?

I understand you must be worried.

Chickendinner24 · 31/07/2024 16:33

Liver.

Results are very high, but too complex for us to figure out.

Even given the current state of the NHS they wouldn't leave your DH waiting for 3 weeks if it was anything awful or that needs urgent attention. If the blood test results suggested something like cancer or liver failure or diabetes etc. then your DH would have been referred to a specialist or for more tests. A 3-week wait for an appointment with GP doesn't sound like anything too worrying.

If you can share his symptoms and the test results we might have more insight...

Chickendinner24 · 31/07/2024 16:36

Would it be wise to book in with a private GP? I've never done that before. An online consultatation is £50 and a face to face is £130.

@BirdInDisguise well it could be liver failure or cancer, yes. Especially worrying as he is in a lot of pain in that area.

Chickendinner24 · 31/07/2024 18:59

Anyone?

OP posts:
GoldenPombear · 31/07/2024 19:03

What tests were done/results? Can you call the gp and ask for an earlier appt or phone call?

Chickendinner24 · 31/07/2024 19:31

He's tried and they won't offer anything. It's very high liver results and he has a lot of pain in that area.

OP posts:
GoldenPombear · 31/07/2024 19:35

Do you have the actual results?

Chickendinner24 · 31/07/2024 19:41

Yes they are on the NHS app and Google is obviously not great!

OP posts:
mindutopia · 31/07/2024 19:44

There are a lot of things that could fall under ‘liver blood tests’. Can you say what the actual tests are, the results and ranges? They usually aren’t that difficult to interpret once you know what you’re looking at (as someone with abnormal liver blood results myself).

Chickendinner24 · 31/07/2024 19:53

GT 122 range 0-75
ALT 88 range 0-45

I hope you can help! He has pain, so we know there is definitely something wrong. Not a man who easily goes to the doctors.

The British Liver Trust has a helpline. Details here. You could try them for help before the GP appointment.

CherriesBerriesAndBananas · 31/07/2024 20:12

He would be on the two week cancer pathway if they suspected cancer x

Chickendinner24 · 31/07/2024 20:15

@TheGirlattheBack thanks I'll have a look.

@CherriesBerriesAndBananas that's hiw we're trying to think, but even if not cancer, the results show damage? And he's in pain.

Edited

You’re correct, they’re high, A&E if pain is bad or go private if you can afford it , don’t wait three weeks

OldTinHat · 31/07/2024 20:32

Is he on any medication?

My liver results recently are similar but my GP made a note saying 'expected'. I have grumbles in my right side but I've been told not to worry.

Chickendinner24 · 31/07/2024 20:33

@pompey38 eek.

OP posts:
Chickendinner24 · 31/07/2024 20:34

@OldTinHat not anything that affects liver.

OP posts:
Chickendinner24 · 31/07/2024 22:11

Why would the GP not see him with such high results?

OP posts:
whowhatwerewhy · 31/07/2024 22:13

Hi can't comment on the test results, but I think you need to go private if you can afford to for your own piece of mind .

Chickendinner24 · 01/08/2024 04:28

Thanks, I think we'll have to. I just feel awful, so god knows how he feels.

OP posts:
Aussieland · 01/08/2024 05:43

Obviously I am not sure what is wrong with him and 3 weeks wait for an appointment is terrible but just to reassure you those are not that high. If they were in the high hundreds or thousands it would be super urgent. This doesn’t mean there isn’t something going on and it doesn’t mean he shouldn’t be seen sooner but the numbers themselves are not dire
