I am setting up a new business and came to the agonising task of picking a name. Can I have some feedback on 'Prime Foresight' as a name, please?

My business objectives: project management, design management and overall project leadership and delivery services for clients, designers, and contractors working in the super-prime residential and luxury development sector.

On a personal level, I like the word 'foresight' and its most relevant description of an attribute or quality which distinguishes me from others when driving a project. I am genuinely known as a person with good foresight which always helps me with problem-solving and delivering creative outcomes.

My concerns: too conventional, 'foresight' is an overused name, pretentious?.. or not sophisticated enough? It needs to sound a bit conservative considering the type of industry and clients I'm involved with. On the other hand, I don't think it's 'edgy' or progressive enough, sounds too corporate and non-creative. Or am I entirely overthinking this?

It think "prime solutions" would be better

I dotn know why I don't like foresight!

Same , not sure why.

BellesAndGraces · 31/07/2024 16:08

Me too. Foresight is too similar to foreskin.

MiddleAgedDread · 31/07/2024 16:09

It doesn't really make sense, it sounds like you've picked two words out of a bullshit jargon generator and doesn't give any indication what your business does.

BeerForMyHorses · 31/07/2024 16:09

Foresight is visually a really horrible looking work for some reason. It always looks like it's spelt wrong

BrightLightTonight · 31/07/2024 16:10

Big no from me. Along with the others “foresight” is horrible.

What about using ‘Vision” instead

For some reason I’m reading Prime Foresight but in my mind I’m hearing Bruce Forsyth.

leeverarch · 31/07/2024 16:15

You might get legal hassle if you use 'Prime' anything. Some very large corporations can be very touchy about any business using a name that could possibly be construed as similar to theirs.

I agree. Prime Foresight is not a phrase that anyone would actually say or write in a sentence, any more than Luxury Foresight.

And foresight is about correctly predicting a future outcome. I don't see how this fits with @Iamapm business plan. The projects are planned in advance, informed by OP's experience, - not predicted. You wouldn't say "@Iamapm had the foresight to plan, budget, and hire expert contractors", as it suggests that it's almost an unusual outcome if the project works out great. When it's exactly what you'd expect if you did that.

BellesAndGraces · 31/07/2024 16:27

In that sector I would use your name, initials or something connected to your location. E.g P+F (if your name were Prime Foresight).

Fink · 31/07/2024 16:27

What is foresight in the sense of some quality you have which others in the field lack? Do you just mean that you're thorough in planning for future eventualities? Is this because you have a lot of experience of the sort of things that do crop up, or because you plan in detail for every possible problem? Maybe think about what you mean by foresight and try another way to word it, because Prime Foresight is awful: it's the worst combination of mashing together bits of corporate jargon whilst not giving any information about what the business is or does.

OldTinHat · 31/07/2024 16:30

I'd be scratching my head if I saw that on any advertising materials.

Exactly my thoughts.

"Prime Foresight" doesn't mean anything - and sounds like it's been generated by AI (has it?).

"Prime Project Management" might be better, although as PPs have said, the word "Prime" might be contested.

GoldenPombear · 31/07/2024 16:35

I read foresight as foreskin too 😂

Prime sounds American like Amazon prime prime real estate or prime rib.

Caraxes · 31/07/2024 16:36

I agree with others. "Vision" might be a better word? Still appropriately bullshitty, but scans a lot better and still gets the point across.

BellesAndGraces · 31/07/2024 16:40

I also like the approach of using gods and deities that embody the qualities that are your USP. Your logo can then incorporate the image of the relevant god or deity. Here are some suggestions that you can incorporate into a name that have themes of foresight, vision, and perception, and each references a mythological figure known for these attributes (just add “Advisory Services” after them):

Theia - Greek titaness of sight
Apollo - Greek god of prophecy, light, and knowledge)
Athena - Greek goddess of wisdom and strategy
Janus - Roman god of beginnings, transitions, and duality, often depicted with two faces)
Metis - Greek Titaness of wisdom and deep thought
Argus - Greek giant with many eyes, symbolizing vigilance and surveillance

I quite like Theia Advisory Services Limited.

Fahbeep · 31/07/2024 16:41

I like business names that are on the nose and easy to understand. These are rated highly in our culture (think about trade names for a moment).

You don't want a business name that you have to explain repeatedly, or is hard to remember, because unless you are a massive company, you are the brand.

"[Your surname] Project Management"

This would be my suggestion.

There's nothing wrong with conventional if it drives business.

@Ilovemyshed she’s focussed on the super-prime residential and luxury development sector, pretentious is fine.

Ok! Back to the drawing board. No one likes this. But Foreskin?? What a curious association!

I honestly felt it's a bit off for a name despite finding the word Foresight appropriate as an attribute (mainly because many in my industry have none or very little of this, but this is a subject of a different thread..)

Thank you all for the feedback. Massively helpful.
