I believe she's going to make a statement today or soon, about plans for house-building.

What would you like her to take into consideration as she makes these plans and implements them?

Would you send her an e-mail to say what you think about it all?

Build more social housing. Stop relying on private developers

Please don't build 1.5 million houses.

Please build 3 million.

Please don't listed to the NIMBYS that don't want young families to have housing.

Please make it social housing so the rents paid go back into social housing.

Thanks!

The government won’t be building them.

Billyballyboo · 30/07/2024 12:16

No right to buy. Build council housing. Uk passport holders prioritised over immigrants. No building on green field, develop brown field sites. Take into consideration infrastructure as it's not just housing, it's doctors, roads, schools etc.

Brendabigbaps · 30/07/2024 12:18

Please make sure they also build sufficient infrastructure around the houses.
developers currently parcel up the land between each other so they don’t build enough on their own to force them to build schools, gps etc

onlyconnect · 30/07/2024 12:22

House building needs to be number 1 priority. We're going to have to be less precious about planning permission. I speak as someone who walks on and loves land near me that I know will be earmarked for development.
I hope her plans are robust.

Rummly · 30/07/2024 12:22

Get your response to Panorama and the Sunday Times written now, well in advance of the inevitable investigations into delay, cost overrun and fraud and the appalling state of the few houses actually built.

While you’re writing that, get a pro forma letter together for the many dozens of Labour backbenchers who’ll start objecting because they’ll lose their seats.

👍

Also I agree with the right to buy- owning property transforms the fortunes of family. But it needs to be constantly replaced with a stream of new social housing. The previous catastrophic mistake was to allow supply to dry up.

@Emmacc24 really even if it’s replaced on a 1:1 basis? Why? Property ownership into the hands of as many individuals as possible is the most socialist thing I think a government can do.

Spacecrispsnack · 30/07/2024 12:29

By the way do not bombard Angela Raynor with emails that’s not how the system works you have to email your own MP who will pass on representations.

Social housing. Just that, proper council-owned social housing, not developers with their token 15%, actual affordable rental properties and lots of them. And no more right to buy, home ownership is no longer something we can all aspire to so (proper) social housing needs to fill that gap instead of leaving people with no choice other than extortionate private rentals. I'm in a HA property and remind myself daily how lucky I am to have it but it shouldn't be that way, everyone who needs it should have access to social housing.

Spacecrispsnack · 30/07/2024 12:37

@Emmacc24 thanks for answering, yes I can see that point of view, so do you think it’s preferable then that some people who might otherwise be able to start a upward cycle of generational wealth are more likely to stay poor? Do you agree with other means of changing this like shared ownership and the ability to buy increasing proportions of the property? I suppose that’s probably the answer, have some properties never for sale and then ladder based schemes for others.

Rummly · 30/07/2024 12:38

Dear Angela,

Please do something radical against buy-to-let and AirBnB.

Ta.

Yes please!

Spacecrispsnack · 30/07/2024 12:39

I hope they build lots of high density mansion block style housing in London. No need for super high rise, just lots of lovely well proportioned duplex apartments with large shared gardens.

CelesteCunningham · 30/07/2024 12:45

I like @Rummly and @StMarieforme 's messages.

LoobyDoop2 · 30/07/2024 12:50

Make them build homes that people want to live in, with decent sized rooms and outdoor space. Not tiny little apartments that are destined to be giant piggy banks for overseas investors.

whatsappdoc · 30/07/2024 12:57

Every single unit built, social or private, has to have two off road parking spaces and an electric point please.

FruitLoop83 · 30/07/2024 13:01

Lots of large 3 and 4 bed apartments with outdoor space and underground parking.

toooldforbrat · 30/07/2024 13:01

free up land that is blocked by developers - large site in our town that has had planning for 20 years , but owner is refusing to progress develop.

Independent building quality inspectors to improve build quality

LuckbeaLady2 · 30/07/2024 13:01

Please keep rolling Boris pledge of 40 more hospitals.

If you want all these new houses you must provide services along with them.

Please make the housing attractive with parks and trees and wildlife. So people can feel proud of where they live.
Don't build ghetto.

Please build doctors and school etc
