I've just seen this.

Just awful.

prettybird · 29/07/2024 14:34

That's horrible Sad

The BTL frothing on the Telegraph’s website is a joy to behold. Ironic that the biggest beneficiaries of a functional health service are those angriest about paying for it.

THEY PAID THEIR TAXES
Bloody lazy workshy junior doctors and their avocado obsession

Do I have it about right?

Horrible news from Southport

Liam Thorpe

We understand that at least one person is dead and multiple others are critical with major trauma after today's appalling knife attack in Southport

We understand the attack was on children and adults at a property in Hart Street this morning

Sad

This is an example Ridiculous caving in to junior doctors who do very little work now!! The NHS is unfortunately doomed and is turning into a clock on clock off mentality. Where has the professionalism gone?

IClaudine · 29/07/2024 15:43

It is terrible news.

DuncinToffee · 29/07/2024 15:45

Reeves says she's uncovered £22 billion of unfunded commitments by the previous Conservative administration, meaning a 25% budget deficit this year.

"They had exhausted the reserve, and they knew that - but nobody else did."

They claimed the books were open. "How dare they."

Since the election Hunt has admitted they couldn't afford to offer more tax cuts - the truth is we couldn't afford the ones we've already had.

DuncinToffee · 29/07/2024 15:47

Rachel Reeves says the last government overspent on the asylum budget by £6.4bn and the transport budget by £1.6bn

The OBR was not aware of these figures, she tells MP

Extraordinary figures

Given pressures on public spending and borrowing those £20bn in NI cuts never looked like good economics.

I really enjoyed the Chancellor's Statement (can't often say that). Of course the news is terrible but she explained it all clearly and with passion. Now listening to the Shadow Chancellor.

He lives up the name he was given, where you swap the first letter of his surname with a C.

Willowkins · 29/07/2024 16:14

I suppose he did the best he could in the circumstances. His arguments seemed tired and misleading.

Willowkins · 29/07/2024 16:17

Robust response from Rachel Reeves - but interrupted by yet more shocking news.

Jesus.🤦‍♀️

Willowkins · 29/07/2024 16:32

Considerable support for government (and retribution for ex-government) from Sarah Olney (Liberal Democrat spokeswoman). She brought up the Cost of Living crisis and the effect of NHS waiting times on productivity. Conservatives looked shocked.

OBR have apparently confirmed that that they weren't fully informed on the state of finances.

BIossomtoes · 29/07/2024 16:38

Maybe Paul Johnson will wind his neck in and stop politicking now. He looks a complete fool this afternoon. I’m really surprised Reeves isn’t proposing reversing the Tories’ NI cuts but I suppose she can’t after promising NI wouldn’t go up. Absolutely disgusting on Hunt’s part, he must have known they were unaffordable.

“We were made aware of the extent of these pressures at a meeting with the

Good grief. It can only have been a fairly massive cover up.

No wonder Sunak and hunt look chipper.

Pretty much everything, CassieMaddox, hell's bells, so much grimness. Thanks for the extra cats everyone, a delight in a sad world.

The government has announced the following pay rises for public sector workers

  • 6% for Armed Forces
  • 5.5% for NHS workers and teachers
  • 5% for prison officers
  • 4.75% for police officers
OP posts:
pointythings · 29/07/2024 18:35

5.5 is at the top end of what we were expecting in my Trust. It'll be welcome and will make quite a difference in my pay packet. Especially since it'll come backdated to April in a nice lump sum. I'm pleased, this feels sensible and realistic.
