"I believe the far right is rising due to populist politicians in the right of centre parties fanning the flames on top of people feeling powerless because of the rise in cost of living recently and the decline of the country under austerity over the last decade and a half. I think immigration has been pushed as a wedge issue and processing of asylum seekers has been deliberately halted (almost to a stop) by the Tory administration in order to raise this as a scapegoat.
I think to solve it we need massive investment in left behind communities and in education and the NHS, and we need politicians to talk about the real issues - and, yes, that includes immigration, making it sustainable, how to cope with the coming climate related increase in displaced people etc - and not to scapegoat any group. "
Yep.
Many of our problems stemming from the prolonged period of austerity and destruction of public services are now being utilised by the same people that applauded those same policies.
For example - Why get rid of 20k experienced police officers only then to desperately need to recruit the same numbers of new less experienced ones? Why lengthen prison sentences without expanding prison places? Why leave mental health services (particularly child mental health) adrift and then complain about our young people? Why cut FE funding? (This includes sixth form colleges). I could go on.
What about you?
