The last school standing?

A lighthearted thread, as I know there are lots of other schools still open. However, it feels like this term is never going to end. We don't break up until Friday, and the staff and children are on their knees with exhaustion. 😴

Is there anyone else out there who hasn't finished for the summer yet?

DD doesn’t break up till next Tuesday. I really feel for the staff as a former teacher, they look shattered!

Ghost2 · 25/07/2024 07:17

My oldest breaks up today as Friday is an Inset day & my youngest breaks up on Friday.

Sirzy · 25/07/2024 07:17

We finished on Monday and that felt late enough! Good luck getting through the last few days

Yep Friday here too.

There's quite a few here around here still dragging themselves towards Friday. I wouldn't mind if it meant a longer break at the other end but those still going seem to be going back in September at the same time as those who broke up last week or the week before.

Next TUESDAY!!!

Bloody hell. I have no idea how we're going to make it to Friday, breaking up next Tuesday is ridiculously late. I think our staff and pupils would riot if they had to come back next week. Your poor DD and the staff.

Is it because some schools have added an extra week holiday in October half term or longer for Christmas?

Schools must open 40 weeks of the year of which 5 of those days are inset.

Dearg · 25/07/2024 07:23

Good grief, I feel for you. Here in Aberdeenshire we are through our first 3 weeks and beginning to plan for winter 🥶

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 25/07/2024 07:25

That’s so late! DS broke up last Tuesday!

No all the schools around here have the two weeks at October and similar amount of time for Christmas. I know logically we all work the same amount of days but we were trying to make it work in the staff room yesterday and just couldn't see how it did... Although that might just be because we're all completely done and even reception level maths is beyond us at this stage...

SurreyMumOfOne · 25/07/2024 07:28

Oh my goodness! Where on earth through the year have the extra days been? It was Tuesday for us and that felt late enough.

DDivaStar · 25/07/2024 07:31

My daughter finishes today, last day at primary !

Krumpets · 25/07/2024 07:40

Same, we are all crawling on our knees to Friday 3.30!! And what's also horrible is that we are back early - Mon 2nd Sept! I think this must be shortest summer holiday ever and I've worked in education my entire life. My kids' school have started movies and game days, but where I work is still plugging away with proper lessons.

Beezknees · 25/07/2024 07:43

A lot of Nottinghamshire schools don't finish until Friday. They have a shorter summer break as they have a 2 week half term in October.

thehousewiththesagegreensofa · 25/07/2024 07:44

We finally finished yesterday.
The holidays have really annoyed me this year as they broke up for Christmas on 15th December which was far too early.

Frankcat19 · 25/07/2024 07:45

We broke up on Tuesday and we were all exhausted, especially after an Ofsted inspection last week. I hope the next two days speed by for you.

Ouch. We start back on the 4th and I thought that was too early.

I'm sorry others are also still open. Just a few more days. Unless you're @AliasGrape DD. Who really does seem to have a never ending summer term. 😴

The 15th does seem early, we didn't break up for Christmas until the 22nd.

We finished on Tuesday and that was dragging. Another week would have been hell. As it was loads of people went on holiday the weekend before.

Mine have gone straight into camp but seem to have some renewed energy- it was school that they were done with

I know, it seems madness. We have an extra week at Whit here, but then so do all the schools in this area and everyone else seems to have already broken up or today is the last day.

Standard 1 week for Feb and October half terms. They’re back in on 2nd September. They did have Friday INSETs before Easter and Christmas holidays so I’m guessing those are the 2 days they are giving the children back next week, still seems cruel to the teachers. They’re back on 3rd Sept which gives exactly 5 weeks - the standard round here but it still seems like an extra late finish!

DD is only in the school nursery, they’ve had their party and end of term little singsong they did for their parents this week, most stuff has already come home and I’ve noticed there are getting fewer and fewer people there at drop off/ pick up since it’s non statutory I think lots are keeping them off. Poor DD is there till the last possible second though as all our leave/ childcare favours are being used on the next 5 weeks (plus the staggered start to reception in Sept).

LuckbeaLady2 · 25/07/2024 13:32

Also dragging on and back quite soon in Sept.
Feels too short.. My dd is burnt out.

Rainbowbrite83 · 25/07/2024 13:38

We broke up yesterday.

I am school office staff and was more than ready!

RCOR · 25/07/2024 13:44

Oh my gosh. I'm in Ireland. My teens finished at the END OF MAY!! They're loving life at the min😆. The primary schools finished at the end of June. It's a L O N G summer. Esp as the weather has been dreadful where we are.

MiddleAgedDread · 25/07/2024 13:47

yep, I know people in until tomorrow and Tuesday next week! It's because they had 2 weeks off at May half term.

SurreyMumOfOne · 25/07/2024 14:09

I would LOVE a two week May half term would probably take a late finish now if that was the trade off. It's such a great time to do things in the UK and Europe and might even be a bit cheaper in the second week if the majority aren't off then.

juggler82 · 25/07/2024 14:15

My kids are in until Friday. The poor teachers have inset Mon & Tue next week 😬It’s because they have 2 weeks in May (which is good for cheaper holidays in the second week).
