Whats with the loooong waffley OP's lately?

YouAreBoringMe · 24/07/2024 08:12

Anyone else noticed this? Ridiculously long, rambling, waffley, opening posts? Usually full of a whole heap of unneccessary information?

Are people getting EVEN MORE self obsessed?

I open, start reading, realise its a whole load of waffle, scroll down, see 20 paragraphs (If we are lucky, there are paragraphs and punctuation) and click out 😴

ChatGPT

TheShellBeach · 24/07/2024 08:15

And some are just self-obsessed men, of course.
😂

Mrsjayy · 24/07/2024 08:15

I think they are Ai generated so it comes out as absolute waffle, this is a chat site keep to the point people 😃

ChatGPT

Is this a .chat programme thingy?

fortifiedwithtea · 24/07/2024 08:19

I can’t say I’ve noticed. But reading your OP my instant thought was maybe its a back lash against being accused of drip feeding

EileenBilton · 24/07/2024 08:24

It's the Reddit style. Guaranteed 100% fiction.

YouAreBoringMe · 24/07/2024 08:29

These don't seem written like ChatGPT, just really long and boring unnecessary.

It used to be mainly men posting huge walls of text but lately it seems to be unisex. I agree about the ridiculous amount of waffle in between, eg mil not liking the paint colour in their kitchen twenty years ago.

Perhaps verbal diarrhoea has become text diarrhoea in this new(ish) SM age.

CheeseWisely · 24/07/2024 09:16

I've seen quite a few lately that are really oddly written.

The situation will be about someone's DH for example and it's 'DH has told me he's going away with his mates. This is out of character for DH. DH has never been away without us before. DH has form for cheating.' constantly using the acronym for the person rather than reverting to 'he' as would be normal once the subject has been introduced.

Tummelthecat · 24/07/2024 09:17

I agree with the OP; far too much unnecessary information. I assumed it was folk using the talk button on phones rather than typing stuff.

SatinHeart · 24/07/2024 09:18

Because people are worried that everyone will pile on and accuse them of drip feeding if they don't get every single detail in the OP.

MN (mostly AIBU) has created this monster.

I sometimes get "am I the asshole" reels on Facebook where it's read out they just go on and on, I get bored and click off total waffle.

I disagree. A lot of the time they say it's their first post. Sure they could have lurked for a while and read AIBU threads but you get a lot that admit they came, they posted, and then they flounce.

Pp has made a good point but I've never used it. Would this new talk to type feature make posts like this?

RaraRachael · 24/07/2024 10:03

I can't say I've noticed but if any OP is very long (especially without paragraphs) I just don't have the concentration span to bother reading it. So what may seem an interesting heading turns into a borefest.

i agree... i've posted a couple of times and rather than be accused of drip feeding or missing out information, i put as much information into the original post as is humanly possible

that said, its often not read properly anyway

DeftLemonDog · 24/07/2024 10:09

Yep. Accusations of drip feeding would see me writing a very detailed OP.

Allthislovelygreen · 24/07/2024 10:18

I've noticed, I think it's because so many people here are so snappy at pp's so quickly if they're found to "drip feed".

Sometimes I think they're AI generated though, particularly if they're too well structured and grammatically perfect

Bumpic · 24/07/2024 10:52

I hate the "I (f25) and x (m29)..." which has started creeping in recently.

Is that a Reddit thing like AITA?

Bjorkdidit · 24/07/2024 10:57

A lot of it is AI.

If that's the sort of drivel it produces, I don't see it taking over the world any time soon.

purplecorkheart · 24/07/2024 11:15

Noticed the same over the last few weeks. I did wonder was it that people were bored on holidays and decided to massive essays.

Yes, I just look at it and think...no.

Yep that's a Reddit thing. All very well when it's a relationship issue but a lot of the time it's used it's completely irrelevant to the subject of the thread.

lawnseed · 24/07/2024 16:54

I just wish people would correct their typos. Even the thread titles have them in now.

Tgrevu vtthcfv, yogrgsni gychn jcdrjchi?

(translation: my hamster has constipation, do you think he should see a vet?)

Changingplace · 24/07/2024 16:59

It’s one extreme to the other, either walls of text full of unnecessary details & waffle.

Or the other extreme where they don’t give really any details at all because they think it’ll be outing but that makes it virtually impossible to actually comment without any context whatsoever.
