Whats with the loooong waffley OP's lately?

Anyone else noticed this? Ridiculously long, rambling, waffley, opening posts? Usually full of a whole heap of unneccessary information?

Are people getting EVEN MORE self obsessed?

I open, start reading, realise its a whole load of waffle, scroll down, see 20 paragraphs (If we are lucky, there are paragraphs and punctuation) and click out 😴

OP posts:

Anything too long gets a swerve

RaraRachael · 24/07/2024 22:15

I always wonder about the "Name changed as it could be outing"
Are people recognised on here? I don't know anyone IRL who's on here. In fact nobody has even heard of MN

Lentilweaver · 24/07/2024 22:17

I have noticed a lot of drip feeds. This happend and that happened and when posters disagree with OP, they trot out a story of childhood abuse which makes everything irrelevant.

RaraRachael · 24/07/2024 22:22

I hate when somebody posts something then disappear for 24 hours

Bjorkdidit · 24/07/2024 22:24

Indeed @Lentilweaver, just seen it today on a thread where the OP is saying she can't buy clothes because even size 8s are of enormous clown like proportions on her, because she's normal size and clothes are made for everyone else who are massive heifers.

When she found that this didn't go down particularly well with all others on the thread, suddenly she felt the need to mention that the reason she needs new clothes is due to weight loss caused by illness.

RightOnTheEdge · 24/07/2024 22:32

YANBU. I clicked on a post earlier and it was sooo long and waffley. Loads of paragraphs. I just gave up before they even got to the point, I just couldn't be bothered.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 24/07/2024 22:41

I give up too, especially if the OP is adding imaginary names to letters of the alphabet.

SwedishEdith · 24/07/2024 22:54

I assume AI as written in a women's magazine faux chatty style. I ignore them.

What really pisses me off are enormous thread titles that take over half the page when using your phone.

FiveShelties · 24/07/2024 22:58

People on creative writing courses practising to see who can get the most responses.

MBappse · 24/07/2024 23:00

I have noticed lots too and think it is AI bots posting.

BogRollBOGOF · 24/07/2024 23:08

Definitely an increase in giant wall of text posts, usually lacking in paragraphs and tediously written with poor sentence structure.

I presumed that the abstract use of (F28) or whatever has crept in from some other corner of the internet.
Yet there's the continued pattern of replies ignoring info such as age from the title/ first line and immediately responding with "what's DD's age" to a thread titled something like "is this normal behaviour for a 6yo" Slightly more forgivable by p9 when posters for get or got derailed along the way.

Floatinginatincan · 24/07/2024 23:08

Yes, and even more annoying other posters will quote the whole op. So you have to scroll through the whole thing again!. Unless stated otherwise we know you are replying to the op. Drives me nuts

EileenBilton · 24/07/2024 08:24

It's the Reddit style. Guaranteed 100% fiction.

Totally agree.

You can spot the ones c+p'd from AITA
Especially when it ends with "so, am I the asshole?"

😂 that had never occurred to me, but yeah, possible.

Yes
Always suspicious

Onehotday · 25/07/2024 07:00

Anything is better than the "I will call them person A, person B as I don't want to reveal who I am". They are completely impossible to follow and you can immediately tell who the OP is in the scenario so really pointless too.

Lentilweaver · 25/07/2024 07:02

OP: Blah blah blah unhinged behaviour ridiculous worries AIBU?
Posters unanimously: Yes, you are.
Well, it's because I am neurodivergent. You ableist cunts!

ZenNudist · 25/07/2024 07:09

They are AI generated. I don't know why but its replaced the traditional trolling where someone hand types a bollocks story. You could spot those too. I don't see what people get out of them.

Or when the OP uses 'they' as a way of disguising the sexes of the parties involved and you can't tell how many people are being talked about in the thread.

Of course the thread gets derailed because some people assume that it's a heterosexual couple when it might not be or it's about a money issue and people can't tell if the person being complained about is a financially abusive man or a savvy woman for example.
