Reposted from Preteens due to lack of traction.
I'm a teacher. We finished up for summer on Friday and I let the students draw on the whiteboard. Two ten year old students kept drawing this symbol, can someone explain the meaning?

So is being Therian on the spectrum of wearing a Alice band with cat ears to wearing a tail buttplug to Ikea as per a previous thread?

Not something I would encourage with my kids.

My kid claims to be one - I've checked the internet and unlike the furry community it seems to be about 90% non sexual, wouldn't let my child be a furry because of the prominent sexual side of the community but I'm okay with letting her play around with this new idea of being a "Therian" until she inevitably grows out of it. "Therians" are mostly kids

as a result of this thread I googled therian and found some very weird ideas.

I was vaguely aware of the I-identify-as-an-animal trend but I'd heard about it in the context of it originating from children (older ones obviously) who were mocking transgender self-identification

as in - if it's ok for John to self identify as girl, then I am going to identify as a Dog or a Jedi or something equally daft to make the point that it is ridiculous to say that because you believe you are a dog you are in fact a dog.

I don't know if the two things are related (therian developed out of this) or if they are totally unconnected but from what I've read some of this is closer to a sexual fetish or evidence of a mental health problem than anything else.

It seems there are some people who are just 'yes I feel like my spirit is in fact a squirrel' for whom it makes no real life difference but others who are 'I feel like I am a squirrel. I am meant to be a squirrrel. Nuts for me and living up a tree from now on."

It's mostly teenagers roleplaying.
A phase for 90% of them
