Have you got an airfryer?

I've been sucked in with the reels on Insta, the food always looks quick and amazing.

It would be a sacrifice to find thr space for one, so I'm torn. Do you have one? Is it a fad or do you use it regularly? Any particular recommendations?

We have 2, one normal one and one halogen massive thing. The normal one gets used several times a week and kids normally cook in it if I'm not about, halogen one is just used to do a big joint or if we have a lot of guest, might use more in winter. I would recommend getting bigger than you think your need.

Following with interest. We tell ourselves we don't need one for the kind of food we cook but happy to be proved wrong.

DustyLee123 · 22/07/2024 07:54

Yes, we use it lots. The oven hardly goes on now.

Painauraison · 22/07/2024 07:55

We haven't bothered despite being told by everyone we know that we need one! I think they are big and ugly 🤣 plus we spend a lot on bosch ovens and hob so we just use those. We don't really fry anything and when I've asked people what they cook it in, all I've been told is things that are junk upf that we don't eat but also following with interest to see what people cook! Maybe I'm wrong 🤷‍♀️

Misthios · 22/07/2024 07:55

Yes, a Corsori one. Use it lots for all sorts of things. Oven used a lot less than it used to be!

BigDahliaFan · 22/07/2024 07:55

Following as not convinced….

Coastalcreeksider · 22/07/2024 07:56

I have the Tower 5 in 1, it has three shelves rather than baskets. I use it every day and have only used my large oven around six times since I bought the airfryer back in January.

I'm even thinking of buying another one, maybe a Ninja one but I'm a bit short of room for where to put it, my kitchen is not huge. Still thinking about that one.

If I'd known how good using an airfryer was, I would never have bought an expensive oven when I had the new kitchen put in.

shellyleppard · 22/07/2024 07:57

I have a 8litre (two drawer) one and its an absolute godsend. My teenage sons use it daily. Yes it takes up space but got rid of the cooker completely ask I never use it now. We cook all meals in it from bacon sandwich to a full roast dinner ❤️

Ereyraa · 22/07/2024 07:59

Yes, and I hate to be one of those dicks (oh you MUST get one!) but we use it every day. Our oven is barely used now.

DressDilemma · 22/07/2024 08:00

Yes, I have the Cuisinart one which is very compact and looks like a mini oven. I use it multiple times every day. It can bake, toast, air fry amongst other functions. The main advantage is that I don't need to preheat and the actual cooking time is also less. So I save massively on time.

Ailbhe123 · 22/07/2024 08:01

Yes we have one. It's used multiple times a day (three teenagers). Only use the oven to cook a roast.

Belladone · 22/07/2024 08:01

I’ve had one for about 4 years now, use it every day. I had one before with the draw and I found it limited what I could cook, so I got a tower one with shelves and it’s better. It’s a learning curve but yes it’s brilliant. Did jackets potatoes the other day, big ones 40 minutes at 200 and they were amazing. Oven chips and nuggets yesterday 5 minutes perfect and as for chicken! Mine has a rotisserie but I don’t tend to use it I just pop the chicken in 1.8kg ish for about 70 minutes and it’s amazing. I know you can say an oven doesn’t take much longer, but by the time you’ve heated said oven up and kept that heat for the cooking time your little airfryer is cooking happily on a lot less electricity.

my one draw back about it is I replaced my microwave with it, and I do miss my microwave. I will be really pushed if the airfryer died what I would replace it with

GameOfJones · 22/07/2024 08:02

Yes we love our Ninja Dual air fryer and wouldn't be without it.

Of course it makes great chips and other junk food but that's not what we use it for most of the time.

As it's far quicker and cheaper than the oven it's excellent for doing small things e.g. I cook a part baked bread roll in 5 mins to have with soup for lunch when heating up the oven would feel like a waste. Or for cooking a few spring rolls with a stir fry etc.

Roast chicken is perfect in it and really juicy just cooked straight in one drawer. It takes one hour and I can do something else in the second drawer.

Roast Mediterranean veg is excellent in it. As are jacket potatoes.

I love the sync function so I can cook on separate modes and temperatures in the two drawers and have them automatically ready at the same time.

GiantHornets · 22/07/2024 08:03

Just sold ours, a ninja double one.
We bought it and used it when we had no kitchen due to building work. We were completely unimpressed - everything we cooked tasted fried even without using any oil in the machine. Food didn’t smell appetising, it smelt greasy. It was big and bulky and ugly.

As soon as the proper oven was installed, we used that. Yes it might take slightly longer to cook things but the taste is significantly better.

Zonder · 22/07/2024 08:04

Please can people say what they cook in it. As a pp said, most of what I've heard from friends is that you can do chips, chicken nuggets and those kinds of packet processed things that go in the oven.

ItWasntMyFault · 22/07/2024 08:05

I have two, they're great. I use them for anything I would use the oven for including cakes, roast chicken, jacket potatoes, chips etc

Mrsredlipstick · 22/07/2024 08:06

DH and I bought a Tefal dual drawer as an Easter present to ourselves. I use it everyday. I am a trained cook (not my profession).
I became disabled last year and it means I don't need to bend down. It has been so easy.
Best sausages, small joints, cheese on toast. Chips and saute potatoes. I haven't baked in it but I wouldn't be without it.
Ours is 8l plus. It cooks quicker than a normal oven. The heat is intense and dry. I haven't found a decent cook book yet but I suspect they exist.
Ninja do a family sized one on QVC. Its9L. You can remove the divider so the drawer can take a 2.5 kg of lamb.

User050105 · 22/07/2024 08:06

DH bought one and uses it most days for lunch. But it's too small, it's really only for one person. Cheaper than putting on the oven for one person though. We don't have space for a massive one

You're not meant to cook bacon in an airfryer.

shellyleppard · 22/07/2024 08:10

@HowIrresponsible its been fine in mine. Its cleaned regularly

Which one is it? I'm looking for one for single portions.

lovemycbf · 22/07/2024 08:11

@HowIrresponsible why aren't you supposed to cook bacon? I cook bacon in my air fryer without issue

FriendsDrinkBook · 22/07/2024 08:12

We have one and find it really useful for healthy eating. We do low fat 'roasted' potatoes , fresh chips , sausages and the usual things like breaded chicken. Nuggets are important here as our son is autistic and must have certain foods.

One of the main reasons we find it so useful is as an aid for my husband. He has mobility issues and cannot bend to the oven. The counter level cooking is incredibly useful.

TragicMuse · 22/07/2024 08:13

I use mine a lot.

Roasted veg is good and really fast.

Blistering peppers quickly to take the skins off.

I did some roasted chickpeas and charred broccoli last week for a Buddha bowl thing.

Roast butternut squash for whatever you want to do with squash!

I do chicken pieces quickly, which keeps them juicy.

Our new favourite is new potatoes - 6-7 minutes microwave, 6-7 minutes air fryer and they're crisp and lovely!

My teen uses it for chips but I use it for 'real' cooking when the item is too small to feel like putting the oven on is worth it.

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 22/07/2024 08:14

We declined one that was given to us as a gift. We don't have the room and it doesn't seem to be much quicker than the oven, it also had two drawers so you couldn't get much in each one. I also don't think we would've used it much with the types of food we cook
