What things do you only use pricey versions of? And why?

For me its:
Gym wear: I find it fits better, lasts longer and doesn't get that weird spring onion smell that I can never seem to get out of cheaper stuff.

Shoes: After many years of many thousands of fast fashion pumps and ballet flats, I've started buying expensive shoes. They last, they don't generally leak, and they're comfortable.

Socks: Wider choice of pretty patterns, wash well and don't wear through as quickly as cheaper versions.

Knickers: I've spent too many years in generic, badly fitting, off the shelf under crackers. Now I invest a little bit more in no cross seam boxers. They're not enormously more expensive but my minge and my arse crack are thankful.

Cheese: Cheap cheese these days just tastes like a whole load of nothing so I invest in good, strong cheese that actually tastes of cheese.

Pies: We eat a lot of pie in my house 😬I find supermarket pies bland and not very 'filled'. We spent about £75/month on pricey pies nowadays.

Some alcohol: Some alcohol is definitely better when you throw some cash at it. Wine, mostly. Not all though - I can't tell the difference between Value vodka and expensive stuff. And Tesco Cognac is my absolute favourite even when stacked against very very expensive versions.

Squash: Once you've had Vimto squash (20p per 100ml), there's just no going back to supermarket own (6p per 100ml).

Foundation: Lasts and can actually be blended properly so I don't end up looking like a paint-by-numbers face mask.

What about you?

I can't get over how much pie you eat. You spend nearly £1000 a year on pies. That's absolutely bonkers.

Pie shaming will not be tolerated.

Jo Loves is better than Jo Malone, since that company went to Estée Lauder.

@BBluevelvetsofa I got a Jo Loves advent calendar a few years ago and whilst it was lovely I still prefer Jo Malone.

I forgot to mention Shampoo and Conditioner, I bought Champo on a whim after seeing some reviews, couldn't get on with it at all at first , whinged a bit to the company and they sent me out a different combo which works amazingly. It's low lather, you only need a 5p piece drop. I've had mine over a year and still half full.
Spenny bit worth it.

I need to up my Olive oil game, thought I was buying decent but clearly not, any recceomends are welcome.

My olive oil came from a company in Zakynthos, they said that since Brexit they're unable to export to the UK (possibly due to cost). Such a shame as it's absolutely the best I've tasted.

It's lovely with a bit of fresh bread dipped in it.

I'm making it my mission to go on holiday to Greece just to buy olive oil next year.😂

@faffadoodledo

Le Chameau. That's the brand. They're ace, if spenny.
I gave up on Hunters and other 'British' brands years ago.
Or Aigle. The French do good wellies for some reason

yes it's agile that I have, checked today! Rather than the Le Chameau mentioned, I also have a little hiking boot from agile too, but they don't seem to do them anymore.

Serendipity strikes :-) I'm off to Zakynthos in September and will be hunting down as much as much as I can bring back :-) Thanks for the tip :-)

Fage yoghurt
Most makeup
I don't buy massively expensive ahoes but I don't buy cheap ones from Primark

butterfly0404 · 16/07/2024 17:37

Brilliant, thank you, it's planned into my itinerary :-)

Judellie · 16/07/2024 18:07

Ginger biscuits - has to be Ringtons

BlowDryRat · 15/07/2024 11:18

Chicken and eggs - I buy free range so that an animal doesn't have to live a miserable life just so I can eat it.

Ham, bacon, pork, sausages - ditto. It's RSPCA-assured or something. No Danish cage pigs eaten here.

Notebooks - nice notebooks with lovely thick paper are a pleasure to write in.

Same here but FYI, organic has the best welfare standards

£75/month on pricey pies
Are you Desperate Dan?
Speaking of pies ... my face looks slightly less like a dropped one with Elemis. So there's that.

AlanBrendaCelia · 16/07/2024 19:33

I detect a lot of pie-envy on this thread.

Limth · 17/07/2024 10:48

@AlanBrendaCelia So much pie envy. And judgement. And a lack of pie-conomics.

Butter. Isigny st mere I think it's called, I get it from Costco. I also love cultured butter and occasionally buy that from a farm in Devon by the kilo. It totally elevates everything.

Tinned tomatoes. Napolina for sauce based things like chili/bolognese/ curry but if I'm making a pizza it has to be Mutti polpa. The taste in just divine.

Bath oil. Ren rose oil and dry body oil. Recommend on here and
i loooove it.

Fairy liquid. Nothing else is as good .

Blue cap vimto or a good quality high juice. Occasionally I'll have Ribena but I can't stand cheap chemical tasting cordial.

Darjeeling , buy for my husband from Ahmad tea I think it is. He likes a specific flush, I think it's st Margaret's so that is on repeat order for him. Every month as is what he drinks in the afternoons and evenings.

Olive oil. Not for cooking as olive oil isn't heat stable but for bread and drizzling . I buy Loukakos evoo single estate and decant it into smaller bottles and store it in the dark.

Bedding. I love high thread count pure cotton bedding. Minimum 800tc. I also love a high loft feather pillow. Find some great ones in TK maxx
