What things do you only use pricey versions of? And why?

For me its:
Gym wear: I find it fits better, lasts longer and doesn't get that weird spring onion smell that I can never seem to get out of cheaper stuff.

Shoes: After many years of many thousands of fast fashion pumps and ballet flats, I've started buying expensive shoes. They last, they don't generally leak, and they're comfortable.

Socks: Wider choice of pretty patterns, wash well and don't wear through as quickly as cheaper versions.

Knickers: I've spent too many years in generic, badly fitting, off the shelf under crackers. Now I invest a little bit more in no cross seam boxers. They're not enormously more expensive but my minge and my arse crack are thankful.

Cheese: Cheap cheese these days just tastes like a whole load of nothing so I invest in good, strong cheese that actually tastes of cheese.

Pies: We eat a lot of pie in my house 😬I find supermarket pies bland and not very 'filled'. We spent about £75/month on pricey pies nowadays.

Some alcohol: Some alcohol is definitely better when you throw some cash at it. Wine, mostly. Not all though - I can't tell the difference between Value vodka and expensive stuff. And Tesco Cognac is my absolute favourite even when stacked against very very expensive versions.

Squash: Once you've had Vimto squash (20p per 100ml), there's just no going back to supermarket own (6p per 100ml).

Foundation: Lasts and can actually be blended properly so I don't end up looking like a paint-by-numbers face mask.

What about you?

Still can’t get past the £75 per month on pie! But as a PP said - bin bags. Scrimping on them just isn’t worth the pain of the arse falling through the cheap ones.
Eggs- organic
I’ve no coffee loyalty but do tend to spend more on the fancier more pretentious ones!

AlanBrendaCelia · 15/07/2024 23:02

Toilet roll.

having read this, I’ve added Beast bin bags to my shopping list.

@Limth Where does one find 100% cotton, 1000 thread count bedding?

Crikeyalmighty · 15/07/2024 23:08

@LoobyDoop2 my H swears by Waitrose or M&S clementine juice - first world issues I know- but not that pricey!

NannyGythaOgg · 15/07/2024 23:14

Not much as I am on a limited income
BUT
Proper aged balsamic vinegar is so so different from the cheap stuff.

Femme2804 · 16/07/2024 00:13

Mostly anything. Money never lies 😂 quality never lies.

gym wear - it fit better
clothing - good quality fabric the cutting its better
bags - good leather choices and craftmanship
appliances
shoes

car - more comfortable with lots of extra add on that normal car doesn’t have (heated steering wheels, heated and massage driver seat, etc)

ItsOnlyJustBegun · 16/07/2024 00:23

Silk filled duvet
M&S loose leaf Extra Strong Tea… better than Yorkshire Tea (just!

wellies, I buy some ridiculously priced French wellies, I forget the brand but they’re so comfy, last ages and don’t hurt my feet compared to various cheaper ones I’ve tried.

Me too. Le Chameau, (as seen on the Princess of Wales 😅)

They’re so soft and you can actually walk in them. So worth the price.

Catnipcupcakes · 16/07/2024 00:38

Foundation - Chanel Sublimage.

Tomato Ketchup - Wilkinsons Tiptree

Wellies - Le Chameau

Coats - C&R, North Face and Harris Tweed - I only had my size 18 older sister’s cheap cast off market stall anoraks when I was a kid so ‘good’ coats are now non negotiable.

On the other hand I like cheap ‘kiddy’ pizzas, cheap colour make up, and I make all my own dresses and nightwear. I like to think it balances it out! (It doesn’t.)

Bearybasket · 16/07/2024 00:54

Not a specific product but now that I can afford to I avoid shopping at chains store or dining at chain restaurants/cafes unless I absolutely have to.

@Limth If you want the best pie of your life order from Lochinver Larder. I make a point of taking at least one weekend a year to drive up to Lochinver specifically to go to it but they also have a website and deliver anywhere on the Uk mainland

CaliforniaChill · 16/07/2024 02:57

Tomatoes - I can’t stand cheap tomatoes. I like to pick them up and inhale, and if they don’t have a deep velvety smell, I’m not buying them. I’m prepared to drop £7 or more on a punnet of decent ones. Aldi do good tomatoes.

Olive oil - I used to buy what I thought was good stuff. Then I read the only decent olive oil is from olives grown on volcanic soil, harvested in October and processed within a couple of hours. Not the mass produced shite we’ve been made to believe is good for us.
So, DH bought some. Not going to say how much it was a bottle, but I pour it on my salad and feel like I’ve been to a health farm for a week after I’ve eaten.

Yes, good gym gear and trainers

Good holidays. I’d rather stay in all year, and blow all my money on a good holiday. See user name.

Please can you let me knownwhich brand of organic shampoo and condition you use?

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 16/07/2024 08:05

Food that I use a lot, tastes better than the rest
Yorkshire Teabags
Marmite

Reliable, well made, high performing outdoor and sports wear, fits me well, lasts well
Muckboots
Patagonia/Marmot/Arkteryx etc fleeces and waterproofs
Speedo swimwear
Scarpa walking boots
Keen sandals

Gymmum82 · 16/07/2024 08:08

I excitedly splurged on 2 pairs of sweaty Betty leggings some months ago. They were AWFUL. Completely see through. Could almost see my arse crack through them when I squatted certainly not squat proof.
So I’m back to gymshark and ryderwear for gym leggings even though some are hit and miss in terms of squat proofing

malakkalakka · 16/07/2024 08:11

I can't get over how much pie you eat. You spend nearly £1000 a year on pies. That's absolutely bonkers.

butterfly0404 · 16/07/2024 08:34

I forgot to mention Shampoo and Conditioner, I bought Champo on a whim after seeing some reviews, couldn't get on with it at all at first , whinged a bit to the company and they sent me out a different combo which works amazingly. It's low lather, you only need a 5p piece drop. I've had mine over a year and still half full.
Spenny bit worth it.

I need to up my Olive oil game, thought I was buying decent but clearly not, any recceomends are welcome.

GettingStuffed · 16/07/2024 08:41

Nellieinthebarn · 15/07/2024 11:04

I'm usually fine with own brands, but only buy real Marmite, the generic yeast extracts and Vegemite just don't taste the same. I have virtually no brand loyalty to anything else.

Me too. The closest I've found for taste Is Lidl but the texture is all wrong.

westisbest1982 · 16/07/2024 08:50

Tech, specifically Apple devices which are reliable, easy and enjoyable to use, and if I have a problem I can pop into a store and get it resolved that day.

McVitie's Digestives. I've tried all the other versions but none have that same balance of the malty and sweet flavours, although the ones from M&S come close.

Agree on Bold washing tablets / capsules and Herschel bags.

NippyCrab · 16/07/2024 08:51

Number one is good poo bags lol, a hole in the shite bag day is not fun.

Pasta and rice, I love my pasta and gungy cheap stuff is nope. I save the cheap rice for dogs upset tummies.

Meat in general, red meat, chicken, fish, I mostly go to the butchers or fishmonger.

Coffee, I'm very picky with mine.

As a PP said I'd rather go without than compromise on certain things, especially foods.

Bluevelvetsofa · 16/07/2024 09:10

Jo Loves is better than Jo Malone, since that company went to Estée Lauder.

palomatoast · 16/07/2024 09:36

I'm a real tight arse but have now been converted to proper polarising sunglasses, nice wine, Patagonia outdoors wear, linen shirts/trousers and gold jewellery. I also have a pair of waterproof leather walking boots that I think are the best thing I've ever bought.

I use this brand. It is available from other online beauty stockists. I've used the smoothing version and the frequent use. They smell amazing.

Expensive, but only a small amount needed and I now only was my hair every 5 days.

I'm sure your own natrual oils are essential to healthy hair, rather than harsh chemicals which strip these out, only for us to have to coat our hair in different chemicals to replace the ones we've lost…🤔😵‍💫
