Poss party locations in York

My DN is turning 21 soon and so we are looking for possible venues in York to throw a surprise party. Any suggestions? We don't live nearby so can't go and check out for ourselves... TIA 🙏

@cringedqueen why York ? Genuine question

cringedqueen · 14/07/2024 10:35

@Shybutrude but that is where they are at uni (probably should have said that, sorry!)

@cringedqueen Then you're daughter should know the places she likes, York has so many bars, hotels, working mens clubs /hospital clubs. You haven't put enough information what do you want to spend? Roughly when? Will you need accommodation? Have you factored in events happening in York eg the races? As taxis prices go up etc

Shybutrude · 14/07/2024 10:42

@cringedqueen I'm not trying to be difficult but there are so many factors to consider. is it a whole family party with great grandma and younger children ? Is it just immediate family? Etc etc etc

Shybutrude · 14/07/2024 10:44

@cringedqueen Niece or nephew not daughter apologies.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts @Shybutrude

At this point I am looking for suggestions from the wider public for a location to hold an event. I understand there are lots of venues in York, which is why I am asking for recommendations...

Hopefully, (if people are willing to share suggestions as requested) we will have a list of suggestions, which we can fine tune and take it from there.

There are absolutely shedloads of options, which is why the PP is asking for more details, so they can offer you the most appropriate ones! And indication of budget is hugely helpful.

Shybutrude · 14/07/2024 10:51

@cringedqueen I thought you wanted help from the "wider public" ..... I was trying to get some information to see what would work but I'm out , I can't be bothered if you can't be bothered to fill any of the gaps

cringedqueen · 14/07/2024 11:51

Wow. sorry that you have felt I was rude @Shybutrude , I genuinely wasn't being! And I did say thank you for your thoughts, they were valid.

At this point I don't know. I was just asked if I had ideas and so I posted here. We are all quite far away from York so it's tricky. DB has now said about 30 people. No idea of budget yet, which was why I didn't say anything. But they are not struggling to make ends meet, so could consider all options.

I shall google. Less chance of offending google!BlushGrin

@cringedqueen yes you were rude and dismissive even in your faux apology .
Enjoy Google

Hi The Grange on Bootham has function rooms, very nice, might be pricey. The Picture and Piano Coney Street by the river has a function room. We had a big family meal in a separate room at Lucias in Grape Lane.
Hope that helps 😊

juliettesmother · 14/07/2024 12:05

Ignore the professionally offended OP!

ASK Italian at the Assembly Rooms could work?

Shybutrude · 14/07/2024 12:12

@juliettesmother nice choice 🤣 cheap chain restaurant. The ops family "aren't struggling for money"
Also "professionally offended' 👍

Doubleraspberry · 14/07/2024 12:12

So I’d avoid the Pitcher and Piano as it’s bang in the middle of the stag/hen part of town, unless the event will be at a quiet time.

There are some lovely hotels in the centre that will all have function rooms that they might want to look at, if the event is going to be fairly ‘formal’, ie suitable for granny etc.

DickEmery · 14/07/2024 12:14

Tang Hall Working Men's Club

Doubleraspberry · 14/07/2024 12:16

My favourite place for a party! I was tempted to suggest it myself. Also close to the university campus and student area. 😃

SirChenjins · 14/07/2024 12:18

Not sure how formal you’re looking for but Middlethorpe Hall is a couple of miles from York and was lovely when we stayed there.

cringedqueen · 14/07/2024 12:19

Thank you for all of the suggestions!!! It is much appreciated!!! 🤩🤩🤩

@cringcringedqueen This link gives you the best 15 places in York, which include apartments and hotels in York for do's.

You can choose what's best for you depending on what you want. All are good (I live here). Just all simply on one website

😁
Well it would't be boring

PeppermintParty · 14/07/2024 12:42

I would say it also depends on who the party guests are going to be, It is one thing if it is grandma and granddad and aunts and uncles. Somewhere totally different if it is going to be a load of uni mates invited.

Doubleraspberry · 14/07/2024 12:47

I’d personally look at a few other options than that website. There are nicer hotels out there. And again, avoiding the hen/stag night stuff does matter as the city is beautiful but not very nice if you end up caught up in all that.
