I orded something from vinted . I asked if they could let me know when they post as I'm hoping to get the item in time for a birthday gift . They replied they normally do that once they have taken a photo and dispatched

I feel confused about the reply because i asked when it would be posted . And they replied they do this when a photo is taken and dispatched. But does dispatched and posted not mean the same thing.

Also the delivery cost was 10.00 so I was hoping it would be a good service.

Vinted say they dont have to sent till 15th so there's no rules broken .

I know this is not the point of the thread but that’s hugely unusual. So you’ve never bought something online and queued at the post office / Evri counter to return it? You’ve never sent someone a Christmas gift in the post?

No not at all . If I buy a gift it's normally on amazon and all I do is change the address.

The seller gives you the postage options they can offer and you choose which one you prefer/convenient to you. The cost will depend on the size of the package and the service chosen. In my experience when selling the nearest I-post lockers are quite often full, so that can delay posting in it's self.

Back21970 · 13/07/2024 12:15

Message them to ask them to do it as soon as they can as it’s a gift, I sell on Vinted and I generally wait till I’ve a couple of things but if I knew someone was in a hurry I would do my best to get it away quickly.

What postal service was it that cost £10? That should be next day delivery I would think, my postage is never more than a few pounds.

Dodappydah · 13/07/2024 12:16

As a long time seller on vinted I never message to say it's been posted as the automatic system does that for you once you have dropped the item off, this can take a few hours or so do automatically do so there is a window in which a seller could drop the item off and you could technically still cancel your purchase which has happened to me when I first told someone I had sent the item before vinted had automatically done it for me. I was left with no payment and no item and vinted said they could do nothing to help.

obsessedwithfreshbread · 13/07/2024 12:16

I sell a fair bit on Vinted but I usually only post on a Friday, so if you buy on Monday it is a bit of a wait
Plus the cost of postage is nothing to do with speed, the seller doesn't get the postage

BowlOfNoodles · 13/07/2024 12:18

It's best to ask before buying tbf

Parrotseatthemall · 13/07/2024 12:20

As said Vinted is different to the likes of Amazon. Vinted is mainly people selling their own stuff secondhand to make a few quid and have to juggle their Vinted sales with their everyday life their timescales reflect this. Amazon is a major corporation. Vinted is not great if you want something urgently, Amazon Prime is

I already done that .

And actually the next day thing may make sense in a way. It could be they know I Nedd it by x day they might post a few items at a time knowing it gets delivered the next day so still in time for that date

That's awful it sounds like a bad loophole within vinted . I would never just council though without contacted the seller first

I'm so annoyed when people buy and then message afterwards saying 'post it today' or say they needed it posted quickly.
That's something that should be checked before purchasing.

Very cheeky!

GanninHyem · 13/07/2024 12:35

Well you mentioned you bought gifts usually from Amazon so it’s not out of the realm people will
mention it especially when you’re complaining about the standard terms of service regarding posting for Vinted. that poster was simply saying if you need expedited postage you need to use a service that provides that option.

if it doesn’t come in time just print or make a little letter : poster type thing with an iou

I bought from vinted because I could not afford to buy new.

I feel like a week to post is a long time. Maybe I'm wrong though. I have never posted a parcel in my life so I'm not sure how it all works .

That's not the sellers problem though if you couldn't afford to buy new. You're basically saying you want a shop service but you can't afford to buy from a shop, so you're expecting a private individual to fill the gap between what you want and what you can afford. Life doesn't work like that. £10 isn't much. A box/bag can be £3 easily and postal charges can be high depending on service used, £7 wouldn't necessarily get you much size/weight allowance. Shops offer a premium service for eg £10 and a cheaper standard service because they're sucking up the postal charges themselves or they're getting a good deal from the courier because they're posting out 2000 items per day. Private individual selling second hand items isn't making a profit like a shop, they're making a loss, so they're not going to want to suck up the postal charges on top of that.

I'm showing my age here but I remember the days when anything bought mail order usually had 'please allow 28 days for delivery' clause

I think you have got confused. Someone asked me why have I never ever posted a parcel before have I never bought gifts etc I said I have but via amazon and all I dud was change address. This was to answer the question I was asked. Nothing to do with vinted

The thing with Vinted is it’s private individuals selling not a business so you can expect a business fast service. The rules of Vinted allow sellers to post within 5 working days. So your seller is t doing anything wrong,

That’s just standard. Everyone selling on Vinted has a week to post.

BigPussyEnergy · 13/07/2024 13:00

Sounds like you don’t understand how Vinted works or how postage works or how other people’s lives work.

Maybe stick to Amazon as you know where you are with that.

CrispieCake · 13/07/2024 13:03

When I sell on Vinted, I'm normally selling something for a few pounds so will send whenever is convenient for me within the timescale. If I had a polite request asking for it asap, I'd try to send earlier if I didn't have to go hugely out of my way. But I'm not making a special trip out for the sake of £3. I have a life, job, children, stuff to do.

RaininSummer · 13/07/2024 13:05

I can only post things on Saturdays so have to make this known in the listing.

JamSlags · 13/07/2024 13:05

I think anyone who says ‘I ordered something from Vinted’ is going to be disappointed. You didn’t; you bought something (probably secondhand) off a person who sells on Vinted. You’ve no idea what condition it will really be in when it arrives, and sellers have up to a week to post.

Skinnydoublecrochet · 13/07/2024 13:42

The buyer chooses postage options and the seller doesn’t receive the money for shipping!
