I orded something from vinted . I asked if they could let me know when they post as I'm hoping to get the item in time for a birthday gift . They replied they normally do that once they have taken a photo and dispatched

I feel confused about the reply because i asked when it would be posted . And they replied they do this when a photo is taken and dispatched. But does dispatched and posted not mean the same thing.

Also the delivery cost was 10.00 so I was hoping it would be a good service.

Vinted say they dont have to sent till 15th so there's no rules broken .

The buyer chooses postage options and the seller doesn’t receive the money for shipping!

I wasn't given an opinion. What do you mean seller does not get money for shipping? I'm paying 10.00 for the shipping

If I sell something on Vinted I get a shipping label!! I don’t get the shipping cost!
I only get the price of item!

SerenityNowInsanityLater · 13/07/2024 13:57

£10 seems really excessive for Vinted. What size is the parcel and are you both using in post as your service?

Princessfluffy · 13/07/2024 13:59

The rules of Vinted can be annoying and frustrating.

Sellers have 5 working days to post so buyers can't expect anything faster than this.

If you want something faster you are taking a risk and the best thing to do is to ask for the posting date before you buy.

airballoon · 13/07/2024 14:04

5 days is a long time, but is allowed on Vinted. IME, most people post promptly though. I only had one that took so long - I imagine she missed the notification that someone bought anything and Vinted prompted her to post on the last day.

Anyway, just message the person and see when they can post soonest and if not soon enough for you, you can suggest the transaction is cancelled.

With Vinted (the majority) of postage options provide the seller with a printable label / QR drop off code, and the amount paid remains with Vinted to pay the carrier service (probably at a bulk contract rate)

If a Royal Mail option is selected then the postage amount is paid to the seller for them to purchase postage

The amount of postage charged by Vinted is dictated by the category that the item had been listed in and the buyer selecting small, medium or large.
The specifics of what that small, medium, large covers in size & compensation can vary based on what would be expected in those categories.

Buying things on vinted is painfully slow - I do sometimes mentioned to the seller I'm going on holiday so I'd appreciate it if they were able to post it as soon as possible and so far I've always got those things in time.

BUT - please can you try and post a parcel, I can't believe you've never done it, have you ever sent an email? Or booked a holiday online? What other things have you managed to avoid? Sad that all your friends and family get their gifts from you from direct Amazon, that is so ridiculously low-effort! Once or twice, fine, but consistently? Why don't you just sent up a bank transfer once a year?

Skinnydoublecrochet · 13/07/2024 14:13

If the buyer chooses Royal Mail I had to pay the postage myself! Then the buyer didn’t press received and let it time out. Took nearly a month to receive my postage and the £1 I sold the item for.
I had photo proof of them receiving!
After that switched Royal Mail off!!

I would have interpreted your message as asking them to contact you once they actually drop off, as opposed to letting you know when they plan to drop off.
…… and for their reply I’d interpret that as “Yes, I will - I usually take a photo and let the buyer know”

As you’ve mentioned that it’s a present which you hope to get in time, then as they haven’t said anything else that they would aim to do so ‘promptly’
Did you tell them when you need it? If so then the lack of any other timing info may mean that they intend to send in time

……..

When I send I take photos of the package, ideally just before dropping off, and I also take a photo of the tracking receipt.
In the past I may send those in messages as confirmation to the buyer that it’s on the way, but current tracking online covers that.
If a buyer has contacted with urgency then I’ll probably message with confirmation as that would notify them quicker than the system

I don’t usually send the package photos and keep them in case there are any issues - but the last time a package was missing I hadn’t taken a photo so just gave a description (for the carriers to know what they were looking for in the system)

I know this is not the point of the thread but that’s hugely unusual. So you’ve never bought something online and queued at the post office / Evri counter to return it? You’ve never sent someone a Christmas gift in the post?

I've never done either of those things to be fair. Anything I return I get collected and if I wanted to send something to someone I would do it directly

Oh sorry. I think I misunderstood. I thought you were saying you thought that I thought the seller could make money from the postage. I pay for the item plus the cost of postage. That's normal

The only people I get gifts for are my kids dad. We are separated. And the kids nan on the ex side. I don't hate them or anything but I also don't love them enough to put an effort in.

I have never been on holiday as an adult. Anyway that nothing to do with posting a parcel 😅

I don't understand the bank transfer comment?

I buy regularly on Vinted, I think the seller meant she will message you a pic of the postage label and parcel as " proof" you will get an email to say it is on the way.
£10 is a lot though so I'm assuming it's a heavy item despatched by Royal Mail
A quicker option is to select InPost and collect( if within a large parcel dimensions)

You always pay for the postage on vinted regardless the method... It's just that the money for postage goes to the shipping company via vinted directly, not to the seller.

Skinnydoublecrochet · 13/07/2024 15:22

I wasn’t clear, I was the seller. The buyer chose Royal Mail. As Royal Mail isn’t included. You the seller have to pay for it then are you refunded once everything is ok.
It’s not like Ervi or Yodel or Inpost . Which you receive the shipping label.
You the seller pay for postage ( the buyer has bought)
Doesn’t matter anymore, because I was selling my stuff for £1-2 each and getting are you posting today. Plus the Ervi machine was always broken so I am back to just taking to charity shop

anon2022anon · 13/07/2024 16:18

What postage option is it that cost £10 on Vinted? I've bought a LOT on there and I've never paid that much.
