Greys Anatomy second time round….

I hadn’t fully appreciated Meredith and Cristina’s relationship before. I think I was much more aware of the various romantic relationships first time round which seem so much less significant compared to the friendship on a second viewing. Cristina is leaving and they are dancing it out 😥

I agree. And I also like how they argue and have quite serious fallings out. It'a a friendship that has proper storylines like a romantic relationship would. I also love the speech Meredith gives when telling Owen about Christina not having the abortion, and she talks about her own mother not wanting her, and what it would do to Christina.

Letsgettoit · 12/07/2024 21:24

Yes the friendship has such depth. It’s sad seeing Cristina leave knowing their friendship as it was is over.

I've just finished watching Greys for the 3rd time. There's definitely things I missed first/second time round. I've also changed my opinion on some characters - but I'll never change my dislike of Izzy & Denny 😂

Also on my third re watch. Currently on season 3. I still really dislike Izzy!

I’ve also grown to like Burke more and Derek less.

Agree about Meredith and Cristina. They truly care about each other in the way best friends would and it’s beautiful to see.

Redglitter · 13/07/2024 06:33

I really warmed to Tom this time round. Initially I felt he was just his Ally McBeal character with a white coat. I just didn't like him at all.

I've definitely changed my mind this time. Teddy was such a pitch to him

The one thing that also struck me was how short Mark & Lexies relationship was. They spent more time broken up than together. That wasn't how I remembered it

Still can't stand April.

Still have Miranda & Ben as my favourite couple

Notastalker · 13/07/2024 06:37

Second time around here too. Never was an Izzy fan, or George either. Like derek less, Sloane more. Denny annoys me. Christina is phenomenal.

KaToby · 13/07/2024 07:14

Oooh my specialist subject!

I think I’ve watched it 5 times!

Love Meredith and Cristina, their relationship feels so genuine. Izzy and George were my least favourite from the early seasons, later on it’s Owen and Teddy.
Lexie and Mark were my favourite couple until April and Jackson happened, I know that’s a fairly unpopular opinion but I just love them together!
Amelia is my absolute favourite, I enjoyed private practice because you get a lot of Amelia’s backstory and see her relationship with Addison.

I might have to watch it again now!

That storyline was awful!!

autienotnaughty · 13/07/2024 07:21

I've watched it three times. It was so good in the early days. I wish they had focused more on new interns from around season 12. They have rectified that in the past two seasons and it's so much better.

I think I'm sort of permanently rewatching greys. It's what I put on when I'm ill or sad or stuck for something to do, and I'm always somewhere through it.

I love private practice as well.

Cant accept any Denny hate
Ghost Denny fine but that beautiful hooked up to an LVAD Denny - its Jeffrey Dean Morgan!!!!!

I didn't mind Denny as a character when alive. But it was just such a stupid storyline - she cut his bloody medical equipment 😂😂
Aside from being a batshit plan overall, why not just unplug it.

Same! And now my daughter is old enough she’s started watching it so it’s always on!

Yes This is Us is another favourite. I’ve just started Gilmore Girls on my daughters recommendation and really liking it so far

CelesteCunningham · 13/07/2024 08:11

Meredith and Cristina is one of my favourite relationships on TV. A brilliant depiction of female friendship.

Couldn't give a shit about McDreamy. Grin

Letsgettoit · 13/07/2024 08:51

Lots of similar thoughts here!
i love private practice too.

I’m not really getting April and Jackson but I do remember liking April more as time went in last time round.

Denny and Izzy so annoying. What was Callie doing with George?!

i also like Mark and was surprised at how little time he and Lexi were actually together too.

Cristina is by far my favourite character this time.

its interesting to see how their friendship weathers their different choices and ultimately how it ends with Cristina moving.

Oh I love April and Jackson. Really don’t get why they get so much hate, but both of their characters grew in really sincere ways and they belonged together.

Covetthee · 13/07/2024 09:51

watching greys anatomy first time around as a late teen-20’s girl and then second time around in my mid-late 30’s i see them all in a different light.

derek was a prick (still beautiful though) burke was an insecure controlling idiot.

callie was absolutely a twat when she first came into it, her relationship with George was just weird, also very controlling and jealous. She was better in the middle seasons and then was ruined again with the whole custody storyline

xtina and Meredith forever. I didnt warm to xtina quickly the first time around and loved her in the end but now i can see what a great character she was from the start.

Newuser75 · 13/07/2024 10:14

I am just on watching it for the second time.
The first time I watched it I wasn't too keen on Meredith and cristina and preferred izzie and George.

This time round I really disliked izzie, she was awful to Callie when her and George got together and the whole Denny storyline was ridiculous. I also think she was unfair to Alex.

I still find Meredith a little whiny but I really like cristina. She is an amazing character. I also really like Callie, Arizona and mark!

CelesteCunningham · 13/07/2024 10:16

We're about the same age @Covetthee (well, maybe a small amount of denial on my part there Grin) and I agree about Derek and Burke. It's really weird to me now that Shonda and the rest, who were grown-ups, didn't write him in a more appealing way.

But the twisted sisters have always been the true love story to me.

TheresMillionsSaidGeoffrey · 13/07/2024 10:19

Christina was an amazing character. So unapologetic.

I don’t think they were meant to be appealing, it makes sense of someone like them eg world renowned surgeons to be controlling and would those other traits and think the world revolves around them.

i do LOL though that richard was meant to retire from episode 1 and 20 years later still there!

chilling19 · 13/07/2024 22:58

I'm on my 2nd go. I think Miranda is my favourite, and the relationship between her and Richard is excellent fun.

I really liked Miranda in the early days. Her increased bitterness has made her less likeable in recent series.

Letsgettoit · 14/07/2024 07:59

I liked that they allowed her to be affected by everything. Given being fiercely strong was her thing (although they had always shown her vulnerability) it was probably important she wasn’t “strong” (COVID BLM and the loss of women’s rights/bodily autonomy…)

(I also generally liked how the show tackled issues head on, even though not always perfectly. I wonder how it will be to re watch COVID episodes when I read that part)
