Not me but a relative has been given this option. I think this will be an extremely bad idea, it's been too long.

My aunt went to see my Nan and took loads of photos! And also persuaded her sister to go. My other aunt deeply regretted it and found it very upsetting. First aunt put loads of pressure on to visit both my gps in the funeral home but I refused - I prefer to remember than as they were.

I saw my daughter in the funeral home 4 weeks after death. They had done a brilliant job of the makeup.

Honestly ime it depends on how good an embalmer is. I've seen my Nan and grandad and DHs Nan. DHs Nan was with a different undertaker to my grandparents and she looked shocking. DH made me go in first and asked me how she looked. I think I erm'd for a bit then said okay. Because I couldn't say she didn't and I knew he would come in regardless. Her nose was all crooked and you could badly see the stitching from where they'd closed her mouth.
My grandparents looked lovely on the other hand. Especially my Nan, they had these flickery lights on and it looked like her chest was going up and down, truly like she was fast asleep.
All 3 we saw 3-4 weeks after they'd passed away.
