Does anyone else have this advert with the creepy AI girl advertising lenses?

I feel like it’s currently the only advert on Mumsnet. She follows me into every thread. In over 40 years of choosing glasses and lenses I can honestly say I’ve never chosen a lens by name. Isn’t that the opticians job? 🤷‍♀️

Yes and it's between nearly every post too.

Mojodojocasahous · 11/07/2024 13:52

Hideous. There was a thread about it yesterday too

TheYearOfSmallThings · 11/07/2024 13:54

Yes! I have been wondering what it is that is so creepy about her! Maybe just the fact that an actual child is considered less appealing than an AI one?

But I can definitely picture her lisping prettily "And so you do see? That you have to die?"

Interested in this thread?

Then you might like threads about this subject:

I've got it too!

The thing is, why should I believe an AI picture? That's not even a REAL person wearing the glasses...do the glasses even exist? What do the lenses look like in real life? I'd rather see the real thing than an auto generated picture of what things MIGHT look like!

Throwawayagain1234 · 11/07/2024 13:57

Uncanny valley.

She is annoying, but it makes a change from all the Turkish holidays.

But seriously, haven't you been wondering why everyone is allegedly going to Dalaman? And why Dalaman is almost like heaven? And how eating out can be so cheap in Dalaman?

WilliamsHill · 11/07/2024 14:00

Yes! She looks like one of those living dolls. Mumsnet shouldn’t allow this kind of advertising.

TwinCheeks · 11/07/2024 14:05

@Alocasia Do you know how they work? Wish these had been around in the 90s when I was little, maybe wouldnt have ended up on a minus 7

JanglyBeads · 11/07/2024 14:08

They're made of hundred of tiny hexagonal lenses which train the eye to do the right thing, or something. Worked for my DD too.

feellikeanalien · 11/07/2024 14:08

It's either that or the sandals that I looked at on another thread about a month ago. I didn't like them then and I certainly don't like them now.

StoneTheCrone · 11/07/2024 14:09

I was literally thinking 'oo that's creepy' when I saw your thread.

yes, its the fact that it's AI generated and weird in an 'uncanny valley' way.

I keep looking at thinking 'what's wrong?'

Ineedwinenow · 11/07/2024 14:11

Glad it’s not just me! I get a Megan vibe off her!! stay away from smart technology or she will try to kill you with it Grin

Please mumsnet admin make the new creepy Chucky disappear

DogCanFly · 11/07/2024 14:11

So I now have a banner advert, your photo, and another advert, all in the same page 😂

I have to say it’s an improvement in the recent one showing a young woman with ridiculous duck lips.

StoneTheCrone · 11/07/2024 14:12

Yes, to all the strangely worded Dalaman (Turkey) adverts too. Who comes up with them?

FyodorDForever · 11/07/2024 14:12

@RainbowZebraWarrior @TwinCheeks the technology is actually really good and has been there for years in France.

I was only able to get some here in the UK since a few years ago, too late for DD, she had already reached 6 (like me) but DS whose myopia started just then is stable at 1.5.

We are using Myosmart glasses from Specsavers, you can use glasses or contacts, I think contacts work a bit better but difficult with children younger than 10-11.

Can you possibly get Adguard? - this banishes ads.

See screenshot for adguard {other adblockers are available} they use less data and make for a quieter viewing experience overall.

We were always told as kids that glasses dont make your eyes worse, yet year on year they kept worsening and it did feel that the stronger prescription you got, the worse your eyes got every year. A 6 to a 1.5 is a huge differnence!!!

MavisPennies · 11/07/2024 14:22

Lol, it's following me all through this thread. DD had these & they gave her headaches and made her feel sick.

She's on low dose atropine now which works.

Bonjovispjs · 11/07/2024 14:23

I'd never seen it until I clicked on this thread, now it's there all the time, thanks OP 😜

oakleaffy · 11/07/2024 14:24

Online ads are unwatchable.

They use up tons of data, are distracting and just all round irritating.

There used to be an RSPCA one that showed a Collie dog scratching at the right hand corner of monitor screen repeatedly that was so annoying I had to block it with a piece of card.

Then I was told about adblockers.

For anyone who has issues with jiggling, flashing moving ads, it's an essential.

Online ads have become a lot more obtrusive and 'in your face' in recent years.

Sorry, I wonder if you misunderstood. My DD eyes started with a low myopia and were getting worse until it reached 6, at which point we started the Myosmart lenses and her myopia hasn’t progressed more since.
DS started the Myosmart soon after his myopia started, so around 1, and since wearing the lenses it barely progressed (1 to 1.5) and that was 2y ago.

It doesn’t revert the myopia, just keeps it from progressing.

Ah sorry I confused a prescription of 6 with age 6! It is amazing that it's slowed it down to zero.
