Something beautiful your Mother had…

Mine had a rich green crepe de chine dress from the 70. I do not know exact cut but it was waisted and had floaty cuffed sleeves. All over fabric pattern was swirls like malachite. I do not ever remember her wearing it, but only hanging in the wardrobe. Whether it was for the best, or out fashion? I do remember being fascinated by how the fabric felt - light and airy but with distinct, slightly coarse texture. No idea what happened to it and I do not want to ask, the memory is too special - it was like a glimpse of another life she had before me and chores married life.

Sounds like an Ossie Clark. Wish I'd kept mine instead of dumping them in Oxfam😁

delilabell · 09/07/2024 22:56

My mom's jewellery. All nestled in boxes. I can still smell them now. All on her dressing table. ❤️ thank you op I'd forgotten about this till just.

mrswhiplington · 09/07/2024 22:57

Me.😄

Her grandads glass ornaments for the Christmas tree. Told her I want half when she's deed.

Bright red long, formal evening dress which 'lived' on a mannequin, and moved houses along with the rest of the family. Worn at the firm's Christmas party when my mother was three months gone with me, so the year before they moved abroad.

I wish now that I had kept it, I would have found a reason to wear it at the drop of a hat.

My sister kept the old walnut bureau which I never thought much of but now looks beautiful now in an alcove of her living room.

DontThinkJustDo · 09/07/2024 23:55

Her smile.

Green and yellow ball gown
White and gold ball gown
Blue and black chiffon dress in Dior New Look style, not an actual Dior
Fur evening cape
Feather evening wear headpiece
White and silver evening bag
All from the 1950’s

1940’s crystal tiara
1920’s silk evening stole lined with taffeta

I have the tiara and evening stole now, they were from before she was married and on stage. The stole was originally her Mothers. My sister has the blue and black chiffon dress.

Leather pointed ankle boots with laces. Worn in the late 80s with a long skirt. They were kind of witchy but beautiful.

Loubelle70 · 10/07/2024 06:57

My gran...more like a mum.
She wore kilts and wore tweed perfume....i thought at the time they were so classy lol.

MissyB1 · 10/07/2024 07:00

Her sewing table. Walnut with a lid that opened. Inside was green silk lining with pockets for your cotton reels, needles etc...

Marylou62 · 10/07/2024 07:05

I'm crying reading this.. Mum is in a care home with advanced Alzheimer's and as Dad died last year we had to clear out the house...

A set of 3 beautiful red enamel and gold pens..

Her jewellery.

Her many bottles of Chanel no 5 that my Dad bought her over the years.

Her vast collection of family photos that we loved to look at..(I've just got around to sorting them and copying many of them for my brothers.. I'm probably the only one who knows the history of most of them now..)

Her beautiful sewing basket with many unfinished projects.
All here with me now..

Mum has a beautiful long crushed velvet dress. It is a deep burgundy and the straps are wide at the front and cross at the back, then it skims down and flares from the waist just the right amount. It's probably a modern size 8 and the fit is very unforgiving. I remember her wearing it for her 40th birthday party and she looked incredible. I mentioned it to her when approaching my 40th and she said I could try it on if I liked then we both laughed (then I cried 😆).

My mum had a beautiful green halter neck dress that my grandma had made for her ,it was sea green stripes that merged into other shades of pale green ,perfectly fitting around the bust and flaring from the waist into a pool of fabric round her feet .
Mum and dad were going to a posh do and dad was in his black suit looking so cool . They looked so posh , I think it must have been in about 1976 when long dresses were in .

BIWI · 10/07/2024 19:25

My dad bought my mum some lovely jewellery. Much of which I do have. But the nicest piece was a ring that he bought her, which I had resized to fit me. Not many years later, we were burgled, and it was (amongst other stuff) stolen Sad

JoanChitty · 10/07/2024 19:48

I have all my mum’s jewellery that was made for her by my dad. He was a jeweller at Garrard. I wear her wedding ring on my right hand. I also have her wedding dress, veil and headdress from 1959.
I have her silver belt buckle which dad and I got her when she was made a sister and her nursing badges.
The smell of Blue Grass by Elizabeth Arden always reminds me of mum

RaraRachael · 10/07/2024 19:54

Nothing.

Nellieinthebarn · 10/07/2024 19:59

A green jade bangle, don't know what happened to it.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 10/07/2024 19:59

A gold plated orchid on a necklace

greengreyblue · 10/07/2024 20:00

Her engagement ring. It’s only a topaz but the colour is aquamarine. I wear it now as she’s no longer here.

LizzieBennett73 · 10/07/2024 20:01

When Mum and Dad divorced, Mum gave me her wedding and engagement rings. Since Dad died last year, I wear her engagement ring all the time as I love knowing that Dad chose it for her - and it's a really gorgeous unusual design (very art deco). It makes me feel that he's still close.

Bless Mum, her taste in jewellery is very QVC these days and I'm really hoping that my sister gets it in the will Grin

When I was a teenager I found a trunk full of original Ossie Clark dresses in the loft when I bored during the summer holidays. Tried some on and they were AMAZING. Absolutely divine.

My mum came home and went ballistic. I never saw them again. The spiteful witch threw them out just so I couldn't wear them.

She had amazing fashion sense but was a very troubled woman.

protectoroftherealm · 10/07/2024 20:17

This beautiful dress from the 70s, shame she's tall and I'm vertically challenged!

Skin, nails and hair. I’m lucky to have inherited all three ❤

Slugsandsnailsresidehere · 10/07/2024 20:28

Her smile and dimples. Miss her
