Separators reckons we can tell. Can we?

No picture, but DD's school has a white PE top. Shall we just say that I could tell exactly who separated their whites and who didn't at sports day!

ShutTheFuckUpCakes · 08/07/2024 17:21

I can't post a picture because we don't have this issue, due to not owning any white clothing 🤣

ShutTheFuckUpCakes · 08/07/2024 17:22

Everything we own is either black, leopard/animal print (me), or galaxy print (DS). Amazing at not showing any stains at all.

This is one method!

Unfortunately much of my son's PE kit is white!

I gave up on separating out white school tops once I had a child in white shirts with red sweatshirts, one in yellow shirts with grey sweatshirts, and one in light blue with royal. Chuck 'em all in, I say, and let happen what will.

Topseyt123 · 08/07/2024 17:28

I'm not in the habit of photographing my laundry. Plus I don't really give much of a crap anyway.

I don't separate except if someone has just got something new and dark from Primark, when I find that colour run is an issue for the first dozen washes.

Otherwise, everything mixed and on 40⁰.

Seeline · 08/07/2024 17:30

My son is a great believer in color catchers.
His t shirts are definitely grey when viewed next to my husbands work shirts and my aging bras.

JellyBabiesSaveLives · 08/07/2024 17:30

It's not so much that we think you can't tell, and more that we don't care whether you can tell (and are quite surprised that you're even thinking about it, tbh).

JaninaDuszejko · 08/07/2024 17:35

DD1 has a pair of red pants that likes to hide in white washes and make everything pink, they even stained some light blue jeans during a darks wash 😱. I'm not going to buy DS a new PE t-shirt just because his current one isn't pristine white, he's got 2 weeks left of primary school. I absolutely know you can tell the difference, I can as well (as a lights and darks separator), but I don't care.

Getonwitit · 08/07/2024 18:00

Can't imagine why anyone would wear manky whites. Just buy Napisan.

BishyBarnyBee · 08/07/2024 18:01

Don't buy whites unless you absolutely have to. Problem solved.

Same, I gave up on white clothing years ago, so no issues whatsoever!

Can’t see the point of purposefully giving myself another job to do.

combinationpadlock · 08/07/2024 18:03

who cares?

Icanwalkintheroom · 08/07/2024 18:04

You can always tell.

But I care, so I separate my whites. If someone doesn’t care, therefore doesn’t separate, I couldn’t care less what their whites look like. I don’t have to wear them.

IceCreamWoes · 08/07/2024 18:04

Isn't the point that we don't care rather than I think you can't tell? I only have white school shirts for my 5 year old and they are fine, not grey, more off white 😂 good enough.

I've had to lower my standards as a single mum working full time that just tries to get through the day and don't care enough to increase washing loads.

combinationpadlock · 08/07/2024 18:03

who cares?

People who care about their appearance.

BeaSure · 08/07/2024 18:07

The premise of your thread is flawed because those of us who can't be bothered to separate our whites also can't be bothered to get off our backsides, walk to the wardrobe, take a photo and post it.

Geiyotue · 08/07/2024 18:14

How is it a test if only non separators post? Surely everyone is just going to say "eugh manky grey" no matter what they look like?

TeeBee · 08/07/2024 18:24

I separate mine and they still come out grey, so you can't always tell. Not that I give a shiny shit about those judging other people's washing. I'd assume they don't have much of a life.

FusionChefGeoff · 08/07/2024 18:26

I separate my whites and they still look shit!

OnAndOnAndonAgain · 08/07/2024 18:27

The only whites here are the kids school shirts. I always separate them, I'm not going to send my kids into school in off white looking shirts.

GoingRoundInTriangularCircles · 08/07/2024 18:29

Some kids at dc school have very very discolored white polo's. I'm far too fussy even a bit off white I wouldn't let them wear.

Dcs at different schools so we have
White polo's
Blue polo's
Red jumpers
Navy cardigans
Black trousers
Navy skirts
Yellow pe tops
White pe tops

It's no effort to wash separately

Laiste · 08/07/2024 18:30

Surely this is market research for Persil or something, no?

I have 4 different wash types. Whites, wool + bras, me and DH, kids pale clothes. We have loads of white clothes. I'm a bit anal about keeping them nice Blush

TigerOnTour · 08/07/2024 18:30

My whites all have baked bean stains down them. Even when I separate them and use whitener in each wash.
