Believe it or not, it’s possible to enjoy sports day

I do not believe it is possible to enjoy sports day.

ForGreyKoala · 08/07/2024 22:09

I can't be bothered, but can tell you that once my step-mother saw some white clothing on my line and remarked how lovely it was to see whites which were actually white. That's good enough for me, and will have to be good enough for you!

I wash my whites with light coloured clothing.

123dogdog · 08/07/2024 22:09

I have never separated clothes by colour for the wash. I separate by what goes on easy care 30 (doesn’t go in dryer) and on easy care 40 (does go in dryer).

It's not so much that we think you can't tell, and more that we don't care whether you can tell (and are quite surprised that you're even thinking about it, tbh).

This 👍

I wash my grandchildrens white stuff because
A. My son in law is of the "bung it all in" brigade and their shirts and socks go grey, and my granddaughter notices.
B. I've got enough white and pale stuff to make a load every week.
C. I'm on year 3 of washing the school shirts AND THEY'RE STILL WHITE!

ForGreyKoala · 08/07/2024 22:13

Skykidsspy · 08/07/2024 21:27

Do you mean just whites? I just do a lights wash and dark/brights wash. I don’t think I’d have enough of just white stuff!

Exactly. I'm not putting on a special wash for one white tee shirt. Some people don't seem to have enough to occupy their minds.

What do the white seaparaters do about say white and blue striped shirt. Or gingham dress or other mixed things?

I to pure white, mixed white and colour + pale colours, everything else.

Coldia · 08/07/2024 22:20

These are my whites

I'm better than you. My whites are whiter than yours

Boo hoo
I don't give a fuck

Catsmere · 08/07/2024 22:32

Only whites I have are a skivvy and a singlet and the motif part of a jumper I knitted. The first two certainly aren't getting their own wash and don't need it - I've never had colours run. The jumper is charcoal and white yarn and also comes up fine. What are all the separators doing to their clothes that makes colours run if they don't separate them?

ETA I like the assumption that photos of the clothes are going to be accurate. The colour accuracy of my iPad is dire and the phone's isn't much better.

ThatTimeIKnewFamousPeople · 08/07/2024 22:35

Hey women, here's a pointless task to occupy your hands and minds instead of taking on the patriarchy (or just drinking wine in front of the telly, both are valid uses of precious spare time)

NO ONE CARES ABOUT YOUR WHITES AND IF YOU DO YOU SHOULDN'T

The sweet sound of a nail being hit on the head never tires.

distinctpossibility · 08/07/2024 22:39

Off white laundry?! But what will people think!

Eerr hopefully just that I can't be arsed to seperate my whites. Literally could not give less of a fuck.

QueryA · 08/07/2024 22:48

We are a family of 6 so have a lot of laundry. I sort. Categories are:
whites( sheets towels shirts underwear all in together)
pastels
brights
blacks
blues/navy

the only reason I separate blue/navy is it’s part of the school uniform. I used to do a red wash as that was their primary uniform. The occasional red/pink gets lumped I. With the brights now.

I think I’m the Monica Geller of the washing world. Party I just like sorting stuff, partly it’s because I have so much washing I can sort.

PS I can tell people who sort their whites 🙂

Mansionscoldandgrey · 08/07/2024 22:53

I hand-wash mine using holy water

Always separate my whites. I make ‘sock soup’ every Saturday; soak my whites (mostly DCs socks) in Astonish overnight then a good, long wash on Sunday. It’s a small joy.

I do a mixed/white colours wash.

A white and blue stripe isn’t white. Only things that are purely white go in the white wash.

RagzRebooted · 08/07/2024 22:59

I bought all white bedding to make washing that easier and it has the added bonus of meaning I always have enough whites for a whites wash, so I actually do separate them these days.

Endsofbells · 08/07/2024 23:04

IWishIWasABaller · 08/07/2024 20:07

I'm a big separator! White and lights , darks , colours , towels , wool/knit and always wash yellow clothes separately too. Just something I've always done and I am sad enough to enjoy it 😄

Same. I even have separate baskets for them. Am I fuck posting pictures though 😂

Sethera · 08/07/2024 23:09

These are a couple of my white t-shirts:

I separate lights, including whites, and darks. I also use bio powder. My colours stay nice. Very sad at work today to see a colleagues new pale pink top looking sad and grey tinged. It could so easily have been avoided.

RampantIvy · 08/07/2024 23:51

Psspsspssssss · 08/07/2024 22:01

You do realise that there are other light colours, not white and actually white isn't even scientifically a colour?

I wear a lot of light colours (blues, pinks, greens) never been stained by being in with darker clothes.

No white though - it shows the slightest hint of stain.

Pale colours don't suit me. I wear white or jewel colours.

RampantIvy · 08/07/2024 23:57

A lot of the posters on this thread makes it sound that it is a moral failing to separate washing.

It isn't as if it takes very much longer to separates whites and lights out from the dark clothes to put a wash on - 10 or 20 seconds maybe.

CoalTit · 09/07/2024 00:32

Until I discovered Mumsnet I had no idea that there were people who felt so strongly about the whiteness of clothes. I remember a poster saying she felt sorry for the schoolchildren whose shirts weren't as white as they should be. That was a revelation to me.
I think it's like being tolerant to high levels of capsaicin or alcohol. The enjoyment and satisfaction you get out of it is a good thing, but only up to the point when you get competitive about it. When you belittle other people for not being as good at bleaching whites/eating spicy food/drinking as you are, you're just obnoxious.
