If you’re quite short, what car do you drive?

I’m looking at getting a little run around car for me as I just can’t drive the Toyota we have as I just can’t see out of it, no matter how much I adjust the seat / use a cushion. I’m only 4ft 11 and just want something small and economical that I can see out of! Any recommendations?

I drive a fiesta. Gutted they stopped making them.
Seats are height adjustable as is the steering wheel.
4ft 10 so some cars are impossible.

Learnt in an old corsa which was great but don't know what the new ones are like.
Had an Audi A3 as a courtesy car and that was good too.

Has anyone tried the puma? What's that like for shirt people?

MrsAvocet · 07/07/2024 00:03

Not the sort of car you're looking for but I'm 5ft0 and drive a Skoda Kodiaq. I've had biggish cars for many years now and found that they tend to have more adjustment and thus be easier for me to drive than the small cars I had when I first learned to drive.

4ft11 here 👋🫡 I drive a Vauxhall Corsa (old car was also old manual Corsa, current one is automatic newer one) and found good. I learnt to drive in a Fiesta from memory find Corsa preferable but got on okay with Fiesta as well.

Psspsspssssss · 07/07/2024 00:08

toyota yaris
i hear honda jazz pretty good too
im 5'1 so only 2 inches taller than you

ForestAtTheSea · 07/07/2024 00:17

In some cars it used to be possible to have a mechanic elongate the foot pedals. This needs to be done in agreement with car safety regulations, though. It helps with having more distance to the front window. I knew someone who did this many years ago, so I don't know about newer models, unfortunately. Just adding this as another option.

I'm 5ft 1in, I've driven lots of cars over the years but my favourites to drive have been Skoda Octavia, VW Touran, Mini, Fiat 500, Ford Ka, Fiat Punto, Renault Clio & Suzuki Swift.
Despite being quite big cars, the Octavia & the Touran have been great - the seats are easily adjustable (both raise in height) you can also adjust the steering wheel to lower it so it's not higher than the dashboard allowing for better visibility. Also, whilst I may be 3in taller, my height is mainly in my torso, I have very short legs (if that helps at all)

tootootdriver · 07/07/2024 00:18

Mini

Violetandgreen · 07/07/2024 00:19

I think it can depend on your body proportions as well as some people the same height as you will have a longer torso and shorter legs or vice versa. I am short but it's mainly due to my short legs my torso is long so I have no real problems seeing over the steering wheel in most cars, but do need the seat pulled as far forward as it will go!

MarjorieDanvers · 07/07/2024 00:24

I’m the same height as you and currently have a mini (which I love)!

Ive driven a variety of cars over the years - but liked my juke, seat Leon and kia picanto! My favourite though was a Roland Garros Peugeot 205 - still miss it!

At 5 foot 3 I've driven all sizes and power. Recent years I prefer smaller, less fuel, easier to park, low tax. X

IBegYourBiggestPardon · 07/07/2024 02:46

A Vauxhall Corsa, but I've also driven a Vauxhall cavalier, a Renault Laguna and a Mazda 6 estate car. I'm 5ft 1

Octavia64 · 07/07/2024 02:54

Volvo xc90.

Seats completely adjustable and I drive with it very far forward by anyone else's standards.

Turtleauction · 07/07/2024 06:33

I’m 5’2 and had a Nissan Juke it’s quite a high seating position, a lot smaller inside than you’d think, but I found personally the front lights are a bit distorting - it died on me though so

yesterday I got a 2015 hyundai i30, the seat adjusts a lot didn’t feel weird not being as high up, was a decent size more interior space than my juke was pleasantly surprised with it to be honest. It’s getting delivered tuesday, I can’t wait as haven’t had a car for 2 months 😁

RedToothBrush · 07/07/2024 06:35

Kia picanto.

Iheartmysmart · 07/07/2024 08:28

Same height as you and I’ve got a Smart Fortwo convertible. Utterly impractical for most people but I bloody love it. They can be expensive for parts though. I’ve driven lots of vehicles from a camper van through to my current car and haven’t really struggled with any of them. In fact the bigger cars have been easier to drive. But it’s only me in the car now, I wfh so don’t do many miles so I wanted something cheap and fun for occasional use.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 07/07/2024 08:30

5’1” Mini

YesIthinkso · 07/07/2024 08:31

Kia Sportage.
I’m tiny but the size of a car I drive means nothing to me as I used to drive a lorry .

sleepyscientist · 07/07/2024 08:32

I've driven all sorts over the years and haven't found anything that I can't see over the steering wheel. I prefer a big car as being higher up is easier at junctions etc

Iagrewithhim · 07/07/2024 08:32

5 ft 1 and i drive a Kia picanto. I love it. It's so easy to handle and very fuel efficient (I drive about 260 miles a week).

Tel12 · 07/07/2024 08:34

I drive a Kuga. The seats adjust every which way.

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 07/07/2024 08:34

5'2" and a BMW 1 series. Drive it no prob, but I like a laid back driving position. My shorter teen DD can't drive it though as she feels she can't see properly because the bucket seats make her sit too far back (even with the seat really close to the wheel). It's not a great fit for her at 5'1" and nothing of her padding wise 🤣

TroysMammy · 07/07/2024 08:36

I'm 4ft 11 and 3/4 inches tall and drive a Citroen C1. My previous car was a Chevrolet Matiz. I loved that car but after 10 years I needed a change. My brother-in-law who is 5ft 11 now has it and he loves it too.

MichaelAndEagle · 07/07/2024 08:38

Hi, I'm 5ft 2 with short arms and legs. I drive a Nissan Note, which is great and not tiny for a small car.

TheDogsMother · 07/07/2024 08:39

I'm 5 ft 3 (just) and am short in the body, longer in the leg. I drive a Fiat 500 Abarth, also a Freelander. Both great.
