Gransnets take away

This is Gransnets commentary on our first ever female Deputy Prime Minister.
I hope the winds of change rage through the country.

Gransnets take away

What can you say? Internalised misogyny.

sprigatito · 05/07/2024 21:16

How appalling for women - particularly older women with life experience - to make such misogynistic comments.

DS1 and I watched it together and both of us said how great it was that she was dressed comfortably and practically, and that while she looked fabulous as always it wasn't and shouldn't be her primary consideration.

Happily, I highly doubt she gives a dry fuck what Gransnet thinks of her appearance. She has a job to do (and about time too).

Gelasring · 05/07/2024 21:18

Funnily enough I was thinking of Cherie Blair today and the stick she got for her clothes and looks. Apparently we haven't moved on much. Sad!

AutumnCrow · 05/07/2024 21:20

It's no better here on Mumsnet.

SkippysEar · 05/07/2024 21:23

Why can't some grandmas comment on clothes? My old gran used to love commenting on what the Queen was wearing, although it was always complimentary.

catwithflowers · 05/07/2024 21:23

I am a granny and think that's a disgraceful post. We are better than this, surely? ☹️

If you think that's a post commenting on clothes you might want to work on your reading comprehension.

MabelMoo23 · 05/07/2024 21:25

My Mum was no different today. Couldn’t help herself, making a shitty comment about Angela Rayner. FFS

and Paul Brand from ITV commenting about her being a 45 year grandmother as she walked up Downing Street. What the fuck does that have to do with Angela Rayners suitability as deputy PM

would he have said something similar about Wes Streeting ?? I fucking doubt it

Marvelo · 05/07/2024 21:26

I love Angela Rayner's look. I think some people don't get it because it's not a sort of classic "good taste" look and because millennial fashions have quite distinctive shapes that look old fashioned to some older people.

tillyandmilly · 05/07/2024 21:34

Its not old fashioned outfit at all but I have to say she look awful in it sorry !

keffie12 · 05/07/2024 21:39

@tongsatdawn Your post from gransnet is one of the reasons I closed my account on there.

Granted there can be bitch fests over here, however generally its a different vibe.

I could no longer deal with the day in day, day out of the vindictive, old before their time nastiness over their.

My generation was the generation of change and rebelness. What the hell happened.

I love the team of KS and AR. They are the ying and yang to each other, yet for me, they compliment each other in KS as the serious, steely quiet man and AR sassiness and boldness.

Im looking forward to a different, steadier time of government

IsThePopeCatholic · 05/07/2024 21:46

How sad and pathetic. AR is fantastic. Who cares how she dresses. She’s achieved more in her life than most of us ever will.

That

OnlyFrench · 05/07/2024 21:55

That sounds more like a man, or possibly a windup. Didn't know Gransnet existed!

It doesn’t sound like a man at all.

If you think that sounds more like a man, you've clearly never seen the bitch fests on Mumsnet when there's been an awards ceremony or a film premiere.

Some women are just obsessed with what other women wear and how they look, yet they'll be the first to blame men when women want to get cosmetic surgery or they're worried about their weight.

grannyjacob · 05/07/2024 22:04

If you read through the whole thread on Gransnet, you’ll find that there are many posters who are supportive of AR, her achievements and what she’s wearing. However, one particular poster, a die-hard Tory, actually said at one point that AR looked like “a tart”. She has had this and other posts deleted and has been soundly taken to task for her posts by others, on the thread.

LiterallyOnFire · 05/07/2024 22:05

It's one poster on Gransnet.

LightSpeeds · 05/07/2024 22:09

What point are you trying to make from this ONE post on Gransnet? That the elderly are all misogynists?

There's been quite a few posts against Angela Rayner on this very forum today.

YOU are clearly ageist.

I've read part way and couldn't read anymore. Yes one or two stick up for her, but the rest are vile.

LiterallyOnFire · 05/07/2024 22:05

It's one poster on Gransnet.

It started as most posts do by one poster. Others then piled on agreeing with the OP and pointing out the failings in other women’s clothing choices/ looks.
I didn’t read the whole thread because I found it nasty.
I would guess that I’m around the same age as the target audience of Gransnet but like @keffie12 feel the general vibe is off.

OP posts:
LiterallyOnFire · 05/07/2024 22:19

Stay here and ignore gransnet then. I didn't realise it was a nest of bra interventionists.

tongsatdawn · 05/07/2024 22:20

Ha Ha @LightSpeeds Im 70 so not quite as ageist as you hoped just trying to be a decent person.

It’s considerably more than one or two and none of the posts, including the deleted ones, are any worse than similar posts I’ve read in countless threads on Mumsnet about any number of women in the public eye.

LakeTiticaca · 05/07/2024 22:21
