This is Gransnets commentary on our first ever female Deputy Prime Minister.
I hope the winds of change rage through the country.

It’s considerably more than one or two and none of the posts, including the deleted ones, are any worse than similar posts I’ve read in countless threads on Mumsnet about any number of women in the public eye.

We'll have to agree to differ. From what I read, the majority were making disparaging comments. We've obviously had a different experience on MN as I haven't noticed such threads, but even if there were why the race to the bottom? Can't we agree that women should be treated with respect?

I'm old enough to post on Gransnet, but fuck that. MN to the end!

What point are you trying to make from this ONE post on Gransnet? That the elderly are all misogynists?

There's been quite a few posts against Angela Rayner on this very forum today.

YOU are clearly ageist.

I don't live in the UK and barely know who Angela Rayner is, but I've read a lot of nasty things about her on MN over the years.

Have you read the MN thread on Rayner? Or the Jess Phillips threads? Vile.

If you read through the whole thread on Gransnet, you’ll find that there are many posters who are supportive of AR, her achievements and what she’s wearing. However, one particular poster, a die-hard Tory, actually said at one point that AR looked like “a tart”. She has had this and other posts deleted and has been soundly taken to task for her posts by others, on the thread.

The only problem is that the poster to which you refer derails many threads and the admin team seem to do very little about it. She seems to be Queen Bee with a coterie of flying monkeys who hang on her every post. Some of her comments are downright derogatory and judgmental and she seems to believe that she is in some way superior. Not good vibe for a decent discussion.

It's not, and I agree that the poster in question is deeply offensive, not just to Angela Rayner, but to anyone she sees as beneath her (ie most people). Having read the thread, though, I agree with the poster who said that there are several people disagreeing with her sexism.

Why is it worse when older people are pains in the arse? You get those in every age group, and it's just as bad to assume that it's her age that's driving it. the people who disagree with her are presumably older, too. I suspect the offensive one was the same as a younger woman.
