How many holidays do you go on per year?

OP posts:

About 6 for us, centered around the school breaks. We do our big long-haul trips in summer and at Easter, and we tend to ski in the second week of the Christmas holidays. We keep it more simple for the half term breaks, often something like a week of camping or a Euro city break.

@PizzaPastaWine you sound like me, we go 4/5 times, always cheap flights, travel light and basic but nice accommodation. If I look at my holiday pics from the last 10 years it’s always the same clothes I’m wearing cos I don’t buy unless they are worn out!
People make comments like ‘you are always away’ but when I look at some package holiday costs they are as much for one holiday as I’d pay for 4 trips

Yes!

We take carry on only (including 2 weeks island hopping in Croatia) to save money on carry on. We eat local and stay locally - this trip in Greece is in a little mountain village.

And yes, it's always been the same shorts and dresses for me too, for YEARS!

The idea of a luxury hotel/all inclusive just stresses the hell out of me so that suits my desire for travel.

Plus, I'm canny with my planning of flights. I do my research and set my alarm the morning of the Easyjet flight release - I actually have a thread on here that has been really useful and keeps getting resurrected before they go on sale.

I’ve never been able to consider ‘a night away’…packing up for all weather eventualities, not checking in u til 2 or 3 pm, not being able to work out shower controls, avoiding marking sheets & towels…..just to repack & check out by 10 or 11am next morning. Why? Just why?
To me that’s torture!

why are you "avoiding marking sheets and towels"?

(I mean, I'm assuming you're not habitually filthifying your own sheets and towels when you're at home - if you are, then I applaud your conscientiousness with other people's property and suggest you consider being a bit cleaner in normal life)

They're going to get washed anyway.

I also don't think you need to pack for all weather eventualities. Forecasts a couple of days ahead are pretty accurate these days.

I agree it might seem a bit of a waste for basically one evening; but we've done it a couple of times to go and see a show, for example. And for our hobby club's night out later this month we're planning on staying in Big City overnight because the trains back to our town stop at 10.

DinnaeFashYersel · 06/07/2024 13:27

This year

2 x family holidays NYC and the Caribbean.

2 x family UK city breaks.

I am travelling overseas twice for work and will stay on for some solo touristing.

merryhouse · 06/07/2024 13:29

For about ten years we would have a week Proper Booked Holiday (in the UK) in July; a week in August for me and the boys at my dad's seeing all the cousins, H joining us at the end, then a week at his mum's; about a week after Christmas visiting both sides again; a few days at Easter ditto.

So far this year we've had three weekends at H's mum's, at the beginnings and end of university terms, and just come back from a week there incorporating Graduation celebrations. We'll be back down there in August for a family get-together with added Girlfriend's Parents.

There was some talk of doing something in October but I can't remember what. Then we'll probably visit people again after Christmas.

Chanel05 · 06/07/2024 13:35

2x holidays to the USA per year, 2 weeks each time.

jockeywilsonsaid · 06/07/2024 13:42

Usually two proper holidays, summer and either Easter / May or October half term. We'll try and get in a European city break in as well if we can. Most years we'll have a UK camping weekend too. We love our holidays though we've changed the kind we have now prices have skyrocketed.

Geekynzmum · 25/07/2024 18:30

This year - none. Can't afford it. Last year we went on 1 which was a special occasion.

Femalefootyfan · 25/07/2024 18:34

Lucky to have had 10 days away earlier in the year and two holidays upcoming, both for a week in the sun.

Also had a few 2/3 night stays away in the UK with a few more to come.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 25/07/2024 19:55

A couple of what I’d call ‘substantial’ holidays then probably four or five three or four day breaks.

HansHolbein · 25/07/2024 19:57

Least amount possible.

countdowntonap · 25/07/2024 19:57

1 week abroad - Feb
1 week UK - Easter
1 week UK - May
2-3 week longer trip abroad - Jul
1 week Uk - Aug
5 days UK - Oct
plus shorter/weekend breaks as needed

38 yrs old

countdowntonap · 25/07/2024 19:59

@PizzaPastaWine where can I find out more about Island hopping in Croatia? Sounds amazing.

NannyGythaOgg · 25/07/2024 20:26

2 or 3. This year had a week all inclusive in Morocco for £350 in May. Stayed in the 'village' and spent very little else. Just went for the weather. Then I'm going to Turkey in Sept for 10 days. Self catering. Will use the local supermarket but will be more spendy.

My annual income is under £13k but I have very low overheads the rest of the year in a small new build property. No dependants and I rarely go out at home

EmeraldDreams73 · 29/09/2024 20:03

None. This year we had 3 nights away in Budapest for our honeymoon (paid for by our lovely guests) so that was amazing. We haven't had a holiday in years but are v much hoping to be able to take my dds abroad for a family holiday in 2 years' time. Dh has a small pension that will hopefully pay out around then and wants to take us all away which is absolutely amazing of him.

TotteringByRosie · 30/09/2024 20:22

20+. We go away in our campervan most weekends over the Spring, Summer and Autumn. We also do a couple of flights each year. We both work part time now to facilitate long weekends away.

PTSDBarbiegirl · 30/09/2024 20:24

I absolutely hate travel now and love being at home! So the money I save I’ll take weekend trips at times and buy very nice things for my home and garden!

liquidsquidli · 30/09/2024 20:31

1 week x 2 one cruise and 1 AI
2 week x 1 cruis and stay
Mini break x 3 two uk and 1 Europe

We alternate long haul every other year.

liquidsquidli · 30/09/2024 20:32

Oh this is a zombie thread!

DatingDinosaur · 30/09/2024 22:26

One roughly every six weeks.

Although I define a "holiday" as being away from home for leisure rather than jetting off to warmer climes so mostly long weekend breaks in the UK. I have a suitcase in a constant state of 'almost packed' so I just bung in a few bits and pieces and go. Last minute (even up to the night before) bookings. Always find something.

XenoBitch · 01/10/2024 00:45

Just the one. A caravan holiday with my mum.

Yerto · 01/10/2024 02:35

I usually try and do an abroad one with my other half, one as a family and then a city break with my friends. Will usually do a caravan break as well and a night away for a theme park or similar. Also visit family 4 hours away but not sure if that counts as a holiday.

Timeforicecream · 01/10/2024 03:02

This year, none as work didn’t permit. But I did do a few weekend city breaks.

Next year x1 summer holiday
Few city breaks
Possibly some winter sun

underused · 01/10/2024 03:58

What counts as a holiday?

Including weekend breaks probably about ten.

ObieJoyful · 01/10/2024 04:32

We used to do four or five- it’s what we have always prioritised and saved for. This year it’s been one. We just can’t afford luxuries anymore.
