How many holidays do you go on per year?

When the kids were you ger we did 2 separate weeks away in the UK each year.

Now they are older(both young adults) we go on two holidays abroad each year (summer and december) and dh and I have 2 or 3 weekends away in the UK.

protectoroftherealm · 05/07/2024 20:55

We usually have 3 holidays per year and festivals 2 or 3 times a year. This year we have our festivals and we'll have been on holiday 5 times. Rarely go out and don't have any hobbies. Holidays are our priority after bills are paid.

NotMeekNotObedient · 05/07/2024 20:56

It depends!

This year we have:
1 night away couples break - Suffolk
4 nights Butlins Tots break - Skegness
1 week Eurocamp - Netherlands
3 night weekend break Parkdean - Sussex
3 night weekend break Haven - Norfolk

We have a toddler so these kind of breaks work for us.

Other years, before DD, it might be a one big long-hauled holiday, one week camping, or several city breaks, all depends of fund and our situation really.

We really value holidays.

Around 15. We have a campervan so head off whenever we can. Also a couple of flights a year.

BurntBroccoli · 05/07/2024 21:08

Zero

Mammma91 · 05/07/2024 21:14

Going on my first holiday abroad soon. Never been able to afford it before now, had to save extremely hard. Probably won’t afford another for a good few years, as I have young children.

Too many! We have family overseas and I only work term time and love to travel with the kids. In recent years the norm is:

Skiing and visiting French family (Feb)
A week family ‘cultural’ holiday in Europe or US East Coast (Easter)
A week at my parents’ holiday cottage in Norfolk (July)
Paris to visit my sister (my favourite visit of the year)
Various short or longer visits to family at their various homes in France, Serbia, Greece and Ireland (not all at once)
A week travelling in Europe with DS (DD goes to family in France)
A week travelling in Europe with DD (DS stays with family in France or parents in Norfolk)
Two weeks family summer holiday (The Alps, Italy, US or Africa)
Sometimes Christmas/NY in The Alps with family, although visiting my best friend in Oz this year.

HueyDueyandBluey · 05/07/2024 21:16

3 proper abroad holidays

twentysevendresses · 05/07/2024 21:32

Sadly none...haven't been away since 2011 (skiing trip to Andorra).

I'd love to...unfortunately can't afford it and not sure I'd enjoy being away by myself. Would be a bit 'sad' not being able to share the experience with someone.

flotsomandjetsome · 05/07/2024 21:35

Haven't been on holiday for 15 years. Decided to save the money so DC could have a better life and go on trips etc if they came up. DH and I figured that we would go without to make sure DC have the best we can give them.

YourNimblePeachTraybake · 05/07/2024 21:36

None.

Singersong · 05/07/2024 21:37

I'd say an average of 3-4 times a year we will go abroad and maybe a further 4-5 weekends away in the UK.

BarryKentPoet · 05/07/2024 21:38

Two. Turkey and Spain this year, Malta and Greece next year.

Two. Turkey and Spain this year, Malta and Greece next year.

Plus 2 or 3 UK weekend breaks & maybe a festival too.

Chickenwing2 · 05/07/2024 21:41

Try to do 3 weeks worth (usually a 1 week and a 2 week)

Curioustoknow1 · 05/07/2024 21:42

We usually do 5 abroad, one in the UK & 4 or 5 UK weekend breaks.

Superstar22 · 05/07/2024 21:43

We are very lucky & massively prioritise holidays. But we don’t earn silly MN money, just “good income”
2-3 x 5 day winter breaks
1-2 x 10 day-2 week holidays
2 each other breaks like weekend in golf or away with friends
6 weeks across the year in a seaside town as we have a place

husband has to buy leave or sometimes works remotes or sometimes misses out. I work for myself. Kids have most of 13 weeks away in some form.

WiseBiscuit · 05/07/2024 22:07

I’m really just not a holiday person, hate being away from home.

We do live in a chocolate box cottage in a lovely village and we have animals - a week at home with my horse is my idea of heaven so I’d rather do that. I also love a day trip.

DD is 5 and thanks to Covid she’s only had 1 proper holiday. As she gets older we will try to do one a year when we can afford it.

We went away for 2 weeks last year and it was nice (and bloody expensive) but I’d rather have been home to be honest.

momtoboys · 05/07/2024 23:48

Two - one at our summer home on the sea for a month and 1 other week away. This year is three because we are going back to Ireland for two weeks.

caringcarer · 05/07/2024 23:51

2 weeks med cruise, 2 weeks in holiday home in France near coast and a long weekend in Bruges.

Fieldsofgold1 · 05/07/2024 23:54

Another comparison thread to make feel bad those who don't or rarely go on holiday.

Only on MN are a minimum of 4 exotic holidays a year a normal thing.

Geiyotue · 05/07/2024 23:58

One. I don't understand how anyone can afford more than one, it always baffles me the amount of people round my way who go away for every school holiday.

Moier · 05/07/2024 23:58

6 to 7.
Been on four already.

OptimismvsRealism · 06/07/2024 00:01

This year is a bit much with 8 but it's been special circumstances
