How many holidays do you go on per year?

OP posts:
RogueFemale · 06/07/2024 00:02

None.

Another comparison thread to make feel bad those who don't or rarely go on holiday.

Only on MN are a minimum of 4 exotic holidays a year a normal thing.

Well when you can make a chicken last 6 meals and a giant salad feeds the whole family you can afford to make these savings

Agirlnamedsam · 06/07/2024 00:05

1 abroad, and 2/3 staycations.
My parents have a static caravan in a lovely place so we go there most of the school holidays. Also usually go for a few overnight hotel stays (just to visit tourists attractions etc)

frenchfancy81 · 06/07/2024 00:05

Center Parcs in Feb, week in Dorset in April, week in France in May, week in Majorca in August, week in Lapland in December and a few UK hotel nights away through the year. Very fortunate!!

NeverHadHaveHas · 06/07/2024 00:13

1 long weekend in center parcs, 1 week in Greece and 2 weeks in America (WDW).

Violet17 · 06/07/2024 00:14

It varies.
Usually one for a week.
But occasionally one for two weeks and occasionally none.

Too many! We have family overseas and I only work term time and love to travel with the kids. In recent years the norm is:

Skiing and visiting French family (Feb)
A week family ‘cultural’ holiday in Europe or US East Coast (Easter)
A week at my parents’ holiday cottage in Norfolk (July)
Paris to visit my sister (my favourite visit of the year)
Various short or longer visits to family at their various homes in France, Serbia, Greece and Ireland (not all at once)
A week travelling in Europe with DS (DD goes to family in France)
A week travelling in Europe with DD (DS stays with family in France or parents in Norfolk)
Two weeks family summer holiday (The Alps, Italy, US or Africa)
Sometimes Christmas/NY in The Alps with family, although visiting my best friend in Oz this year.

That sounds amazing!!! Can I be nosey and ask how you manage to afford all those holidays?

darksigns · 06/07/2024 00:21

One, and it’s a week in the UK.

Heelworkhero · 06/07/2024 00:21

A main 16 day holiday in Europe in the summer.
Short break abroad 3/5 days 2-3 times a year.
Probably 8-10 2/3 nights away in the UK

I’ll go away an additional 2-3 times a year for a few nights with friends.

No kids.

Mamofteenager · 06/07/2024 00:25

2 abroad, 1 feb half term and 1 summer. My parents have a caravan that we use multiple times for long weekends and my DSIL lives in London so will also visit during the year

Emily1583 · 06/07/2024 00:39

A week in a friend's caravan down Cornwall for us this year later in the summer. Too skint for foreign adventures this year. We did manage New York last year though so we are doing ok in the big scheme of things. Otherwise it's just weekend trips.

SoupDragon · 06/07/2024 08:55

How many do you go on, OP?

It's not made to make anyone feel bad at all. The title of the thread is quite clear. No, mumsnetter is forced to read a thread.

It's not only on MN where people are able to go on multiple holidays at all.

I could only ever have one child but wanted 3, the one we do have took lots of treatment and heartbreak, should we stop the 'should I try for a third' posts?

Redlorryyellowlorryblue · 06/07/2024 09:01

2 x 1 weeks away in UK, 2 weeks long haul and 1 European long weekend.

Oldcroneandthreewitches · 06/07/2024 09:01

Last year two - Paris & Turkey

This year one. - Dubai

SallyWD · 06/07/2024 09:03

Honestly, I lose track! And it's not a brag because a lot of our trips are very cheap visits to family or friends etc. I'd love to do less but I have a DH who can't stop travelling and who has friends and families all over the world. I find it quite tiring. Our holidays are never remotely relaxing.

Cantfindanavailablename · 06/07/2024 09:05

I tend to camp in my nans back garden for three or so days. And also around three nights at my cousin's. They are holiday destinations so I figured that counts

marshmallowfinder · 06/07/2024 09:08

None at all. I can't afford them. Holidays are an indulgence and a luxury and people should not be flying round the world either, without a second thought. I find this question pretty annoying. Yes, I know I don't have to read the post but I'm sick of the casual way in which most people assume everyone else goes on a holiday.

Kpo58 · 06/07/2024 09:08

0 I really need a holiday though.

(Why does Mumsnet keep putting my text into numbered bullet points?! 🤦‍♀️)

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 06/07/2024 09:12

In last twelve months,:The Netherlands for a few days, Canary isands for 3 months, Caribbean for 1 month. Retired, so we can, very fortunate.

TheChosenTwo · 06/07/2024 09:12

About 4. 2 abroad, one as a 2 week main family holiday in August and then one week somewhere in Europe for the May or October half term.
Then usually 2 in the U.K., a week during the Easter holidays and a week over new year with family.
Will also try and squeeze in some city breaks U.K. or abroad with my friends but depends on leave.

WingingIt09 · 06/07/2024 09:13

1-2 family holidays in the UK e.g Butlins/Parkdean one for a week and if we manage a second it's usually a long weekend.

2 overnight trips away just my husband and I (we usually prioritise doing something like a spa break or a night away instead of giving each other presents for birthday/Christmas/anniversary)

ThePuma · 06/07/2024 09:14

Went to Cape Town in Feb, Florida at Easter, going to Turkey in the Summer and the Maldives in November. Plus a few weekend city breaks abroad and a few UK trips.

My New Year’s resolution was to have as many holidays as possible.
