Keep needing a wee bit no UTI?

Worried137 · 05/07/2024 09:26

So earlier this week when I went to bed I went to the toilet 4 times between the hours of 10-11.30pm. It kind of came out of nowhere - I had a cup of tea before bed so thought it might be that - but I don’t normally go so frequently before I actually went to sleep. I did actually need to go as well.

But, this has continued all week. I keep needing / feeling like I need the loo, and some times I do actually need it. Then some times I don’t really need a wee, but I’ve got this dull sensation that feels like I need to. However it’s not excruciating / burning like UTI pain (I’ve had my fair share of these so I know the ache is different).

It’s distressing me - could I flush this out with water? Or could this still be a UTI even though the pain isn’t burning?

I never get burning pain with a UTI
Mine is always needing a wee loads and feeling like someone is squeezing my sides plus a pressure as if my bladder is always full

Worried137 · 05/07/2024 09:33

@spikeandbuffy yes that’s really similar to how I feel right now! Can you get UTIs from not drinking enough water? I normally always get them after sex but that definitely hasn’t caused it this time!

Any other symptoms? I was convinced I had a UTI but results showed it was candida (thrush) inside my bladder 😳I'd only ever had it once in 30 odd years, so was very surprised by the result.

Are you very thirsty? Any deficiencies or other health issues? Peri?

Well I hardly drink any water (terrible I know) so I think my body is always dehydrated. I am 31.

Cystitis? Get some cranberry juice and cystitis sachets

nibsterslert · 05/07/2024 09:36

Are you menopausal? Can sometimes be hormonal and easily treated with some topical eostrogen

Worried137 · 05/07/2024 09:37

I don’t think it’s cystitis though because I’ve had that a lot before and that causes terrible burning pain.

Can a UTI actually cause you to wee more? I thought it just caused you to feel as if you need to but don’t actually go. However I have been weeing more too as well as feeling like I need to go all the time.

Yes, uti can cause you to wee more. I've just had the problem myself.

Worried137 · 05/07/2024 09:48

Think a trip to the GP is needed then!

Hope you are better soon.

It's not really something you need to take up a GP appointment for now - it's on the list of 'Pharmacy First' issues

Check if you have a 'pharmacy first' pharmacy near you. They will have a consultation room and can usually do a same day appointment and prescribe on the spot for you

Will be a lot easier than getting a GP appointment too!

Worried137 · 05/07/2024 20:52

Well I went to the GP, they did a dip-stick which apparently showed signs of infection. So I have been given antibiotics but still have this (non-urgent) feeling that I need to wee. It's getting me down and seems to have just appeared out of the blue :(

Have they sent the sample off to test for other things? STDs etc.

Antibiotics can take up to 48 hours to relieve symptoms but I still recommend cranberry juice.

Worried137 · 05/07/2024 20:58

No as I couldn't produce enough wee, annoyingly. They said if the symptoms persist then I need to go back on Monday and drop off a sample which they will send off.

Woken up this morning with lower back pain. Also just checked the notes from the GP consultation and the dipstick was positive to both nitrates and leukocytes. I am so glad I went yesterday- knew/know something isn’t right!

Thought I was feeling better but still have this sort of urge to wee. It doesn't burn. Should I go back to GP?

Did they prescribe anything after your dipstick?

Have you got chills or fever? I'm immune suppressed so when my came back positive for the dipstick, I have 7 days of antibiotics and didn't have to wait for the lab results unless it requires a different antibiotic.

If you have back pain it could be a sign of going to your kidneys but normally you get chills.

summeroccupation · 09/07/2024 10:45

I would! Utis can go nasty quickly - take a decent sample with you so they can culture it too.

D-mannose was recommended to me by the nurse prescriber and worked really well at reducing symptoms.

RubySloth · 09/07/2024 10:45

If you don't have complex health conditions and not started on antibiotics yet, you should do what the other poster said and do pharmacy first.

Worried137 · 09/07/2024 10:49

@RubySloth Yes, I was given 3 days of trimethoprim which I finished on Sunday. Don't have any back-pain now but was throwing up every 10-30 minutes from 4am - midday on Sunday morning (due to a terrible hangover), but I don't think the dehydration would have helped even though I did try and replenish my water. I am going to go back and make sure I can do a decent sample.

Hope you feel better soon. I would avoid alcohol for awhile and drink plenty of water to help flush your system. Hopefully you are back to normal soon.

ARGH okay so dipstick didn’t show any infection except some blood. It was sent off to the lab on Tuesday but no results yet. However I just feel like I need to wee all of the time. It’s so frustrating and really getting me down. I feel totally fine otherwise so I’m wondering what’s going on.

Is this ever going to go away? 😭

Try the D-mannose.
