Keep needing a wee bit no UTI?

Worried137 · 05/07/2024 09:26

So earlier this week when I went to bed I went to the toilet 4 times between the hours of 10-11.30pm. It kind of came out of nowhere - I had a cup of tea before bed so thought it might be that - but I don’t normally go so frequently before I actually went to sleep. I did actually need to go as well.

But, this has continued all week. I keep needing / feeling like I need the loo, and some times I do actually need it. Then some times I don’t really need a wee, but I’ve got this dull sensation that feels like I need to. However it’s not excruciating / burning like UTI pain (I’ve had my fair share of these so I know the ache is different).

It’s distressing me - could I flush this out with water? Or could this still be a UTI even though the pain isn’t burning?

@RubySloth Yes, I was given 3 days of trimethoprim which I finished on Sunday. Don't have any back-pain now but was throwing up every 10-30 minutes from 4am - midday on Sunday morning (due to a terrible hangover), but I don't think the dehydration would have helped even though I did try and replenish my water. I am going to go back and make sure I can do a decent sample.

No sympathy for the throwing up that’s on you, alcohol can also worsen your symptoms so it would be best to avoid it while you’ve still got symptoms.

ditalini · 11/07/2024 19:56

I had uti symptoms that turned out to be a kidney stone a few years back.

It was excruciating though, but maybe a smaller stone would just irritate? Dipstick showed no infection but blood in urine and then thankfully I passed the stone and it stopped hurting almost immediately.

I was terrible at keeping hydrated but I'm bloody not now!

I've also had utis though that have grumbled on and needed more than the 3 days of trimethoprim, so I'd go back to GP.

@ditalini interesting. I am not really in pain, and UTIs I’ve had before have bloody killed after I’ve gone to the toilet. However this evening I’m really not passing much urine when going to the toilet, so something isn’t right. I’m waiting for the results from my culture test but yes think I’ll ask for more antibiotics tomorrow.

Definitely alcohol - especially if it was white wine? - doesn't help! I find drinking little and often, taking D Mannose and paracetamol, and avoiding cranberry juice helps (cranberry is too acidic for my bladder). Also trimethoprim isn't effective so I ask for nitrofanturoin (sp?) which is better for me.

Get a blood test, especially as there's no sign of infection. I had this constant need to pee and it's one of the symptoms of a thyroid problem. I've got an Overactive Thyroid

After me saying oh yes I get that, I got a UTI today AngryGrin bloody annoying

Worried137 · 12/07/2024 11:08

I am getting really fed up of this. Why has it suddenly just started 😢

There was blood in my wee dipstick but no leuks or nitrates. Would this indicate infection?

OP posts:
JC03745 · 12/07/2024 14:11

It might be a bladder or kidney stone! They irritates the bladder wall and causes blood on a dip stick, and when you try to wee, the urethra can become blocked by the stone. Our neighbour has this with her dog. The poor thing was squatting for ages and only a tiny trickle would come out. It had an ultrasound, then surgery to remove it. The principle is the same in humans though. Hopefully its not that though obviously.

Worried137 · 12/07/2024 19:56

@JC03745 i hadn’t thought of that. It could well be as it does feel like some pressure in my bladder. I had two cocktails and had to go to the toilet 3 times in about 45 mins. It’s really depressing me

Any chance of a STD?

Kidney stone?

Irritation of the bladder from alcohol? You've meant alcohol a few times?

BloodyHellKenAgain · 12/07/2024 21:33

Have you recently had a virus OP?

I had a nasty bug about 6 months ago. I think it was flu because I ached all over, bad cough, felt like death warmed up etc etc.

After a couple of weeks, once I was on the mend I had a similar sounding bladder thing start. A sort of heavy feeling, but no urgency of burning. I had to get up each night to wee and just felt uncomfortable during the day.
It lasted about 5 days then completely went. I assume it was some sort of weird post viral inflammation.

Worried137 · 12/07/2024 22:36

Don’t think I have an STD. Did a test a few months ago after I last had sex and it was clear.

no haven’t had a virus I don’t think but yes it’s just a heavy feeling with uncomfortable and feeling like I need to empty my bladder. And then when I do actually drink it’s like constant trips to the toilet. If I also push out my bum - like I am on the toilet - it causes twinges in my lower abdomen. Still waiting for the culture urine sample to come back, but I’ll have to speak to GP on Monday.

Fgs I am still waiting for the culture test. It was sent off last Tuesday!!! I was told it would be back by Thursday. Argh

Coming back to this thread because I seem to be getting the same symptoms again a few months later - feeling like I need to wee / there’s a pressure down below.

Everything seemed to clear up back in the summer, but my periods did become quite irregular and I had one period where I “bled” for 7 days which is unusual for me - but it was very light and more brown blood.

My period was actually due yesterday but hasn’t started yet even though I’ve got my classic PMS - including burning after weeing which has now gone but I did have to take a one cystitis sachet on Saturday.

I’ve recently gone for my smear and I have HPV and borderline changes to my cells so I am going for a colposcopy in a few weeks.

I am wondering if everything is linked but it’s getting me down again. I don’t want this feeling of needing to wee, no burning but it’s uncomfortable.

I have been drinking alcohol pretty much every night for the last few months (just a glass or 2) - maybe that’s irritating it.

OP posts:
Worried137 · 21/10/2024 21:58

Could it be interstitial cystitis?

OP posts:
muchadoaboutnuffin · 21/10/2024 21:58

OP, it could be Pelvic Inflammatory Disease. The urinary signs associated with it can often be confused with cystitis, especially if chronic.

muchadoaboutnuffin · 21/10/2024 21:59

It is often caused by an STI, but isn’t always so your negative swabs won’t rule it out.

Worried137 · 21/10/2024 22:09

I hadn’t thought about that. I might see if my period starts and what happens, I just find these symptoms so annoying and they get me down.

OP posts:
EDJG · 03/03/2025 16:56

Hi OP did you get to the bottom of your symptoms?

Worried137 · 21/06/2025 10:47

Coming back to this thread because these symptoms are flaring up again 😭 I think it could be something to do with post period hormones. But it’s bloody annoying. Never got to the bottom of it last time, it sort of just went away.

EDJG · 21/06/2025 11:12

Can you get a digital microbiology test done? It will tell u if you have bad bacteria in your urine and vsgina ... its roughly £200ish but you can pay in 3
