Part of me is scared for the number of people voting Reform.

But, and this is a big but, this doesn't mean it will translate into seats.

Similar thing happened fur UKIP in 2919, they got over 4 million votes, but only won 1 seat - and where are they now?

On the other hand, the story of the red wall seats, the collapse of the main right-wing party and the rise of the far-right is reminiscent of what happened in France a few years ago... So hopefully it will just be a splash, and not the new trend...

I do find the lamenting the Reform vote on the coverage is entirely missing the point this is a historic win for Labour.

Yep

tobee · 04/07/2024 23:49

And it serves to give them tons of publicity

Is the remarkable thing that the Tories are so Sunaked that it isn't even really news that Labour will have a massive majority?

tobee · 04/07/2024 23:52

Where's the celebration???

Champagnesocialismo · 04/07/2024 23:53

I think the point being made is that the Conservatives underestimated Reform. And really, I think they didn’t understand how marginal their offer had become for the country. They have a huge problem on that one.

KatPurrson · 04/07/2024 23:45

The BBC coverage is dreadful. So low energy.

I know. And they are focusing on Reform whilst ignoring how well the Lib Dems have done.🤬

They need to be more right wing apparently.

Need a few Tory big wigs going but will there be any fun surprises?

tobee · 04/07/2024 23:55

None of the other channels are much better @VoteOutToHelpOut

C4 is low energy too. Just switched to Sky. But they're awful too. Rigby already giving energy to Labour that she only gave to the Tories when it was clear they were toast.

minou123 · 04/07/2024 23:56

I've switched over the Ch4.

Just caught Alistair Campbell tell Mad Nads she doesn't know what she's talking about.

Good lord, its all happening on 4.

Notonthestairs · 04/07/2024 23:56

I think the supermajority message freed a lot of Conservative voters to vote Reform.

That said not all Reform voters are Tories and large proportion of them wouldn't have voted at all if Reform hadn't stood according to YouGuv polling.

Grantshappsotherusrnames · 04/07/2024 23:56

Only 13 Cabinet ministers have lost their seats in the last 50 years.
Will it be 26 by the end of the night?

BestIsWest · 04/07/2024 23:56

ITV are the best so far I think but this bit is always a bit boring until the results proper start to come in.

Notonthestairs · 04/07/2024 23:57

I'm off to get some sleep- see you on the other side!

tobee · 04/07/2024 23:57

Maybe I'll try radio!! 🤔

I still think they need the centre. This is why they got to such a low point in the polls in the first place. Reform are working grievances. But the Conservatives are now split like Labour were in the 1980s, with the SDP. And they won’t win until they build a new coalition which despite the narrative of the BBC, is actually showing we are a centrist country.

Jason118 · 04/07/2024 23:59

I've emptied one bottle of whisky already.
(To be fair there was only 4 fingers left in it).
I'm glad that Reform are doing well, they will be subject to more scrutiny and fall apart.

tobee · 04/07/2024 23:59

Yes maybe that'll be reflected more in the old Tory south @Champagnesocialismo

Igotjelly · 04/07/2024 23:59

Nadine Dorries really is just a cunt.

KenAdams · 05/07/2024 00:00

This is your 4 hour nap time now. Get your heads down for a bit. 4am will be wild.

Grantshappsotherusrnames · 05/07/2024 00:01

Did Mad just say that the election has seen a shift to the right?

Did she miss the exit poll?

Peter Mandelson has made a similar point. He wants Labour to win over these Reform voters, and I so do I. Labour need to understand this message
