4x4 cars

just reading about those two girls that where killed a year ago in their school
grounds by an out of control driver, it’s utterly heartbreaking. Apparently the driver had an epileptic episode but had never had one before, I wonder if she’s had one since? The car was a truck! Why on earth do people drive these stupid 4x4 trucks. They’re everywhere. So bad for the environment, and so dangerous. What’s wrong with people. If you’re a farmer or live in the country fair enough but I live in a city and these selfish people use them to zoom around to the shops or drop thier kids off at school. Walk people! Tw*ts

In addition to my comment supporting suvs… I also agree with this. I only know one person with a Range Rover and never see her with it as it’s always in the garage being fixed.

Mind you, it was good in the snow for 2 days though back in 2019.

Still though, should we be driving 3.5 tonne trucks around? It’s utterly appalling

It wasnt a truck.

Also, its clear you dont like heavy vehicles - so will you also wax lyrical about banning EV's, which are all notorious for being heavy?

If not, your musings are largely a reflection of your view alone and is devoid of facts.

I agree with this. The attitude of the drivers of these types of cars is usually so entitled and bullying of other road users.

Not all 4x4 drivers are like that. Are all BMW drivers arseholes for instance?

I drive a Land Rover but we have a smallholding and my lifestyle wouldn’t suit a Ford KA. I couldn’t get bales of hay in the back of a Fiat 500 or tow someone out of the mud. It’s always 4x4 drivers who offer to help those stuck in snow or on ice as well during a cold snap. You couldn’t tow someone out of the snow in a Ford Fiesta 😂

And yes. I drive my child to school in it. It’s an incredibly safe car to be a passenger in. I’m considerate of where I park etc. The school is rural and you HAVE to drive to get there unless you live in the village which is absolutely tiny and one of the most expensive places to buy a property in in the U.K. Rent of a two bed terrace is £5,000 a month.

I drive it to work too - on rural roads. I’ll stick with it thanks, and I’m not a demonic driver.

I'd love to see the new government bring in some legislation to curb the use of these large SUVs.

Well I said usually. I didn't say all.
You have a small holding and a valid reason for needing the type of car you use.
There are a lot of people drive these vehicles around cities that have no valid reason. They don't NEED them for their life style or the environment they live and work in.

I live in a city and would love a little run around or even a tiny 2 seater, maybe a mini Cooper, that would be cool. However I'm over 70 with rip roaring arthritis, I could afford a mini or a sporty car and would have no problems driving it once I had fallen in. The problems would start when I needed the fire brigade to haul me out of it. So I'm stuck really, yes it's a pig to park, yes it costs a lot in petrol and its a bugger seeing over the bonnet but I think its quite important to be able to get out of my car independently.

I'd love to see the new government bring in some legislation to curb the use of these large SUVs.

And create motoring industry-related unemployment?

Cant see that happening. We have free market economics. People love SUVs.

We need more of them on our roads = more jobs.
