It matters not
Everyone knows it's the 7th month 😅

Talipesmum · 03/07/2024 23:17

Juh-ly. It’s all about do you make more of an “uh” sound or more of an “oo” sound with the first syllable. I’m northern and do more of an “uh”. Though it’s really more J’ly.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 03/07/2024 23:17

Juh-lie.
But the problem with pronunciation threads is that people have completely different ideas of how to write down sounds phonetically!

AnOldCynic · 03/07/2024 23:17

Joo-lie

SemperIdem · 03/07/2024 23:19

AnOldCynic · 03/07/2024 23:17

Joo-lie

You pronounce the month July the same as the name Julie?

KirstenBlest · 03/07/2024 23:20

Juh to me is like the Ju in Jut.

Jool-eye?

imnottoofussed · 03/07/2024 23:23

I think I say both depending on what I'm saying.

Eg I might be rhyming off the months and say juh lie

Then I might say oh its on 15th of jew lie

imnottoofussed · 03/07/2024 23:25

@SemperIdem the lie part is to rhyme with eye

So jool eye

Springwatch123 · 03/07/2024 23:27

Juh - lie ( and I’ve to say it a few times to check)

Ducksurprise · 03/07/2024 23:28

I'm glad I'm alone, I must look like an idiot trying all these different ways to say July

AnOldCynic · 04/07/2024 04:56

@SemperIdem

No, that would be Joo-lee.
Lie as in on a bed.

@AllProperTeaIsTheft makes a fair point.

VotesAndGoats · 04/07/2024 05:42

Lol how about other months.

Maaaay.
May.

SD1978 · 04/07/2024 05:53

Joo lie, Scottish. Although also maniacally muttering the months of the year to myself to check.......

EVHead · 04/07/2024 06:03

I think I say both. 🤔

Like the word “often”. Sometimes I say “off-tun” and sometimes “offen”.

TroysMammy · 04/07/2024 06:06

I imagine it depends where you come from. Iit's pronounced as Tewsday but am increasingly hearing it pronounced, mainly on radio, as Chewsday. Same as tooth or tuth.

letsgoooo · 04/07/2024 07:19

@SemperIdem

You pronounce the month July the same as the name Julie?
No. Because the 'lie' in Julie isn't pronounced 'lie' as in a fib. Julie is pronounced Jewleeeee

Overthebow · 03/07/2024 22:45

juh lie. I’m from the south east Home Counties. I’ve never heard Jew lie.

Same here

Quisisana · 04/07/2024 07:23

Depends where it is in the sentence.

MrsMonzo · 04/07/2024 07:26

Lougle · 03/07/2024 22:46

I'm as South as it gets and say Jew-lie.

I'm a Northerner and I pronounce it Juh-lie, I don't know anyone who pronounces it Jew-lie. Maybe we should switch places to prove the theory correct 😁

RipleyGreen · 04/07/2024 07:28

Juh-lie

FriedGold · 04/07/2024 07:29

I think that’s what they meant - they can’t be the same. It’s weird that anyone could pronounce the month of July the same as the name Julie.

AmelieTaylor · 04/07/2024 07:32

Both, depends on the words surrounding it.

CelesteCunningham · 04/07/2024 07:33

Huh.

I say J'lie, but in my head the vowel sound I skip over is an oo rather than an uh. Even though I don't say oo at all.

No this doesn't make any sense.

MrsPositivity1 · 04/07/2024 08:46

Juh-lie
