They're still claiming they were misunderstood and this is all a vendetta. But they're not going to appeal the decision for reasons blah blah blah. Because they know they wouldn't win?

Captain Tom Moore's daughter disqualified from being charity trustee (msn.com)

Most elderly people during lockdown weren't able to go for endless walks because A. They were housebound in fear of COVID and B. They didn't have acres of land attached to a mansion in order to do so.
His daughter seemed like she was playing the whole thing like a fiddle and acting almost as his physical puppetmaster.
They go on a massive all expenses paid holiday when everyone else is still stuck indoors, then he passes away moments later. It would almost seem like she was trying to seek profit from the country's hardship. And how much of the money raised went to the NHS? She was selling tatty bottles of gin and tea towels and stuff and keeping the profits I'll bet.
Horrible cynical woman. Disturbing really.

Those two are total grifters

You only have to look at their faces and body language to see that-Wimbledon was a cringy classic case of what she thinks of herself

Greedy,selfish and grabby grifters

I remember during covid, our next door neighbour rang the police as we didn't appear at our doorway, banging our pans and making loads of noise

They came out!

What she didn't know, was we'd just had a call to say my darling fil had cancer-wed better get to them if we wanted to say our goodbyes (they lived 200 miles away)

As we're running round in a daze, flinging knickers and our toothbrushes into a suitcase,we had to explain to the police why we where refusing to bang-a-pan and scream into the night

Capt tom was about by about that time-i remember the song coming out not long after fil died

I commented to dp that this was getting a bit too much hero worship and to my mil-'the daughter is loving this a bit too much'

She agreed but said that I 'better not say that on your computer' (She meant the internet)

Fast forward, capt tom is dead, and the house of cards falls down

I don't think he was 'in on it' but he knew exactly what his dd is like,he loved the fame,he loved the attention,he loved getting his knighthood, the freebie holiday-he loved it all

I do think he thought the book profits where to be donated to the NHS charities-hes pretty clear about this in the book (that I did buy, second hand on ebay-i think i read about 5 pages and gave up-it was crap and badly written)

She and that husband saw an opportunity and ran with it-its a classic case of greed-they have money, but for that type, its never enough-they saw the profits and wanted in-sod what her father wanted,it was all about 'me,myself and i'

They also made the classic mistake of thinking that Piers Morgan is/was their friend as he'd been their biggest supporter-he turned on them pretty fast

I don't think the other dd is in on it-she seems to keep away from it all-She knows exactly what her sister is,but isn't like that herself

I remember during covid, our next door neighbour rang the police as we didn't appear at our doorway, banging our pans and making loads of noise

They came out!

Fucking hell

Allthehorsesintheworld · 04/07/2024 17:15

So the first of his books was sold under false pretences ?
”The prologue of his autobiography reads: 'Astonishingly at my age, with the offer to write this memoir I have also been given the chance to raise even more money for the charitable foundation now established in my name.'”

Marvelo · 04/07/2024 17:18

A grift from start to finish.

ginasevern · 04/07/2024 17:20

I never trusted any of it including Tom Moore himself and I got sick of the deification of him. When I first saw him I thought he was an old veteran in a care home but after hearing him being interviewed and learning more about his set up something felt off to me. Sorry, but there you go.

MaryMack · 04/07/2024 17:21

I don't think Captain Tom himself was a particularly nice man.
He just captured the heart of the nation for some bizarre reason.
I wonder if Michael Ball regrets singing that ditty with him now?
Everything to do with Captain Tom is tainted.

Personally I think TH should have been kept out of the spot light and allowed as normal a childhood as possible.

I’m so glad to see someone else have this opinion, I thought it was only me.

That all feels a bit exploitative too.

TheHallmarkedMan · 04/07/2024 18:00

I didn't realise he caught Covid from Russ Abbott. What were they thinking? Hauling him over to Barbados?

Not doubting your word but can I double check...your neighbours reported you for non attendance at pan banging and the police came out?
Madness.
Like when is a snack a pic nic and of course in a much more serious vein Sarah Everard. Madness.

whotochoose · 04/07/2024 09:42

The whole thing was ridiculous, gave me the ick right from the start!

That's the word I'm looking for! I think Michael Ball even recorded a song with him didn't he?
Vomit inducing stuff!

Yes, his giant garden looked like a care home, I thought

thenightsky · 04/07/2024 22:27

I too thought it was a care home with large grounds.

Yes
She xame round, banging on our front door, demanding to know why we where not standing on our front door 'with the rest of the street' (all 5 out of about 15 of them)
Dp told her to fuck off-we had more important things to worry about,so she started squawking about the NHS
To which he slammed the door in her face (she had a go at us about anything she didn't agree with us about)
I was running around trying to find enough pants and a suitcase,so didn't really take that much notice-I was more bothered about getting to fil before it was too late
20 or so minutes later,(we where just setting off-bags where in the car,i was just slinging my coat on)there was another knock and it was the police-asking why we hadn't been banging away for the nhs
It was like a bad dream-i remember asking if it was a joke and if it was it wasn't funny
It wasn't set in law that we had to-and I told them this
They left,we set off and thankfully got there in time-we got to say goodbye to him
It made the whole thing worse if I'm honest
Poor Sarah was around that time-im ashamed to say the case floated past me at the time-we where like zombies, just trying to cope with losing him and dealing with lockdown
It's a bit later on that it all came out properly in the news-one of their own did it
They could come out to tell us off for not making a racket but couldn't protect a young woman walking home

Fordian · 04/07/2024 23:30

Not sure about 'Sharon's' story...

OneFrenchEgg · 05/07/2024 00:00

@MidnightPatrol I doubt you're alone I just think it's something I keep to myself and cynically question the motives in my head

AlexTurnersmicrophone · 05/07/2024 09:18

I can believe Sharon's story, my husband was arrested at that time for something equally unbelievable. I think police were bored and kicking their heels.

eggplant16 · 05/07/2024 09:57

The police arrested people for eating sandwiches in a park I think?
